Performance of Carbon Dioxide System for Freezing and Refrigeration (이산화탄소를 이용한 냉동·냉장 시스템의 성능연구)

  • Performance of freezing and refrigeration systems in supermarket, which utilized $CO_2$ as a refrigerant, was investigated by using the Pack Calculation II. The configuration of simulated systems was basic parallel refrigeration system, cascade system, and two-stage system. The $CO_2$ cascade system showed higher COP than basic parallel R404A system by 13% for MT and 62% for LT, respectively. Among the $CO_2$ cascade systems, R717(MT)-$CO_2$(LT) showed the highest performance. Open-type intercooler method showed higher performance than liquid injection for the two-stage $CO_2$ systems.

  • In this paper, cycle performance analysis for cooling capacity, compression work and COP of R744($CO_2$) transcritical vapor compression refrigeration system is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include superheating degree, outlet temperature of gas cooler and evaporating temperature in the R744 vapor compression cycle. The main results were summarized as follows : The cooling capacity of R744 increases with superheating degree, but decreases with the increasing evaporating temperature and outlet temperature of gas cooler. The compression work increases with superheating degree and cooling pressure of R744, but decreases with the increasing evaporating temperature. And, The COP increases with outlet temperature and evaporating temperature of R744 gas cooler, but decreases with the increasing superheating degree. Therefore, superheating degree, outlet temperature and evaporating temperature of R744 vapor compression refrigeration system have an effect on the cooling capacity, compression work and COP of this system. With a thorough grasp of these effect, it is necessary to design the compression refrigeration cycle using R744.

  • The economic analysis for the power plant developed in the conceptual design phase is becoming more important and, research on process optimization for process development that meets the target economic is actively carried out. In the filed of power generation systems, economic assessment methods to predict the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) has been widely applied for comparing economic effect quantitatively. In this paper, the platform that design criteria of key component required to optimize economic of power cycle can be calculated reversely was established roughly and design criteria of the key equipment (Compressor, turbine, heat exchanger) required to meet the target LCOE (the LCOE of supercritical steam Rankine cycle) was derived when the supercritical $CO_2$ power cycle is applied to the coal-fired power plant.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate cooling performance characteristics of mobile air conditioning system using R744 as an alternative of R-134a. In order to analyze the cooling performance characteristics of the air conditioning system using R744 for a passenger vehicle, the developed air conditioning system using R744 was applied in a real passenger vehicle and tested under various operating conditions with the variation of gas-cooler inlet air conditions, evaporator inlet air temperatures and compressor speeds. As a result, cooling capacity and coefficient of performance (COP) of the tested air conditioning system decreased with the rise of the inlet air temperature of the gas cooler but increased with the rise of the inlet air temperature of the evaporator. In addition, cooling capacity and coefficient of performance (COP) increased by 42.2 % with the rise of the compressor speed from 900 rev/min to 1800 rev/min, but it decreased by 55.4%.

  • 현재 상용가능한 연소전 $CO_2$ 포집 기술은 습식 스크러빙 방식으로 고온의 합성가스를 상온 수준으로 온도를 낮춘 후 $CO_2$를 포집해야 하고 포집된 $CO_2$의 압력이 낮아 재압축하여 저장소로 보내야 함에 따라 큰 폭의 열효율 손실이 불가피하다. 고온 고압에서 이산화탄소를 포집할수 있는 고체 흡수제를 이용할 경우 이산화탄소 포집 치 저장 추가에 따른 시스템 효율 저하를 최소화할 수 있다. 고체 $CO_2$ 흡수제는 서로 연결된 두 개의 유동층 반응기를 순환하면서 흡수탑에서는 합성가스 중의 $CO_2$를 흡수하고 재생탑에서는 고온의 수증기와 접촉하여 흡수된 $CO_2$를 다시 배출함으로써 재생된다. 따라서 건식 재생 $CO_2$ 흡수제는 유동층 공정에 응용가능한 물성과 함께 높은 $CO_2$ 흡수능과 빠른 반응성이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 유동층 공정에 적합한 물성을 가진 연소전 $CO_2$ 포집용 고체 흡수제를 분무건조법으로 제조하였으며, 모사 합성가스를 이용하여 열중량분석기와 기포유동층반응기를 이용하여 $200^{\circ}C$ 흡수, $400^{\circ}C$ 재생, 압력 20 bar 조건으로 반응성을 측정하였다. 개발된 고체 $CO_2$ 흡수제는 열중량분석기에서는 반응 후 10-13 wt%의 무게증가를 나타내었고 기포유동층반응기에서는 8-10 wt%의 $CO_2$ 흡수능을 보여주었다. 특히 수증기의 함량이 10% 이상에서 높은 흡수능을 나타내어 수증기가 반응에 크게 작용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Solubility Consideration in Performance Analysis of a $CO_2$ Twin Rotary Compressor (오일 용해도를 고려한 $CO_2$ 트윈 로타리 압축기 성능해석)

  • For a $CO_2$ two-stage twin rotary compressor used for heat pump water heater system, changes of $CO_2$ solubility in PAG oil were investigated along the gas passages from the first stage suction to final discharge. Only slight changes in solubility took place in suction chambers for both of the first and second stages, but for compression chambers, solubility variation ranged from 0.115 to 0.136, and from 0.133 to 0.182, respectively for the first and second stages. Calculation of gas flashing in parts of leakage oil flows and of oil contained in control volumes due to solubility changes was conducted and included in gas pressure calculation. For the second stage, gas flashing amounts to around $5%\sim6%$ for most leakage flows. Cooling capacity, compressor input, and COP obtained by calculation were well compared to the experimental results. Effects of operation speed on the compressor performance was also studied: as the shaft speed increased, adiabatic efficiency decreased rapidly due to increased over-compression loss.

  • A $CO_2$ heat pump system was designed for both cooling and heating in the cabin of electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles or fuel cell vehicles, In this study, the performance characteristics of the heat pump system without any supplementary heating device were analyzed and the heating performance was compared with the cooling performance for various operating conditions. Experiments were carried out by changing the speed of electric drive compressor, the air flow rate of interior heat exchanger and the air inlet temperature and speed of exterior heat exchanger. Therefore, the cooling/heating capacities and the corresponding COPs are quantified. Also, the heat pump system showed an improved performance for the cooling operation and the heating operation. In this study, the experimental results can be used to evaluate the effect of system design changes on system performance as well as the development of a highly efficient heat pump system.

  • In this study, experimental study on the heating performance of a $CO_2$ heat pump with gas injection was performed varying gas injection ratio and outdoor temperature to improve the heating performance of $CO_2$ heat pump. The twin rotary compressor having volume ratio of 0.7 was adopted in the $CO_2$ heat pump. From the test results, the heating capacity and COP were increased and the compressor discharge temperature was decreased with the increase of injection ratio. At the outdoor temperature of $-8^{\circ}C$, the heating capacity and COP with the injection were increased by 45% and 24%, respectively, compared with non-injection condition.

Experimental Study on the Cooling Performance Improvement of a Two-stage Compression $CO_2$ Cycle (2단압축 이산화탄소 사이클의 냉방성능 향상 특성에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • A $CO_2$ system using the two-stage compression cycle was tested by varying $1^{st}-2^{nd}$ compressor frequencies in the cooling mode. To improve the cooling performance of the two-stage compression $CO_2$ cycle, the following cycle options were applied: a basic cycle, a cycle with an intercooler, a cycle with an IHX (internal heat exchanger), and a cycle with an intercooler and IHX. The cycle with the intercooler-IHX showed the highest cooling capacity improvement among the cycle options at all compressor frequencies. The cycle with the intercooler, the cycle with the IHX, and the cycle with the intercooler-IHX improved the cooling COP by 7, 12, and 15%, respectively, over the basic $CO_2$ cycle when the compressor frequencies for the first and second compressors were 50 Hz and 30 Hz, respectively. In addition, the applications of the selected cycle options enhanced system reliability.

Simulation Study on the Cooling Performance of the Two-Stage Compression CO2 Cycle with the a Flash Intercooler and Flash Gas Bypass (플래쉬 중각냉각기와 플래쉬 가스 바이패스를 이용한 이단압축 이산화탄소 사이클의 냉방성능에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • There has been little study on the performance characteristics of the effective heat pump systems in the cooling mode using the two-stage compression cycles have hardly performed. In this study, the performance of the two-stage compression $CO_2$ cycle with an FI (flash intercooler) and the FGB (flash gas bypass) was investigated by using a theoretical method. The performance analysis was carried out with aby varyingiation (the indoor temperature, outdoor temperature, and 1st- and 2nd-stage EEV openings. As of a result, the coefficients of performance (COPs) of the Bbasic, FI, and FGB cycles were decreased by 28.5%, 22.1%, and 24.5%, respectively, for various outdoor temperature conditions. In addition to, the performance variation of the two-stage compression cycle was smaller than that of the single-stage compression cycle. The performance of the FI and FGB cycles was improved by 13.5%, and 6.9%, respectively, when the 1st-stage EEV opening was increased from 32% to 48%, and by 0.9%, and 2.6%, respectively, when the 1st- andthe 2nd-stage EEV opening was increased from 32% to 48%, andwas increased from 42% to 58%, respectively. The FI cycle showed anthe most improved performance for any given operating conditions.
