Recently, it is frequently reported that fatigue damages of deck slabs and floor systems of highway bridges occur under the conditions of increasing weight and traffic of heavy vehicles. These troubles are affected by dynamic wheel load of heavy vehicles running on roadway surface roughness with bump at expansion joint. It is required that this kind of traffic-induced vibration of highway bridges must be analyzed by using three-dimensional models of bridge and vehicle. In this study, the three-dimensional dynamic analysis is carried out, and dynamic responses of deck slab and wheel loads of moving vehicle are estimated according to different vehicle speeds and bump heights. Analytical responses of bridge deck slab are compared with experimental ones which were measured at Umeda entrance bridge of Hanshin Expressway in Osaka.

In this paper, experiments for the evaluation of tensile strength of steel plate with bolt hole and bearing strength of bolted connection were performed, where bolt holes were punched by drilling and oxygen torch, respectively. For the tensile tests, drilled and oxygen torch punched steel plate specimens of 10mm and 15mm thickness were made from structural angles and H-shapes, respectively. For the bearing strength evaluation, test specimens were fabricated with base plates and splice plates those were also punched by drilling and oxygen torch, respectively. The Vicker's hardness were measured around the bolt hole to investigate material property change due to heat effect by oxygen torch cut. Numerical analysis was also performed to investigate the bearing strength of bolted joints due to the increase of hardness around the bolt hole by oxygen torch cut.

RC slab bridges account for the largest portion of deteriorated bridges in Korea. However, most RC slabs are not included in the first and second classes of bridges, which are subject to bridge safety management and maintenance. The highest damaged components in highway bridges are the subsidiary facilities including expansion joints and bearings. In particular, leakage through expansion joints causes deterioration and cracks of concrete and exposure of reinforced bars. Therefore, this study analyzed the effect of adhesion damage at expansion joints on the response of the deck in RC slab bridges. When the spacing between the expansion joints at both ends was closely adhered, cracks occurred in the concrete at both ends of the deck due to the resistance rigidity at the expansion joints. Based on the response results, the correlation analysis between displacements in the longitudinal direction of the expansion joint and concrete stress at both ends of the deck for each damage scenario was performed to investigate the effect of the occurrence of damage on the bridge behavior. When expansion joint devices at both sides were damaged, the correlation between displacement and stress showed a low correlation of 0.18 when the vehicles proceeded along all the lanes. Compared with those in the intact state, the deflections of the deck in the damaged case at both sides showed a low correlation of 0.34 to 0.53 while the vehicle passed and 0.17 to 0.43 after the vehicle passed. This means that the occurrence of cracks in the ends of concrete changed the behavior of the deck. Therefore, data-deriven damage detection could be developed to manage the damage to expansion joints that cause damage and deterioration of the deck.
Most of the ship structures and offshore structures are constructed through the welding and they are always subjected to variable loads. In this study, fatigue and stress concentration of the various types of welding connections due to the variable loads are investigated by using numerical approach, and comparisons between numerical analysis and experiments are performed. Fillet weld, full penetration weld and partial penetration weld characteristics are studied by using parameters such as penetration length, welding leg length, size and penetration angle. Based on this study, it is suggested that the fillet welding can be replaced with the penetration welding in some cases. The results of this study can be used as guidelines for actual welding problems in the shipyards.

To evaluate the mechanical behavior and the compressive stress distribution in high tension bolted joints according to the size of bolt hole, the experimental and analytical studies are performed with enlarging bolt hole size. In experimental study, the static test is performed to measure the slip coefficient, and the fatigue test is also performed to evaluate the fatigue strength and failure pattern of fatigue crack. In analytical study, the compressive stress distribution is investigated by using the finite element analysis. From the result of experimental study, the slip coefficient and fatigue strength of the high tension bolted joints with oversize hole are not much different but somewhat it has decreased. These are because the size of bolt hole is larger than the holes of nominal size, therefore the width of clamping force is decreased and the compressive stress distribution area is smaller, this is certificated in the finite element analysis. In addition, the origin of fatigue crack in the oversize holes is closer to the hole than in the holes of nominal size, consequently it is investigated that the origin of fatigue crack is intimately associated with the compressive stress distribution which is formulated by the clamping force in both base metal and splice plate.

This paper shows the possibility of performing Lap joint using the friction stir welding with $2mm^t$ aluminum alloy plate and the determination of tool-dimensions for FSW in milling machine. This research also is reported on obtaining the tensile-shear strength, 91.3 (MPa) and the energy absorption, 26.3 (J) for Lap jointed specimen. The optimal tool-dimensions and method for Lap joint using FSW is as follows; each diameter of shoulder and pin is $9\phi(mm) and 3\phi(mm)$, the length of pin is 3.6(mm), Pressing the shoulder of tool into original base metal is not reasonable.

The tunnel stability concerned with safety is very important in coal production process. The tunnel supports made by the GI beam has been used in domestic coal mine tunnels, and the GI beam was connected with another by the fish plate. It is necessary to analysis for the bending problems of the fish plate due to the rock pressure in some domestic mine tunnels. Therefore, this study proposes the application possibility of the optimization algorithms for the problem searching a load condition that bring about bending problem in tunnels. Consequently, in order to investigate the load conditions, desirability function as one of the optimization methods to study the bending behavior of tunnel supports was applied.
This research carried out to optimize crossbeams and stringers of steel box girder bridges, which are parts of floor system and support loading from the bridge deck. In the current design practice, the crossbeam is densely deployed with a spacing of 6 meters, and the stringer is placed between the crossbeams. The crossbeams and stringer are connected to the deck through slab anchors but the allowable stress of the compression flange is determined by the lateral-torsional buckling. To increase economic efficiency of the steel box girder bridges. the increased spacing of the crossbeam was studied. The study shows that the spacing can be increased up to 10 meters. However, higher strength steel plates are necessary. Shear studs rather than slab anchors are also recommended to prevent lateral-torsional buckling strength of the crossbeams and stringer.
