Three floating islands were constructed on the surface of the reservoir, each consisting of 10 16-㎡ (4${\times}$4 m) segments, made of wood frames and floats. Three species of aquatic macrophytes were planted in each island on June, 1998. Phragmites australis was considered as the suitable aquatic macrophyte for the floating islands since it maintained the most efficient root and shoot balance among the macrophytes. The net primary productivity of P. Australis was 3,604 g/㎡ based on dry weight in 1999, with uptake rates of nitrogen and phosphorus estimated at 77.4 g/㎡/yr and 5.7 g/㎡/yr, respectively. The result of water quality simulation for the floating islands showed that, through adsorption of nutrients and light screening, they could reduce the amount of phytoplankton, thereby decreasing COD concentration.

Three floating islands have been constructed for water quality improvement for a polluted irrigation reservoir. Phragmites australis was considered as the suitable aquatic macrophyte of the floating island. From April to August in 1999, the net primary productivity of Phragmites australis was 3,530gDM/㎡. Uptake rates of nitrogen and phoshorous by Phragmites australis planted in the floating island could be estimated to 10.2kg/d/ha and 0.8kg/d/ha, respectively. The floating islands worked well as a habitat of fish and prawns. Therefore, the floating islands could be evaluated a good measure ofwater quality improvement for irrigation reservoir.
The fish and attached fish eggs by artificial floating island in lake Soyang was investigation from May to June 2013. The observed fish at the floating island during the survey period were Zacco platypus (5.2 %), Siniperca scherzeri (1.0 %), Lepomis macrochirus (90.8 %) and Micropterus salmoides (3.0 %) at the Cheongpyeong-ri, Cyprinus carpio (0.4 %), Z. platypus (54.6 %), L. macrochirus (20.3 %) and M. salmoides (24.7 %) at the Ungjin-ri. The collected species at the neighboring facility were 22 species belonging the seven families. Among them, exotic species such as Carassius cuvieri, L. macrochirus and M. salmoides. Also, Z. platypus (30.4 %), L. macrochirus (18.9 %), Opsariichthys uncirostris amurensis (15.4 %) and Hemibarbus labeo (9.3 %) were numberous. Attached fish eggs number were 708,800 (800 per $m^2$) at the Cheongpyeong-ri and 974,500 (1,100 per $m^2$) at the Ungjin-ri. The fish eggs number were 504,920 of the Carassius auratus (212,640 at the Cheongpyeong-ri, 292,280 at the Ungjin-ri) and 1,178,380 of the C. carpio (496,160 at the Cheongpyeong-ri, 682,220 at the Ungjin-ri). The hatched eggs number were 350,505 of the C. auratus(102,067 at the Cheongpyeong-ri, 248,438 at the Ungjin-ri) and 811,222 of the C. carpio (238,157 at the Cheongpyeong-ri, 573,065 at the Ungjin-ri).

Bottom-up approaches to control of Microcystis aeruginosa blooms were comparatively investigated through an in situ mesocosm experiment using aquatic plants (Iris pseudoacorus). In the mesocosm experiments, floating I. pseudoacorus, seemed to be effective in controlling massive M. aeruginosa blooms in an agricultural reservoir, exhibiting a close coupling with temporal variations in Chl-a and DO concentration. Shading by floating I. pseudoacorus resulted in a reduced phytoplankton abundance inhibiting light energy availability. Moreover, I. pseudoacorus may suppress phytoplankton growth through the excretion of chemical substances, likes a allelopathy, that inhibit phytoplankton photosynthetic activity. The $^{15}N$ atom % of I. pseudoacorus showed higher values than POM, suggesting that I. pseudoacorus assimilates DIN predominantly compared to phytoplankton, which was mostly M. aeruginosa. This result strongly suggests that the M. aeruginosa bloom should be regulated by aquatic plants, like I. pseudoacorus, this approach can affect zooplankton composition. This is the first study that has used stable isotope tracers to evaluate the biomanipulation efficiency through floating I. pseudoacorus.
This study for the development of water purification Artificial floating island maximizing domestic Artificial floating island patent trends and product development, according to the timing of patent registration was analyzed for trends. In addition, domestic invention patent technology Artificial floating island typed according to the purpose and characteristics of domestic patents were Artificial Floating Island. In particular, domestic leisure space with a growing population and the need for securing emerging role as a reservoir of water only in the past, who do appeal as a tourist destination or as an ecological space utilized, and accordingly will transform and the need to secure a hydrophilic, degrade water quality problems using this aquatic environment (water acquisition and hydrophilic), the requirements are a big obstacle is the reality factor. This patented product differentiation strategy through the analysis of the development of technology progressiveness (Field Application) in terms of water quality improvement and maintenance side, and the hydrophilic side scenery, ecological restoration aspects, and applicability to the field and taking into account existing technology economic aspects of distinction were presented and advertised a lot in terms of cost compared to other techniques without the use of highly efficient methodology for building a water purification and also appears identity appeal, wetlands, rivers, etc. can be applied broadly technician widespread deployment and installation time to less simple and more are expected to spread.
To improve water quality for agricultural use, it is needed to introduce the natural and low-cost self-purification system. It is also necessary to develop the water purification facilities for more efficient and convenient design, construction, operation and management. This study aims to develop the practical facilities to improve water quality for agricultural use. The practical detention pond system, which uses artificial floating island and shield skirts with bio-media, enhanced removal efficiencies of SS, TN and TP more particularly than the detention pond using an auxiliary dam. The removal efficiencies SS, TN and TP for the practical detention pond were 55.7%, 61.0% and 55.9%, respectively. The facilities of the practical detention pond has a lot of disadvantages such as the low-cost and high efficiency as well as uncountable impacts regarding ecology and landscape. However, an auxiliary dam is recommended to be installed in shallow depth due to low efficiency.
We installed mesocosms including zooplankton, fishs, artificial marshy land and aquatic macrophytes in Kyoungan stream to study the reduction effects of algae from Sep. 16 to Oct. 28, 2011. The control tendency of phytoplankton taxa was compared by analyzing community structure and dominant species in each mesocosm. Under the condition where Bluegill was absent, Daphnia similoides showed good effect of algal control since it has large food area and has high grazing pressure. Bluegill selectively preys upon large zooplankton, Daphnia similoides, as it also preys on small zooplanktons that flow in. In condition that Bluegill was absent, Daphnia similoides preyed selectively large phytoplankton (Cryptomonas ovata). Due to the shading of light, removal of nutrients and providing refuge for small zooplanktons, aquatic macrophytes and artificial marshy land showed high level of algal control. In corrals with aquatic macrophytes and artificial marshy land, the dominancy of genus Coelastrum and Pediastrum, which are difficult for small zooplanktons to feed on, relatively increased. In conclusion, under conditions of small number of predators such as Bluegill, Daphnia similoides is thought to be useful in algal bloom; however, when lots of predators are present, using small sized zooplanktons along with artificial marshy land and aquatic macrophytes is thought to be more useful than using large zooplanktons.

Water-Birds are the birds that occupy the highest proportion in Korea, inland wetlands and reservoirs provide them with a good environment as habitat, but their habitats have been losing because of thoughtless development. Therefore, artificial plant islands in reservoirs are important for improving habitat environment and providing food resources. However, there are no research and standards on the built and management of artificial plant islands. So this study is to find out the density of bird using artificial plant island as habitat through monitoring using UAV focus on the Cheonho-reservoirs located in Seobuk-gu, Cheonan-si(Middle Chungcheong Province). Further, the correlation analysis with environmental factors was conducted to determine the effect of artificial plant islands as habitats for water-birds. The supervised classification of the three-time images taken by the drone identified 244 white-billed ducks and 46 mandarin ducks. The utilization rate was different for each photographed date, and more individuals were identified in wet artificial plant islands than dry ones. As a result of analyzing the utilization follow environmental factors, the distance from the trail showed a significant correlation, and the other factors did not have a statistically significant effect. This study is the first case of the UAV monitoring method of the water-birds using artificial plant islands in the reservoir, and can be used as the basic data for the built and management.
Media (bio-stone), aquatic macrophytes (Oenanthe javanica) and herbivorous cladoceran (Daphnia similoides) have been used in artificial floating island (AFI) systems for water pollution control. Efficiency in chl-a concentration controlling of AFI was tested using different combinations of each device: G-BD-mixture bio-stone and Daphnia similoides, G-OB-mixture Oenanthe javanica and bio-stone, G-BOD-mixture bio-stone, Oenanthe javanica and Daphnia similoides, and the out-put water quality improvement was compared with G-C-control (no device was applied). We analyzed removal efficiency of chl-a concentration and nutrient concentrations in the artificially eutrophic water in the laboratory experimental facility. The results showed average removal rates of Chlorophyll a, TN and TP for different four groups: 69.24%, 16.61%, -0.61%; 68.39%, 14.11%, 10.52%; 78.30%, 6.69%, 25.09%; 35.42%, -3.47%, -25.18%, respectively. The results have suggested that the mixture of media, plants and zooplankton is the most efficient combination for Chlorophyll a control, while the mixture of macrophytes and bio-stone have better efficiency nutrient control.
