The effect of pH on the corrosion characteristics in the dissimilar friction welded zone of IN713LC-SCM440 in the loaded torsional stress was studied. The corrosion experiment was performed for 120 hours on the specimens with five steps of pH. The surface corrosion pattern of the SCM440 area showed global corrosion and narrow pitting, which was caused by galvanic corrosion between friction welded IN713LC and SCM440, but corrosion did not proceeded from the IN713LC area. The average relative electrode potential gradually tends to decrease with the elapse of the immersion time in the acidity area. The average corrosion current also gradually tend to decrease The corrosion rate showed a larger value when the average relative electrode potential was higher and the average relative current was lower. The corrosion rate showed a larger value when the average relative electrode potential was higher in the acidity area, and it showed large when the average relative electrode potential was lower in the alkalinity area.

The fatigue strength and fracture topography in the friction welded interface of high speed steel (HSS-Co) to SM55C carbon steel have been investigated through the fatigue test, SEM fractograph and EDS (energy dispersive spectrometer) analysis. Three kinds of specimens used in this research are the friction welded joints, HSS-Co and SM55C carbon steel with circumferential notch, saw notch and smooth, respectively. The notch sensitivity factor, .eta. of the friction welded joints is lower than that of the base materials, and that represents a superiority of the joint performance of FRW. Fracture topography of the FRW specimens with a notch showed a cleavage or brittle appearance, while that of the FRW smooth specimen appeared to be ductile. Furthermore, although fatigue crack likely initiated near the weld interface of the FRW smooth specimen, crack propagation continued into the HAZ of SM55C steel. Finally, fatigue fractures of the base materials were associated primarily with the inclusions located at the outer periphery of the specimen.

In this paper, joints of Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy to STS316L were performed by friction welding method. Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy is attractive candidate as nuclear power plant material and exibit the best combination of high sts good electrical and thermal conductivity of any copper alloy examined. The stainless steel is a structural material who alloy acts as a heat sink material for the surface heat flux in the first wall. So, in this paper, not only the develop optimizing of friction welding with more reliability and more applicabililty but also the development of in-process rear quility(such as strength and toughness) evaluation technique by acoustic emission for friction welding of such nuclear component of Cu-1Cr-0.1Zr alloy to STS316L steel were performed.

It was confirmed that the life predictive equation by LMP-ISM are effective only up to 10$^2$hours and can not be used for long times of 10$^3$~10$^{5}$ hours, but that by ISM can be used for long times creep life prediction with more reliability. The predictive creep life equation of ISM has better reliability than those by LMP and LMP-ISM, and its realizably is getting better for long time creep prediction(10$^3$~10$^{5}$ H).
The friction-welding SM25C is a substitute for the suing steel that is utilized in the machinery, airplane, and automobile, ok. This substitution would provide reduction of material and weight of welding parts. From the result we found that the strength of the friction welded joint was 529-617MPa and the toughness 1.2 times higher than that of the base metal. The optimal condition of friction welding was found as follows : n=2000rpm, $P_1$=68㎫, $P_2$=137MPa, $t_2$=2sec, $t_1$=2-4sec, Considering the strength, the hardness, and the reduction of area in the friction welding, the fiction welding using SUP9A and SM25C was found to cause no problem in on-the-job application.

In this study behavior of deformation and fracture under static tensile load in friction welded dissimilar materials and necking 0phenomenon occuring at tensile yeilding point were shown. Fibrous zone with view of macroscope and dimple pattren with a view of microscope were observed at shear surface.
In this study, dissimilar friction welding were produced using 15mm diameter solid bar in chrome molybedenum steel(SCM440) to carbon steel(S45C) to investigate their mechanical properties and the relationship between the weld parameters and the nondestructive coefficients, such as AE counts and ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. The main friction welding parameters were selected to endure good quality welds on the basis of visual examination, tensile tests, Vickers hardness surveys of the bond of area and heat affected zone. The specimens were tested as-welded and post weld heat treated(PWHT). The tensile strength of the friction welded steel bars was increased up to 100% of the S45C base metal under the condition of all heating time. The ductility of PWHT specimens is higher than as-welded.

In this paper, dissimilar friction welding were produced using 15 mm diameter solid bar in chrome molybedenum steel(SCM440) to stainless steel(STS316L) to investigate their mechanical properties. Consequently, optimal welding conditions were n=2000 rpm, HP=70 MPa, UP=140 MPa, HT=10 sec and UT=10 sec when the metal loss(Mo) is 8.6 mm. In addition, an acoustic emission technique was applied to evaluate the optimal friction welding condition. AE parameters including the cumulative count, amplitude and energy showed a various changes according to the friction condition. A continuous type waveforms and low frequency spectrum was presented in friction time. On the other hand, a burst type waveform and high frequency spectrum was exhibited in pressing time.
In terms of mechanical and metallurgical characteristics, the effect of tool plunge depths(0.2, 0.5, 0.7, 1.0, 1.5mm) on weldability in dissimilar Al5083-O/DP590 friction spot joint has been clarified. From the results, it is found that the stirred nugget was stably formed at a plunge depth of more than 0.7mm, which is caused by improved stirring action against each other material. With increasing a plunge depth, the thickness of intermetallic compound(IMC) layer in Al5083-O/DP590 joint has a tendency to increase. The tensile shear strength reaches to the maximum failure load of 6.5kN at a plunge depth of 0.7mm due to relatively small decrease in the thickness of Al5083-O sheet and relatively minute thickness of IMC layer, compared with those of other plunge depth conditions.
