  • Atmospheric aerosols, small particles in the atmosphere, are one of the important parameters in climate change and human health. Additionally, accurate estimates of aerosol species are increasingly important in environmental impact assessment studies. Recent advances in global satellite remote sensing provide powerful tool for air quality monitoring. This study explores the potential usage of satellite derived data such as atmospheric aerosols for air quality monitoring as well as climate change study. The objectives of this study is to understand the general features of the global distribution of type dependent aerosols. A detailed spatio-temporal variability of the each different satellite dataset shows the variation of the global zonal average and specific geographical regions where the strong emission sources are located. Especially, significantly large aerosol amounts are observed in Asia and Africa because of the desert dust storm, anthropogenic and biomass burning emissions.

  • Graded layers in which two different constituent particles are mixed are inserted into functionally graded material such that the volume fractions of constituent particles vary continuously and functionally over the entire material domain. The material properties of this dual-phase graded region, which is essential for the numerical analysis of the thermo-mechanical behavior of FGM, have been predicted by traditional homogenization methods. But, these methods are limited to predict the global equivalent material properties of FGMs because the detailed geometry information such as the particel shape and the dispersion structure is not considered. In this context, this study intends to investigate the characteristics of these homogenization methods through the finite element analysis utilizing the discrete micromechanics models of the graded layer, for various volume fractions and external loading conditions.

  • A parametric array is a nonlinear phenomenon that generates a narrow beam of low-frequency sound using the nonlinearity of the medium. The low-frequency sound so generated has a low sound pressure compared with that of sound generated directly. Consequently, a transducer that can generate a primary wave with high directivity and level is required. This study designed, fabricated, and evaluated a multi-resonance transducer as a parametric array source. The designs of the unit transducers and array transducer were based on an analysis model. The design process was repeated to fabricate the optimum transducer. The fabricated transducer array can generate a 189 dB, 190 dB primary wave level at 6.3 m and a 134 dB difference frequency wave using the parametric array phenomenon. The difference frequency wave has a frequency of 15 kHz and high directivity with an $8^{\circ}$ half power beam width in a $12{\times}18{\times}10m$ water tank.

  • In this paper, we propose a hardware design for correction of barrel distortion using the nearest coordinates in the corrected image. Because it applies the nearest distance on corrected image rather than adjacent distance on distorted image, the picture quality is improved by the image whole area, solve the staircase phenomenon in the exterior area. But, because of additional arithmetic operation using design of bilinear interpolation, required arithmetic operation is increased. Look up table(LUT) structure is proposed in order to solve this, coordinate rotation digital computer(CORDIC) algorithm is applied. The results of the synthesis using Design compiler, the design of implementing all processes of the interpolation method with the hardware is higher than the previous design about the throughput, In case of the rear camera, the design of using LUT and hardware together can reduce the size than the design of implementing all processes with the hardware.

  • Dynamic soil-pile interaction is the main concern in the design of group piles under earthquake loadings. The lateral resistance of the pile group under dynamic loading becomes different from that of a single pile due to the group pile effect. However, this aspect has not yet been properly studied for the pile group under seismic loading condition. Thus, in this study the group pile effect was evaluated by performing a series of dynamic centrifuge tests on $3{\times}3$ group pile in dry loose sand. The multiplier coefficients for ultimate lateral resistance and subgrade reaction modulus were suggested to obtain the p-y curve of the group pile. The suggested coefficients were verified by performing the nonlinear dynamic analyses, which adopted Beam on Nonlinear Winkler Foundation model. The predicted behavior of the pile group showed the reasonable agreement compared with the results of the centrifuge tests under sinusoidal wave and artificial wave.

  • Dynamic analysis of a marine slender structure is often involved with contacts among bodies or between bodies and seafloor. This paper presents an efficient and general contact search algorithm for dynamics in the context of the compliance contact model. A global detecting method that a bounding box is divided into several pieces in global coordinate system is presented in this paper. The method has an advantage that the number of contacting searching can be smaller than other methods for a system. The developed an efficient contact search algorithm is applied to the simulation program of 3D nonlinear dynamics of slender structure. Some examples are presented to show the validity of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a new adaptive macroblock quantization algorithm which generates the output bits corresponding to the target bit budget. The H.264 standard uses various coding modes and optimization methods to improve the compression performance, which makes it difficult to control the amount of the generated traffic accurately. In the proposed scheme, linear regression analysis is used to analyze the relationship between the bit rate of each macroblock and the quantization parameter and to predict the MAD values. Using the predicted values, the quantization parameter of each macroblock is determined by the Lagrange multiplier method and then modified according to the difference between the bit budget and the generated bits. It is shown by experimental results that the new algorithm can generate output bits accurately corresponding to the target bit rates.

  • Recently seismic fragility analysis method has been widely used for the seismic probabilistic risk assessment of infrastructures such as nuclear power plants, buildings and bridges because of its probabilistic characteristics. Furthermore, this technique has been applied to large-scale social systems consisted of each infrastructures by combing GIS. In this paper, the applicability of this technique to domestic infrastructural systems was studied. The transportation network was selected as one of these domestic infrastructural systems. Example studies were peformed about Changwon city. Nonlinear time history analysis, with a maximal likelihood approach were conducted to establish the fragility curves of each infrastrucures (bridges). GIS analysis was also applied to the analysis of whole infrastructural systems. The results show that it is very useful to predict seismic probabilistic risk assessment of this domestic transportation network. However, it also shows that further studies such as more suitable damage criterion to domestic structure and precise nonlinear analysis techniques should be developed to predict more precise results.

  • In this study, transonic aeroelastic response analyses have been conducted for the DLR-F4(wing-body) aircraft configuration considering shockwave and flow separation effects. The developed fluid-structure coupled analysis system is applied for aeroelastic computations combining computational structural dynamics(CSD), finite element method(FEM) and computational fluid dynamics(CFD) in the time domain. It can give very accurate and useful engineering data on the structural dynamic design of advanced flight vehicles. For the nonlinear unsteady aerodynamics in high transonic flow region, Navier-Stokes equations using the structured grid system have been applied to wing-body configurations. In transonic flight region, the characteristics of static and dynamic aeroelastic responses have been investigated for a typical wing-body configuration model. Also, it is typically shown that the current computation approach can yield realistic and practical results for aircraft design and test engineers.
