The Automatic Processing of Emotion (정서의 자동처리기제)

  • This literature review explores the possibilities for the automatic processing to account for the people's responses to emotional stimuli. The most fundamental question is if some parts of emotions are experienced without any intrusion of cognitions. In other words. can emotions be processed completely implicitly$\ulcorner$ Some studies advocate emotion related processes are much more immediate and primary than semantic processes. The phenomena to catch up the emotive values of stimuli even subliminally suggest that the implicit knowledge structure takes charge of this automatic processes of emotional information. This study summarizes the explanatory scheme of emotional processing by means of applying implicit memory principle and physiological evidences related to e emotional memories.

  • 목적: 인간은 시각적 자극에 뇌가 반응함으로써 대상을 파악한다. 그리고 대상의 종류에 따라 뇌가 시각적인 정보를 판단하는 영역은 서로 다를 수 있다는 것을 예상할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 시각적 자극의 대상을 크게 인간의 안면과 사물로 나누고 그 대상에 따라 인지하는 뇌의 영역을 확인하고자 한다.

The Relative Role of Prior Knowledge and Involvement on Cognitive-Affective Advertising Evaluation (인지-감성소구의 광고평가에 대한 사전지식과 관여도의 상대적 역할)

  • 본 연구는 소비자들의 광고평가과정을 정보처리능력의 관점인 사전지식과 정보처리동기의 관점인 관여도의 조절적 역할을 고려하여 검토하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 인지자극과 감정자극이 동시에 제공된 광고에 대하여 소비자들의 인지적, 감정적, 행동의욕적 평가관계를 구조적으로 살펴보고, 이를 바탕으로 각 구조적 관계들을 사전지식수준과 관여도수준에 따라 그 상대적 역할들을 살펴보았다. 실증분석결과 본 연구는 기존의 DMH 모델을 지지하는 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 광고에 대한 감정적 평가(Aad)에서 상표에 대한 인지적 평가(Cb)통해 상표에 대한 감정적 평가(Ab)에 미치는 영향력의 정도는 관여도보다는 사전지식이 더 큰 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 광고에 대한 감정적 평가(Aad)에서 상표에 대한 감정적 평가(Ab) 그리고 상표에 대한 감정적 평가(Ab)에서 상표에 대한 행동의욕적 평가(Ib)로의 영향력은 관여도가 중요 조절변수임을 확인하였다.

  • Patients with schizophrenia have thinking disorders such as delusion or hallucination, because they have a deficit in the ability which to systematize and integrate information. therefore, they cannot integrate or systematize visual, auditory and tactile stimuli. In this study, we suggest a virtual reality system for the assessment of cognitive ability of schizophrenia patients, based on the brain multimodal integration model. The virtual reality system provides multimodal stimuli, such as visual and auditory stimuli, to the patient, and can evaluate the patient's multimodal integration and working memory integration abilities by making the patient interpret and react to multimodal stimuli, which must be remembered for a given period of time. the clinical study showed that the virtual reality program developed is comparable to those of the WCST and the SPM.

The Effect of Multi-Sensory Stimulation Training on Cognitive Function and Balance Skill of the Community Resident Elderly (다감각 자극훈련이 노인의 인지기능 및 균형능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of multi-sensory stimulation training on cognitive function and balance skill of the community resident elderly. Methods : 10 participants who is over aged 65 years carry out multisensory stimulation training program for 12weeks, once a week for 60minutes. The multisensory stimulation training program is consisted of total 12 topic based on body schema, gross muscle and tactile stimulation. The result was measured using Mini-Mental State Examination-Korean and Berg Balance Scale to evaluate before and after of cognitive function and balance skill. And after intervention, the satisfaction of the program was investigated. Wilcoxon matched-pair signed rank test was used to compare pre- post difference of cognitive function and balance skill. Results : There was significant difference in cognitive function and balance skill(p<.05) and the satisfaction is positive at the end of the program. Conclusion : The multisensory stimulation training program has positive effects on cognitive function and balance skill for elderly. And the satisfaction is positive at the end of the program. The multisensory stimulation training program can enhance the satisfaction to elderly in the aging society. So, additional studies is needed for efficient use.

Investigating Cognitive Process and Brain Activation Study on the Rational/Emotional Advertising Appeals: Emphasis on fMRI Experiments (이성적 자극과 감성적 자극에 따른 인지처리 기능 및 재인효과 차이에 관한 연구: fMRI 분석을 중심으로)

  • This research investigated that participants' response time and recognition in the decision-making situation would vary according to either rational or emotional stimuli and analyzed how brain functions are related to each type of stimuli by means of fMRI. We tried to address the difference of cognitive processing between rational stimuli and emotional stimuli in the perspective of information processing theory. In order to achieve the research purpose above, we conducted two kinds of experiment studies. In study 1, subjects conducted decision-making task which selected which kind of information type the stimuli was after stimuli - rational stimuli or emotional stimuli - was randomly seen during experiment. During this experiment, we investigated the effect of each stimuli by measuring the duration from the onset time at which stimuli was shown to the response time at which subjects conducted decision-making. Furthermore, we compared the brain functions by finding out what kinds of brain areas were activated during the decision-making task. In study 2, subjects conducted recognition task at which subjects made a decision whether the stimuli was sees in the previous experiment or not. During the second experiment, we investigated the recognition effect by measuring the memory for each stimuli type. Moreover, we compared the cognitive processes during recognition by analyzing the differences of brain area functions. The results of two experiments above were as following. Firstly, regarding the response time as the effect of stimuli, we found that the effect of emotional stimuli was higher than that of rational stimuli. And regarding the recognition as the effect of stimuli, it was found that the effect of rational stimuli was higher than that of emotional stimuli. Secondly, the explanation about the characteristics of cognitive processes with the result of behavioral response by analyzing brain functions was as following. First of all, regarding the decision-making task which conducted for analyzing the effect of response time, the relatively high activated brain areas of rational stimuli were related with the functions of movement control or working memory, and the relatively high activated brain areas of emotional stimuli were connected with the functions of lingual processing.

  • The perceived position of a flashing target object is generally biased towards the direction of eye movement when there is no reference around the target. Current research examined the localization accuracy of a flashing target relative to a static reference. The perceived location of the target relative to the reference was distorted and the pattern of perceptual distortion systematically depended on the position of the reference relative to the target. This kind of result was consistently observed regardless of the distance between the reference and the target and direction of pursuit eye movement. We have discussed how these results could he explained by the theories previously suggested to explain the localization of objects.

Video Coding Method Using Visual Perception Model based on Motion Analysis (움직임 분석 기반의 시각인지 모델을 이용한 비디오 코딩 방법)

  • We develop a video processing method that allows the more advanced human perception oriented video coding. The proposed method necessarily reflects all influences by the rate-distortion based optimization and the human visual perception that is affected by the visual saliency, the limited space-time resolution and the regional moving history. For reflecting the human perceptual effects, we devise an online moving pattern classifier using the Hedge algorithm. Then, we embed the existing visual saliency into the proposed moving patterns so as to establish a human visual perception model. In order to realize the proposed human visual perception model, we extend the conventional foveation filtering method. Compared to the conventional foveation filter only smoothing less stimulus video signals, the developed foveation filter can locally smooth and enhance signals according to the human visual perception without causing any artifacts. Due to signal enhancement, the developed foveation filter more efficiently transfers the bandwidth saved at smoothed signals to the enhanced signals. Performance evaluation verifies that the proposed video processing method satisfies the overall video quality, while improving the perceptual quality by 12%~44%.

Effects of Congruence and SOA of distractors on target detection in Normal Children and ADHD Children (정상아와 ADHD 아동에서 방해자극의 일치도와 SOA가 목표자극 탐지에 미치는 영향)

  • ADHD 아동의 주의장애 원인이 반응 결정에서의 억제의 미숙인지, 전반적인 주의 기능의 미숙인지 알아보기 정상아동과 ADHD 아동을 대상으로 flanker 과제를 실시하였다. 실험 1 에서는 방해자극과 목표자극의 일치 (3: 일치, 불일치, 중립), 방해자극과 목표자극의 SO (3: -100, 0, 100 ms), 집단 (2; 정상, ADHD)의 3 요인 실험을 실시하였다. 정상아와 ADHD 아동간에 반응시간에서는 차이가 없었다. 그러나 정상아동에 비해 ADHD 아동이 부정확 반응을 더 많이 하였다. 특히 방해자극이 100 ms 먼저 제시되기 시작하는 SOA -100 ms 조건에서 두 집단의 차이가 크게 나타났다. 이 결과가 반응결정 단계에서의 억제에서 비롯되는 것인지 알아보기 위해 실험 2 에서는 목표자극의 반응 set(좌, 우)에 포함되지 않는 방해자극(상, 하로향함)을 제시하는 무관련조건을 추가하여 실험을 실시하였다. 실험 1 과 같이 불일치조건에서는 정상아동에 비해 ADHD 아동이 오반응을 더 많이 산출하였다. 그러나 무관련조건에서는 정상아와 ADHD 아동 간에 오반응에서 차이가 없었다. 즉 두 집단 모두에서 중립조건보다 무관련 조건에서 반응시간은 길었으나, 오반응에서는 차이가 없었다. 즉 정상아와 ADHD 아동 모두 전반적인 주의에서는 차이가 없다는 것을 시사하였다. 두 실험의 결과는 정상아에 비해 ADHD 아동이 반응 결정 단계에서의 억제에서 차이가 나는 것을 시사하는 것으로 해석되었다.

The Effect of task-irrelevant affective priming on belief-bias (과제 무관련 정서 점화가 신념편향에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the current study is to investigate how task-irrelevant affective priming affects higher cognitive function. In the study, we selected prime stimuli from International Affective Picture System(IAPS) and examined if they influence participants' performance of syllogistic reasoning task when they are task-irrelevant. In Experiment 1, arousal of IAPS stimuli was controlled while valence of the stimuli was manipulated. In Experiment 2, valence of IAPS stimuli was controlled while arousal of stimuli was manipulated. In both experiments, task-irrelevant affective primes were followed by syllogistic reasoning tasks consisting of three sentences and measured accuracies of task performance. The results showed that valence of affective prime affected logical validity of reasoning and belief-bias whereas arousal of affective primes did not yield any difference. That is, positive valence facilitated logical and analytic processing by reducing belief-bias while arousal did not affect reasoning task performance. These results suggest that dimensions of valence and arousal independently influence higher cognitive function.
