The high-tension bolted joints are clamped by the axial force which approaches the yielding strength. The introduced axial force is transmitted to the connection members pass through washer. The transferred load in connections is balanced to the compressive stress of plates, axial force in bolts and the external loads. In this mechanism, the compressive stress and slip load we dominated by the effective stiffness of bolted joints and plates. In general the effective stiffness is specified to product to the effective area and elasticity modulus in connections. In this reason, the conic projection formular which is assumed that the axial force in bolts is distributed to the cone shape and that region is related to the elastic deformation mechanism in connections, was proposed. But it conclude what kind of formula is justified. Therefore in this paper, the fatigue tests are performed to the high tension bolted joints and inspected to the phase on the friction face. And using the FEM and numerical method, it is analyzed and approximated to the compressive stress distribution and its region. Moreover, it is estimated to the effective area and to the relation the friction area to the effective compressive distribution region.

The segment lining which consists of segments and joints are main component of shield tunnel. There are a number of methods that are being used in design which compute the sectional forces of a ring of segment lining. The traditional design methods which do not consider the effect of joints have been commonly used for design procedure without a specific verification of structural analysis. This paper presents the result of a comparative study for analytical and numerical models of the shield tunnel segment lining. For the traditional methods, the elastic equation method and the Duddeck & Erdmann method were considered. The ring-beam and the continuum analysis model were also considered as the numerical model.
Steel Plate for Rebar Connection was recently developed to splice rebars in delayed slab-wall joints in high-rise building, slurry wall-slab joints, temporary openings, etc. It consists of several couplers and a thin steel plate with shear key. Cyclic loading tests on slab-wall joints were conducted to verify structural behavior of the joints having Steel Plate for Rebar Connection. For comparison, joints with Rebend Connection and without splices were also tested. The joints with Steel Plate for Rebar Connection showed typical flexural behavior in the sequence of tension re-bar yielding, sufficient flexural deformation, crushing of compression concrete, and compression rebar buckling. However, the joints with Rebend Connection had more bond cracks in slabs faces and spalling in side cover-concrete, even though elastic behavior of the joints was similar to that of the joints with Steel Plate for Re-bar Connection. Consequently, the joints with Rebend Connection had less strengths and deformation capacities than the joints with Steel Plate for Re-bar Connection. In addition, stiffness of the joints with Rebend Connection degraded more rapidly than the other joints as cyclic loads were applied. This may be caused by low elastic modulus of re-straightened rebars and restraightening of kinked bar. For two types of diameters (13mm and 16mm) and two types of grades (SD300 and SD400) of rebars, the joints with Steel Plate for Rebar Connection had higher strength than nominal strength calculated from actual material properties. On the contrary, strengths of the joints with Rebend Connection decreased as bar diameter increased and as grade becames higher. Therefore, Rebend Connection should be used with caution in design and construction.

The segment lining design for shield tunnel is generally carried out by using the beam-spring model and the induced member forces from the model are strongly influenced by the components of the model such as imposed load, coefficient of subgrade reaction, location of segment joint and its stiffness. The structural models and stiffness of its connection part found used in abroad design cases is usually obtained as it is for the domestic design of segment of shield tunnel. Those models and stiffness in existing design cases are conventionally applied to a new tunnel design without any suitability review for the project. In this study, the application method of base components of the model such as the coefficient of subgrade reaction and modelling method to the segment lining design was suggested by carrying out the comparative study of the base elements for the member forces estimation of segment lining of shield tunnel.

Splice of reinforcement is inevitable in reinforced concrete structures and, generally, lap splices are used. Lap length for tension splice is determined from development length in tension. The development length is calculated from an experimental model which was based on data of tests on anchorage and splice. Longitudinal reinforcements in flexural members are deformed and, therefore, prying action happens in spliced reinforcements unlike anchored reinforcements. The prying action induces tensile stress in cover concrete and this tensile stress plays the same role to a circumferential tensile stress caused by bond. Because splitting failure is assumed to occur when the summation of tensile stresses caused by the prying action and the bond is equal to the tensile strength of the concrete, the prying action reduces the bond strength of spliced reinforcements. A theoretical model for the prying action is developed and effects of the prying action on the bond strength are assessed. The tensile stress by the prying action is proportional to tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of reinforcements. In addition, the tensile stress is inversely proportional to spacing of reinforcements. Consequently, longer splice length is required for spliced reinforcements with small spacing in flexible members.

In this study, the slip behavior of high-tension bolted joints subjected to compression force is investigated through 3D finite element analysis and experiments. The relation with sliding load, bolt deformation, and failure load are studied with the metal thickness affecting the bolted joint. The post-sliding behavior considering bolt stiffness is presented and compared with the results by finite element and experiments. The finite element model is constructed by solid elements in ABAQUS, in consideration of all the friction effects between metal plates and bolts. The stress-strain relations in the literature are used, and the sliding displacements and axial stresses around the bolt connection are investigated. The flexural buckling of species happened when the plate thickness is less than the bolt diameter. However, the shear failures of bolt occurred in the opposite case.
