  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of digitized elastomeric impression materials of crown abutment, using non-contact white light scanner and virtual three-dimensional superimpositional analysis. The stone models and impressions were digitized white light scanner to create three-dimensional surface models. Stone models were used as CAD reference model (CRM). The resulting point clouds (ASC file) from digitization of impressions using converting software. Discrepancies between the points in the point clouds and CRM were measured by superimpositional software. Mean and standard deviation of values of discrepancies were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and multiple comparison (${\alpha}=0.05$). The mean discrepancy between the impressions for the extra-light body (XLB), light body (LB), and heavy body (HB) group were $5.10{\pm}1.45{\mu}m$, $6.30{\pm}1.87{\mu}m$, $9.80{\pm}1.52{\mu}m$, respectively. The different impression materials affected the digitization of impressions significantly (p<0.05). As a result, digitization of elastomeric impression materials on dental scanner was influenced by material sort.

  • This study evaluated the properties of polyvinylsiloxane impression materials: Strain-in-compression, Elastic recovery, Consistency, and Wettability. Four polyvinylsiloxane impression materials(Examixfine, GC, Japan; Aquasilultra, Dentsply, USA; Extrude, Kerr, USA; Perfect-F, Handae, Korea) were used in this study. The measured data were analyzed with SPSSWIN 12.0 program. The results were as follows : 1. The strain-in-compression values showed that Extrude had the lowest value, 4.86% and Examixfine had the highest value, 6.78%. Significant difference between Examixfine and Perfect-F was not found but the other groups had significant differences(p = 0.000). 2. In the elastic recovery test, Extrude had the highest, 99.83% and Perfect-F had the lowest, 96.54%. There is no significant difference between Examixfine and Aquasilultra. The other impression material groups showed significant differences(p = 0.000). 3. The measurement of consistency results that the diameter of Examixfine was the largest, 45.12mm and one of Perfect-F was the smallest, 40.28 mm. No differences were shown between Examixfine and Aquasilultra and between Extrude and Perfect-F(p = 0.001). 4. Aquasilultra had a better hydrophilicity($47.85^{\circ}$) than other materials. Perfect-F had a larger contact angle($94.89^{\circ}$) and was hydrophobic. There were significant differences between groups(p = 0.000). 5. As for correlation among the test types, contact angle correlated with strain-in-compression, elstic recovery and consistency. The strain-in-compression had correlation to contact angle and elastic recovery. The elastic recovery correlated with contact angle and strain-in-compression. And the consistency had correlation to contact angle.

  • The stone statues in the site of Mireuksaji Temple(Iksan, South Korea) were created after the stone pagoda was built in 639. They, transitional statues between animal sculptures and human shaped statues made from the late Goryeo dynasty until the early Joseon dynasty, were set up at the four corners of the stone pagoda by way of guardians. In the case of three statues, their surfaces were denudated and their iconographies have been indiscernible. However, the one in the southwest clearly shows its iconography. It is inferior in properties to the other three statues in the northwest, the northeast and the southeast respectively, but on the other hand its iconography has been well maintained. The reason is related to exposure to harmful environments; specifically, the retaining wall, built around the stone pagoda in the 17th century, had the southwest statue inside and could naturally worked as a buffer against harmful environments. As a result, for about 400 years there has been difference in weathering conditions between the three stone statues and the southwest statue, which brought denudation, the consequent indiscernibleness of iconography and biological invasion to the three statues, notwithstanding superior properties(northwest statue:$176kgf/cm^2$, northeast statue:$109kgf/cm^2$, southeast statue:$273kgf/cm^2$). In contrast, the southwest statue significantly shows its iconography with black contaminants and granule decomposition, despite inferior properties($133kgf/cm^2$). Defenseless exposure to external environment is not recommended for the stone statues, because it is hard to preserve the extant iconography. Herein lies the application of the data on microclimate around Mireuksaji Temple. As regards the weathering zone in which the stone statues are located, Conservation increases in acidity and frequency as years go by, Hereat, in the approach to the Conservation of stone statues, the first consideration needs to be morphological historicity rather than geographical location.
