  • The expansion of volatility in Korean Stock Market made it more difficult for the individual to invest directly and increased the weight of indirect investment through a fund. The purpose of this study is to construct the EIF(enhanced index fund) model achieves an excessive return among several types of fund. For this purpose, this paper propose portfolio optimization model to manage an index fund by using GA(genetic algorithm), and apply the trading amount and the closing price of standard index to earn an excessive return add to index fund return. The result of the empirical analysis of this study suggested that the proposed model is well represented the trend of KOSPI 200 and the new investment strategies using this can make higher returns than Buy-and-Hold strategy by an index fund, if an appropriate number of stocks included.

  • This study examines the relation between mutual fund performance and fund flows in Korean market using weekly and monthly data. The results are as follows. First, the relation between the two variables varies across fund types. Even the relations in equity fund and index fund are different from each other. Second, the structural change in the mutual fund market affect significantly the relation between the two variables. Third, return chasing flow is observed constantly in bond fund and it is observed only after the structural change for equity fund and MMF. However, no return chasing flow is observed for index fund. Fourth, mutual fund flows affect subsequent fund returns only in MMF after the structural change.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the Korean ETF market, which is experiencing a rapid increase in the number of stocks, to identify the degree of investment efficiency and to present investment directions. The methodology and procedure are ETF yield, change trends, correlation and regression analysis of the ETFs traded between 2010 and 2018. As a result, the total return of domestic ETFs was 3.51%, which was lower than the KOSPI growth rate and the return on equity ETFs was 4.03%, which was low. Leverage ETF yields were below 3%, which was low. The return on bond and currency ETFs was less than 1%. The most profitable ETFs were index ETFs, followed by domestic and leveraged ETFs. This study has contributed to establishing considerations when purchasing ETFs from the viewpoint of investors. Future research will present the direction of ETF investment more precisely.

  • An index fund is a collective investment scheme that aims to replicate the movements of an index of a specific financial market regardless of market conditions. An index fund is a popular investment alternative because it is much cheaper to run than an active fund and it performs better than actively managed funds. This paper illustrates the usefulness of wavelet analysis in constructing an index fund. The wavelet analysis can decompose the time series data in frequency domain as well as in time domain. The major findings of this paper are as follows. First, the beta coefficient that represents the systematic risk has the scale dependent property. This result can provide important information to the investors with various investment time frequency. Investors can use the betas corresponding to their investment frequencies among the various scale betas estimated by wavelet analysis. Second, we can find the usefulness of wavelet analysis in constructing index fund because the wavelet technique gives less tracking error(difference between the index performance and the index fund performance) than the traditional constructing techniques. The result of this study implies that the wavelet techniques can be an important analytic method to the other financial markets such as option market, futures market, bond markets and currency market.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the ETF market, which has a large increase in the number of listed shares and the market capitalization, and to identify the investment effects of ETFs. The study procedure and method used to calculate the return and change trend of ETFs for the sample of the transaction information, the transaction amount, and the market capitalization for the period from 2010 to 2018, and performed correlation and regression analysis. As a result, the ETF's total return was 2.11%, the domestic underwriting market ETF yield was 2.39%, and the stock ETF yield was 2.59%, which was lower than the KOSPI 200 index and the KOSPI 200 index. Index ETF was 2.63%, followed by stock ETF and oversea underwriting market ETF. The problem with ETF investment is that the annual return of ETFs and domestic ETFs is as low as 2%, which is not enough for investors to expect more than 5%. The study contributes to the realization of the ETF by analyzing the actual effect of the investment and to establishing considerations when buying ETFs from the viewpoint of investors. The direction of the research is to accumulate more ETF data and present the investment direction precisely.
