Using two japonica rice cultivars (Ilpumbyeo and Sanghaehyanghyella), which are distinguishable by the brown planthopper (BHP) resistance maker (R208), a relationship between the BPH resistance gene (Os-Bil) and salt-tolerance was investigated. To do this, changes in the expression level of Os-Bil by the salt stress were quantified by the real-time PCR in the two cultivars, and compared with those in other two indica rice cultivars (Pokkali and IR29). In Ilpumbyeo, the expression level of Os-Bil decreased by the treatments of 50 and 200 mM NaCl in a concentration-dependent manner, and in Sanghaehyanghyella it rather increased slightly at 50 mM but decreased drastically at 200 mM. Comparably, IR29, a salt-sensitive cultivar, showed a reduction of the Os-Bil gene expression after the treatment of 100 mM NaCl, but Pokkali, a salt-tolerance cultivar, rather increased about two times in the level of Os-Bil transcripts. These results suggest that the BPH resistance gene may involve in the difference in the salt-tolerance at least between the two indica rice cultivars.
This study was conducted to investigate change of seed dormancy during storage in rice. The result of germination rate observed at different storage duration after harvest indicated that two Japonica rice varieties, Sangpungbyeo and Hwaseongbyeo, tow sare type local varieties, Jakwangdo and Mongeunsare, and a Tongil type rice, Samgangbyeo, showed no dormancy in rice seed harvested at 40 days after heading, However, weak dormancy was found in matured rice seed of Sobaekbyeo and Odaebyeo, and strong seed dormancy was found in Jungwonbyeo, IR-20 and IR-42. Rice seed stored for 30 days after harvest at 2$0^{\circ}C$ constant temperature or 25/15$^{\circ}C$ of day /night temperature fluctuation showed higher germination rate above 90% in all varieties tested. But germination rate of seeds stored at 4$^{\circ}C$ for 30 to 180 days showed varietal difference, higher in rice varieties having weak seed dormancy and lower in strong dormancy varieties. Days to 80% germination and average days for germination were shortened by storage for 30 to 180 days after harvest at 2$0^{\circ}C$, 4$^{\circ}C$ with RH 40% or day /night 25/15$^{\circ}C$ temperature condition in all rice varieties tested, but the degree of acceleration was lower at the condition of 4$^{\circ}C$ with RH 40%.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has permitted the use of Lime Kiln Dust (LKD) as a low-cost construction material in creating a workable platform for soil modification (not for soil stabilization) since the early 1990s on selected projects. However, the enhanced strength of soils with LKD has not been accounted for in the subgrade stability calculations in the design process. This study was initiated to evaluate how the lime kiln dust is a comparable material to hydrated lime. A series of laboratory tests were performed to assess the mechanical benefits of lime kiln dust in combination with various predominant fine grained soils encountered in the State of Indiana, such as A-4, A-6 and A-7-6. In the course of this study, several tests such as the Atterberg limits, standard Proctor, unconfined compression, CBR, volume stability, and resilient modulus were performed. As a result, mixtures of fine grained soils with 5% lime or 5% LKD substantially improve unconfined compressive strength up to 60% - 400%. CBR values for treated soils are in the range of 25 to 70 while those for untreated soils range from 3 to 18. In general, significant increase in resilient moduli of the soils treated with lime and LKD was observed. This indicates that lime kiln dust may be a viable, cost effective alternative to hydrated lime in enhancing the strength of fine grained soils.
Genetically modified (GM) crops have been developed worldwide through the recombinant DNA technology and commercialized by global agricultural companies. Until now, GM crops have not been cultivated commercially in Korea. Commercialization of GM crops requires a compulsory assessment of environmental risk associated with the release of GM crops. This study was conducted to evaluate the frequency of pollen mediated gene flow from Bt transgenic rice (Agb0101) to japonica non-GM rice (Nakdongbyeo), indica non-GM rice (IR36), and weedy rice (R55). A total of 729,917, 596,318 and 230,635 seeds were collected from Nakdongbyeo, IR36, and R55, respectively, which were planted around Agb0101. Selection of the hybrids was determined by repeated spraying of herbicide and Cry1Ac1 immunostrip assay. Finally, the hybrids were confirmed by PCR analysis using specific primer. The hybrids were found in all non-GM rice and out-crossing ranged from 0.0005% at IR36 to 0.0027% at Nakdongbyeo. All of hybrids were located within 1.2 m distance from the Agb0101 rice plot. The meteorological elements including rainfall and temperature during rice flowering time were found to be important factors to determine rice out-crossing rate. Consideration should be taken for many factors like the meteorological elements of field and physiological condition of crop to set up the safety management guideline to prevention of GM crops gene flow.

The composition of crops reveal natural variation according to genetic characteristics and environmental factors such as the cultivated regions. For comparative investigation of the impact of genetic difference and environmental influence on the levels of bioactive components in rice seeds, 23 cultivars including indica, japonica, and tongil rice were grown in two location in Korea (Jeonju and Cheonan) for two years (2015 and 2016). Sixteen compounds consisting of tocopherols, tocotrienols, phytosterols, and policosanols were identified from 368 rice samples and the compositional data were subjected to data mining processes including principal component analysis and Pearson's correlation analysis. Under 4 different environmental conditions (Jeonju in 2015, Cheonan in 2015, Jeonju in 2016, Cheonan in 2016), the natural variability of rice seeds showed that the genetic background (indica vs japonica vs tongil) had more impact on the compositional changes of bioactive components compared to the environments. Especially, the results of correlation analysis revealed negative correlation between α-, β-tocopherols and γ-, δ-tocopherols as a representative genetic effect that did not changed by the environmental influence.

As software developing paradigm has been changing to complicate Web environment, study of complexity becomes vigorous. Yet still it seems that general agreement has not to be reached to architecture or complexity measure of Web application. And so traditional complexity metrics - program size(LOC) and Cyclomatic Complexity can be derived from the source code after implementation. it is not helpful to the early phase of software development life cycle - analysis and design phase. In this study 6 Web projects has been used for deriving applications with possible errors suited by Complexity Indicator. Using 61 programs derived, linear correlation between complexity, number of classes and number of methods has been proposed. As Web application complexity could be estimated before implementation, effort and cost management will be processed more effectively.

This study is to establish the dwelling principle and architectural characteristics of Powhatan Indian Community in Eastern part of North America. To find a pattern and dwelling principle of town building and housing, I have researched both site survey of Powhatan at Jamestown Settlement in Virginia and a related references of North America Indian. In addition of study, I have tried to understand their life style in 17C, a spatial characteristics of space composition, and a using materials of Yehakin which means Powhatan's house in the exhibition hall of Jamestown Settlement. The results of this paper are as follows: First, the form of Powhatan house is like a longhouse which has two types that are oblong and rectangular house. Usually they had lived in the style of oblong house. Second, there are three patterns to set up the semi-permanent settlement of Powhatan, which are circle-type, street-type, and free-type of village. Third, the fire place of interior space that is most importance element to heat and cook is put it into the center of room, and the other beds and shelves are arranged by the side of wall which is covered of rush matt.

Blue jeans are finished with stonewashing process to give it optimal softness and color contrast of blue and white. So, Yellowing may well be generated during storage or use and thereby, their appearance may be damaged much. So, this study was aimed at finding the solutions to reduce the yellowing problem caused by residual metals after stonewshing. To this end, sample blue jeans were made to be finished with various methods of wet-treatment and then, be subject to daylight to check their photoyellowing. The results of this test can be summarized as follows; Since the stonewashing process was found to affect the yellowing, the residual metals of stone- washed blue jeans was analyzed. And it was found that it contained such residual metal as Al, Ca, Cu, Ti, Si, K and Zn. In particular, it was conceived that Al was a prime cause affecting the yellowing. Meanwhile, when the blue jeans were treated by the metal ionchelating agent of EDTA-2Na, the residual levels of Al and Ti were reduced by about 50%, while the photoyellolving was lowered by 75%, which is suggesed that EDTA is very effective in preventing the yellowing. On the other hand, when the blue jeans were bleached by the hypochlorite, chlorine remained in blue jean accelerated the yellowing. However, when this blue jean was treated again by the sodium thiosulfate for its dechloridization, the residual of chlorine was reduced, and the yellowing was lowered by about 43%.
Baker's yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae) was used as a biocatalyst for eco-friendly indigo dyeing and the reducing power of yeast according to the alkaline solution type was compared. NaOH solution, lye, and buffer solution were used as alkaline solutions. The reducing power(K/S value, oxidation/reduction potential(ORP), pH) was monitored according to the elapsed time including the initiation of reduction, peak reduction, and the end of reduction. In all alkaline solutions, it was confirmed that yeast can be used reducing agent in indigo reduction dyeing. The pH stability and reducing power of buffer solution was better than that of NaOH alone. Although, pH and ORP stability of the reduction bath in lye were better than that of buffer solution, K/S value in buffer solution was higher compared to lye. The reducing power was different depending on the starting pH of the dye bath, and it was better when starting at pH 10.70 than at pH 11.30. Fastnesses to washing, rubbing, and light were relatively good with above rating 4. There was no significant difference in colorfastness depending on the type of alkaline solutions.
