Prediction model for particle behavior and austenite grain growth in Ti added low alloyed steel HAZ (Ti 첨가 저합금강에서의 용접 열영향부 석출물 거동 및 오스테나이르 결정립 성장 예측 모델)

  • 석출물의 용해 온도보다 낮은 온도에서의 석출물의 야금학적인 거동을 예측하였다. 평균 사이즈 석출물의 지속적인 성장만을 고려하는 기존의 모델과 달리, 본 연구에서 제안된 모델의 경우에는, Gibbs-Thomson equation으로부터 유도되는 critical particle size를 고려하였다. 제안된 모델을 이용해서 TiN석출물의 거동을 예측하였으며, 이를 실험 결과 및 기존의 모델에 의한 예측 값과 비교하였다. 석출물들의 분포는 전형적인 log-normal 분포를 따르는 것으로 관찰되었으며, 본 연구에서 제안된 모델이 기존의 모델에 비해서 실험결과와 잘 일치함을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Friction welding has emerged as a reliable process for high-production commercial applications with significant economic and technical advantages. But nondestructive test in friction weld was not clearly developed. Therefore the experimental verification is necessary in order to understand the characteristcs of the pulse echo effects according to various change in welding conditions. This paper presents an attempt to determine the relationship between the varios welding conditions and the coefficients of reflection using the ultrasonic pulse echo method in dissibilar metals friction weld. The new approach of calculating the coefficients of reflection based on measured amplitudes of the echoes is applied in this paper. These coefficients provides a single quantitative measurement which involves both acoustic energy reflected at the welded interface as well as transmitted across the interface. As a result, it was known that the quantitave relationship between welding conditions and the coefficients of reflection using the ultrasonic pulse echo exists in dissimilar metals friction weld.

  • The aim of present study is to investigate the effect of welding parameters and heat treatment conditions on the formability of the $CO_2$ laser welded silicon steel sheet. It was found that there is optimum range of the heat input ($0.6{\sim}0.7kJ/cm$) and gap distance ($0.125{\sim}0.150mm$) for the high tensile strength and the avoidance of the fracture in weld metal. Also, it was essential fur the improvement of formability to perform pre- and post-welding heat treatment which cause the uniform mixture of base metal and welding consumable.

  • This paper was conducted the fatigue crack growth test on the base metal and weld joint of bimaterial(carbon-stainless steel), carbon steel and stainless steel. As the result, the fatigue crack growth rate of weld joint on the stainless-stainless steel is faster than stainless base metal, and weld joint on the carbon-carbon steel heat affected zone is slower than carbon base metal. And fatigue crack growth rate of carbon-stainless steel weld joint and heat affected zone is similar to the behavior of stainless base metal. In conclusion, weld joint of bimaterial is stable in the fatigue crack growth behavior.

  • for the kぉ mechanics analysis of a crack in a weld of dissimilar steels, residual stress analysis and fracture analysis must be performed simultaneously. The standard definition of the J-integral leads to a path dependent value in the presence of a residual stress field. And unlike cracks in homogeneous materials, a bimaterial interface crack always induces both opening and shearing modes of stress in the vicinity of the crack tip. Therefore, it is necessary to develope a path independent J-integral definition for a crack in a residual stress field generated by welding of dissimilar steels. This paper addresses the modification of the Rice-J-integral to produce a path independent J-integral when residual stresses due to welding of dissimilar steels and external forces are present. The residual stress problem is heated as an initial stain problem and the J-integral proposed for this class of problems is used And a program which can evaluate the 1-integral for a crack in a weld of dissimialr steels is developed using proposed J-integral definition.

  • Fracture mechanics evaluation of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in the dissimilar metal weld (DMW) for the nuclear piping system is performed; simulating the transition joint of the ferritic nozzle to austenitic safe-end fabricated with the Inconel Alloy A82/182 buttering and welds. Residual stresses in the DMW are computed by the finite element (FE) analyses Then, to investigate the SCC in the weld root under the combined residual and system operation stresses, the fracture mechanics parameters for a semi-elliptical surface crack are evaluated using the finite element alternating method (FEAM). As a result, it is found that the effect of weld residual stresses on the crack-driving forces is dominant, as high as three times or more than the operation stresses.

  • This study aimed to evaluate the low temperature properties of the 18Cr ferritic stainless steel weld. Applied welding methods were LB(Laser Beam) and GTA(Gas Tungsten Arc) welding to compare the different low temperature properties of the welds. Low temperature properties were evaluated by the Charpy impact, Erichsen and Expansion test at low temperature. LB weld showed superior low temperature properties in the cases of the Charpy impact test and expansion test at low temperature, while GTA weld showed a superior low temperature property in the case of Erichsen test at low temperature. The different low temperature properties with test methods are still under analysis and may be due to different crack path depending on the microstructure, test speed and stress concentration during test.

  • Increasing demand of using low weight materials in recent automotive trends has been the challenge to develop a sound welding of aluminum alloys. A heat treatable AA6082-T6 and a non-heat treatable AA5083-0 aluminum alloys were joined in this study. Investigations revealed that about 60 UTS will be reduced due to welding process. Fracture happened in the interface between fusion zone and base metal of top specimen where penetration is shallow. Therefore, lower welding torch angle produced the better strength which allows deeper penetration to the top specimen. PWHT at $560^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours can be used to return the original UTS of the specimens.

  • Alloy 600 and Alloy 82/182 materials have been used widely in PWR plants. But these materials are known to be susceptible to PWSCC(Primary Water Stress Corrosion Cracking). Recently, there have been several PWSCC events in major components due to repair welding, because repair welding in the dissimilar metal welds during the construction increases residual stress significantly on the inner surface of welds. In this paper, various residual stress analyses for repair welding were performed using FEM to check the effect of repair welding on residual stress distributions in PZR safety/relief nozzle. The results indicate that for inside surface repair welding, high tensile residual stress is developed on the inside surface of the nozzles.

The Mechanical Properties and the Nondestructive Evaluation of Dissimilar Friction Welded Steel Bars (이종마찰용접 강봉재의 기계적특성과 비파괴 평가)

  • In this study, dissimilar friction welding were produced using 15mm diameter solid bar in chrome molybedenum steel(SCM440) to carbon steel(S45C) to investigate their mechanical properties and the relationship between the weld parameters and the nondestructive coefficients, such as AE counts and ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. The main friction welding parameters were selected to endure good quality welds on the basis of visual examination, tensile tests, Vickers hardness surveys of the bond of area and heat affected zone. The specimens were tested as-welded and post weld heat treated(PWHT). The tensile strength of the friction welded steel bars was increased up to 100% of the S45C base metal under the condition of all heating time. The ductility of PWHT specimens is higher than as-welded.
