Recent rapid advances in computer hardware performance have led to relatively low computational costs, increasing the number of applications of machine-learning techniques to geophysical problems. In particular, deep-learning techniques are gaining in popularity as the number of cases successfully solving complex and nonlinear problems has gradually increased. In this paper, applications of seismic data denoising methods using deep-learning techniques are introduced and investigated. Depending on the type of attenuated noise, these studies are grouped into denoising applications of coherent noise, random noise, and the combination of these two types of noise. Then, we investigate the deep-learning techniques used to remove the corresponding noise. Unlike conventional methods used to attenuate seismic noise, deep neural networks, a typical deep-learning technique, learn the characteristics of the noise independently and then automatically optimize the parameters. Therefore, such methods are less sensitive to generalized problems than conventional methods and can reduce labor costs. Several studies have also demonstrated that deep-learning techniques perform well in terms of computational cost and denoising performance. Based on the results of the applications covered in this paper, the pros and cons of the deep-learning techniques used to remove seismic noise are analyzed and discussed.
A difficulty encountered in engineering seismic mapping is that reflection events from shallow discontinuities are commonly overlapped with coherent noise such as air wave, direct waves, head waves, and high-amplitude surface waves. Here, the radial trace transform, a simple geometric re-mapping of a trace gather (x-t domain) to another trace gather (v-t domain), is applied to investigate the rejection effect of coherent linear noises. Two different types of data sets were selected as a representative database: good-quality data for intermediate sounding (hundreds of meters) in a sedimentary basin and very noisy data for shallow (${\leq}50m$) mapping of the weathered zone and bedrock surface. Results obtained with cascaded application of the radial transform and low-cut filtering proved to be as good as, or better than, those produced using f-k filtering, and were especially effective for air wave and direct wave. This simple transform enables better understanding of the characteristics of various types of noise in the RT domain, and can be generally applied to overcoming diffractions and back-scatterings caused by joints, fractures, and faults commonly that are encountered in geotechnical problems.

In this paper, background noise reduction method using dual microphone is proposed in mobile environment. Each Signal, reference and primary, would be replaced by microphone input signals, which were measured by reference and primary microphones, and then, noise reduction was performed using FDAF. After then, residual and background noise would be estimated and reduced by MMSE-LSA. For consistent noise reduction performance, result of VAD that could be caculated by PLD between two microphones was used.

This paper presents an appropriate approach for modeling noise in Computed Radiography(CR) images of high strength materials. The approach is specifically designed for types of noise with the statistical and nonlinear properties. CR images Ere degraded even before they are encoded by computer process. Various types of noise often contribute to contaminate radiography image, although they are detected on digitalization. Quantum noise, which is Poisson distributed, is a shot noise, but the photon distribution on Image Plate(IP) of CR system is not always Poisson process. The statistical properties are relative and case-dependant due to its material characteristics. The usual assumption of a distribution of Poisson, binomial and Gaussian statistics are considered. Nonlinear effect is also represented in the process of statistical noise model. It leads to estimate the noise variance in regions from high to low intensity, specifying analytical model. The analysis approach is tested on a database of steel tube step-wedge CR images. The results are available for the comparative parameter studies which measure noise coherence, distribution, signal/noise ratios(SNR) and nonlinear interpolation.

In this paper, we proposed a advanced approach to resolve the trade-off problem for the threshold value determining the photo-consistency in the previous algorithms. The threshold value for the surface voxel is substituted the photo-consistency value of the inside voxel. As iterating the voxel coloring process, the threshold is approached to the optimal value for the individual surface voxel. we present an energy minimization formulation of the binary labeling problem that surface voxels classify into opacity or transparency. The energy formula consists of the data term and the smoothness term. As considering neighboring voxels in the labeling problem, the unevenness of reconstructed surface is reduced. The labeling whose energy is the global minimum can be computed using a graph cut.

In this paper, a new kernelized approach for use in a recommender system (RS) is proposed. Using a machine learning technique, the proposed method predicts the user's preferences for unknown items and recommends items which are likely to be preferred by the user. Since the ratings of the users are generally inconsistent and noisy, a robust binary classifier called a dual margin Lagrangian support vector machine (DMLSVM) is employed to suppress the noise. The proposed method is applied to MovieLens databases, and its effectiveness is demonstrated via simulations.
Painterly animation is a method that expresses painterly images with a hand-painted appearance from a video, and the most crucial element for it is the temporal coherence of brush strokes between frames. A motion map is proposed in this paper as a solution to the issue of maintaining the temporal coherence in the brush strokes between the frames. A motion map is the region that frame-to-frame motions have occurred. Namely, this map refers to the region frame-to-frame edges move by the motion information with the motion occurred edges as a starting point. In this paper, we employ the optical flow method and block-based method to estimate the motion information. The method that yielded the biggest PSNR using the motion information (the directions and magnitudes) acquired by various methods of motion estimation has been chosen as the final motion information to form a motion map. The created motion map determine the part of the frame that should be re-painted. In order to express painterly images with a hand- painted appearance and maintain the temporal coherence of brush strokes, the motion information was applied to only the strong edges that determine the directions of the brush strokes. Also, this paper seek to reduce the flickering phenomenon between the frames by using the multiple exposure method and the difference map created by the difference between images of the source and the canvas. Maintenance of the coherence in the direction of the brush strokes was also attempted by a local gradient interpolation to maintain the structural coherence.

We develope plasma monitoring system which detect plasma signals and store them for Laser welding quality evaluation and analysis using photo detector. The most fundamental and important aspects in such a system are signal restoration fidelity, noise immunity and noise cancelation capability. In this paper, we propose implementation method using distribute processing structure and hybrid digital communication for high noise cancelation capability, immunity and signal fidelity which are poorly presented in other researches. Lab experimental results and welding experimental results show a effectiveness of proposed method and plasma data is stored with 256 kbps without any communication error. we are implementing various welding defect recognition algorithm in this system.

This study examined the relative retrieval effectiveness after relevance feedback between two systems (Title/Abstract and Full-text) using four different sets of relevance judgment. Four relevance levels (not relevant, marginally relevant, relevant, highly relevant) are also used, each of which is determined by referees giving a relevance score to documents. This study also investigated how much the average precision was improved after relevance feedback when "marginally relevant" documents are included in the relevant class with the Title/Abstract system, and with the Full-text retrieval system as well. It is found that the Title/Abstract system benefited from relevance feedback with the marginally relevant documents. In case of the Title/Abstract system, the higher percentage of improvement was consistently obtained when including the marginally relevant documents in the relevance class, however the result was vice versa in case of the Full-text retrieval system. It implied that the marginally relevant documents in the relevant class had caused noises in the Full-text retrieval system.
