Objectives : The purpose of this study is to identify the clinical effects of auricular acupuncture in the treatment of dysmenorrhea. Methods : Auricular acupuncture treatments were prescribed to 29 dysmenorrhea patients 1 time a week for 13 weeks. Results : After the treatment, numerical index for the pain was obviously reduced 'tot' point 2.61. It means that pain index as the patient has difficulty in daily life was reduced to 2 grades enough to do ordinary experience. Conclusions : This study shows that auricular acupuncture treatment has remarkable effects on dysmenorrhea.

From September 1990 to December 1994, author had treated by acupuncture for 75 cases of strained headache. The results were as follows. 1. There were some kind of head-ache, posterior head-ache( 32.0 % ), lateral head-ache( 28 % ), whole head-ache( 25.3 % ), floating head-ache(8.0%), upper head-ache( 4.0 % ), front head-ache( 2.7 % ). 2. The causes of head-ache were indistinctness ( 34.7 % ), sensibility ( 53.3 % ), indigestion( 12.9 % ), ect. 3. The combined symptoms were indigestion, constipation, sensibility, hypertention, muscle-ache, ect. 4. There were effects of acupuncture treatment, unavailability (25.3 %), availability (74.7 %). 5. There were availability in according with increasing treatment.

저자는 한약 복용, 침을 이용한 저주파 전기자극 치료, 이침요법, 부항요법, 행동수정요법, 식이 및 운동지도 등을 중심으로 한 기존의 비만 치료 방법으로 체중 및 체지방 감소를 시도했으나 실패한 경험이 있는 환자를 대상으로 새로운 치료 기술인 약주요법을 위주로 한 프로그램을 적용하여 체중, 체지방률, 복부비만도 등의 지표에서 좋은 경과를 보였으며 기존의 치료에 비해 치료 만족도가 높았던 증례를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다.

Objective : This study was designed to find out whether placebo auricular acupuncture is able to be constituted as an appropriate control group for needle insertion to Korean. Methods : We performed a randomized controlled, single-blind study(n=48) comparing subjective evaluations of needles insertion and avoidance of needles insertion. Both ears were needled concurrently, one real acupuncture(needle insertion) and the other placebo acupuncture(avoidance of needle insertion with blunt tip). Subjects then completed a questionnaire rating the intensity of five sensations in each ear, and also attempted to identity which ear received placebo and which ear received real acupuncture. Results : As for the effects of real and placebo acupuncture on each item(Warmth, Fullness, Pain, Activity, Radiating), real acupuncture was significantly warmer, fuller, more painful than placebo acupuncture. In particular, the real acupuncture only in experienced acupuncture recipients was significantly warmer, fuller, more painful than placebo acupuncture. About the ability to differentiate real and placebo acupuncture, 54.2 percent correctly identified which ear received real acupuncture and which ear received placebo acupuncture. However, the ability to differentiate real and placebo acupuncture for naive and experienced acupuncture recipients was not significantly different. Conclusions : Most of the subjects(Korean) identified which ear received placebo and which ear received real acupuncture. We found that this placebo auricular acupuncture is not able to be applied to Korean, in particular for experienced acupuncture recipients. Further study is needed for new placebo auricular acupuncture or racial difference between American.

Objectives : This study was performed to examine the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture to adult men on smoking cessation. Methods : 47 smoking people was divided two groups : experimental group(treated with auricular acupuncture therapy, n=22) and control group(not treated with auricular acupuncture therapy, n=25). We used Lung point, Shenmen point and Endocrine point twice a week for 4 weeks to experimental group. We assessed the changes in amount of daily smoking, desire of smoking, taste of smoking and nicotine dependence as well as subjective symptoms were studied. Results : The experimental group showed significant decrease in amount of daily smoking, desire of smoking, taste of smoking and nicotine dependence. Subjective symptoms also showed improvement comparing to control group. Conclusions : Acupuncturing lung, shenmen, and endocrine point showed effectiveness on decreasing smoking rates and subjective symptoms. Therefore the auricular acupuncture therapy is expected to helpful to smoking cessation and improve the health of smokers.

Objective : This study was designed to evaluate the decreasing or stop-smoking effect of smoking patients who were given to the auricular acupuncture treatment. Methods : We investigated the smoking patients who serviced Korea Power Engineering Company from March 2002 to April 2002. And one month later we investigated result. Results : In the success rate of low nicotine dependence group, stop-smoking was 28.2%, Above good effect was 57.7%. In the success rate of high nicotine dependence group, stop-smoking was 12.5%, Above good effect was 23.1%. Conclusion : We found that the auricular acupuncture treatment has the decreasing or stop-smoking effect of smoking patients specially to low nicotine dependence group.

Objectives : To review the controlling methods used in RCTs (randomized controlled trials) of auricular acupuncture. Methods : To investigate the controlling methods used in clinical trials of auricular acupuncture, 46 articles were retrieved from PUBMED (from August 1976 to August 2007, with limits: english, clinical trial) using the key words of "ear acupuncture", "auricular acupuncture", "auriculo-medicine", and sorted out according to the types of control treatments. Among them, 10 articles were selected based on STRICTA (Standards for Reporting Intervention in Controlled Trials of Acupuncture), and the controlling methods used in those articles were reviewed. Results : In clinical trials of auricular acupuncture, 'sham acupoints (non-acupoints and non-treatment acupoints included)', 'minimal acupuncture', 'pseudo-intervention', and 'placebo devices' have been used as controlling methods, but their 'inactivity' have been in question. To compensate the disadvantages of 'minimal acupuncture', and 'pseudo-intervention' control, placebo auricular acupuncture needles have been developed, although these needles didn't satisfy the conditions of 'blinding' and 'physical inactivity' simultaneously. Conclusions : Further researches on 'sham acupoints' and new development of 'placebo auricular acupuncture needles' are needed.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to inspect recovery state of patients suffering from nausea and vomiting, who received auricular acupuncture. On the other hand, we are going to examine effects of auricular acupuncture through the study of treatises on nausea and vomiting. Nausea and vomiting are ordinary symptoms of dispositional or functional disease. The symptoms often appear without obvious disorders that can be detected on various inspection. Methods: Auricular acupuncture needling was given to the patients who had reported the symptoms of nausea and vomiting. They were hospitalized at the korean oriental internal medicine of National Medical Center from Dec. 2002 to Aug. 2003. Result: Relatively quick response of treatment was acquired after auricular acupuncture on nausea and vomiting. Conclusion: This study shows that auricular acupuncture is effective in reducing nausea and vomiting without regard to causal disease.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to review the auricular acupuncture treatment of insomnia in current traditional medicine. Methods : We reviewed the 18 studies about auricular acupuncture of insomnia which were published from 2005 through 2009. We selected those studies from PubMed, ScienceDirect, CNKI, KMbase, Korean studies Information Service System, and Korean traditional knowledge portal. Results : Selected 18 studies were divided into 8 case reports and 10 control studies. Auricular acupuncture points frequently used were Sinmun(神門), Heart(心) and acupuncture points frequently used were Baekhoe(百會, GV20), Sinmun(神門, HT7). According to specific parts of symptom, some points were added. Most of studies reported that Auricular acupuncture treatment of insomnia were very effective. Conclusions : There have been many auricular acupuncture treatment of insomnia in traditional medicine, and we believe that these studies could be applied to the clinical practices in Korea.

이 논문은 반구형 수조에 설치되어 있는 침전극과 구형전극에 표준뇌임펄스전압을 인가하였을 때 나타나는 수중 방전현상과 절연파괴특성을 나타낸다. 이 논문의 목적은 뇌서지에 대한 과도접지임피던스와 관련된 기본적인 특성을 파악하는데 있다. 인가전압의 극성과 물의 저항률에 따른 방전광을 촬영하였고 절연파괴전압의 의존성을 측정하였다. 침전극과 구형전극의 끝단에서 스트리머코로나가 발생하였고 접지된 수조를 향하여 단계적으로 진전하였다. 저항률에 따른 절연파괴전압은 V자 형태를 나타내며, 구형전극의 절연파괴전압-시간곡선이침전극보다 높게 나타났다.
