This research, in order to study the effects of initial shear stress of anisotropically consolidated sand that has 0.558% fines, performed several undrained static and dynamic triaxial test. To simulate the real field conditions, loose and dense samples were prepared. Besides, the cyclic shear strength of Nakdong River sand under various combinations of initial static shear stress, stress path, pore water pressure and residual strength relationship was studied. By using Bolton's theory, peak internal friction angle at failure which has considerable effects on the relative density and mean effective stress was determined. In p'- q diagram, the phase transformation line moves closer to the failure line as the specimen's initial anistropical consolidation stress increases. Loose sands were more affected than dense sands. The increase of consolidation stress ratio from 1.4 to 1.8 had an effect on liquefaction resistance strength resulting from the increase of relativity density, and showed similar CSR values in dense specimen condition.

Many studies have been carried out on carbon fiber-reinforced plastic sheet(hereafter CFRP sheet)-confined concrete specimens for improve structural performance of concrete structures. To complement the existing studies, a parametric study is conducted to examine the effect of various design parameters such as layers of CFRP sheet, size and aspect ratio of specimens, and overlap length. The behavior of CFRP-confined concrete is compared using stress-strain curves of each specimen. And the strengthening effect of CFRP sheet is examined by maximum compressive strength. As the layers of CFRP sheet increases, structural performance of CFRP-confined concrete is significant increased. If the overlap length is more than 5% of circumstance, strengthening effect is not affected. In addition, a test database assembled from test results and existing studies is presented. Using these test database, accuracy and reliability of the existing strength models for CFRP-confined concrete are verified.
In order to trace the lateral post-buckling behaviors of thin-wafled space frames, a geometrically nonlinear finite element formulation is presented by applying incremental equilibrium equations based on the updated Lagrangian formulation and introducing Vlasov's assumption. The improved displacement field for symmetric thin-walled cross sections is introduced based on inclusion of second order terms of finite rotations, and the potential energy corresponding to the semitangential rotations and moments is consistently derived. For finite element analysis, tangent stiffness matrices of the thinwalled space frame element with 7 degrees of freedom including the restrained warping for each node are derived by using the Hermition polynomials as shape functions. A co-rotational formulation in order to evaluate the unbalanced loads is presented by separating the rigid body rotations and pure deformations from incremental displacements and evaluating the updated direction cosines of the frame element due to rigid body rotations and incremental member forces from pure deformations. Finite element solutions for the spatial buckling and post-buckling analysis of thin-walled space frames are presented and compared with available solutions and other researcher's results.
The mechanical properties of generally orthotropic materials are conventionally measured by performing off-axis tensile and flexure tests. However, the inevitable coupling between tension and shear in case of tensile test or bending and twisting in flexure test case induces nonuniform displacement and stress fields. Consequential stress concentration along the boundary of specimens would result in inaccurate modulus and underestimated strength. This paper proposes the variation of specimen geometry in terms of appropriate obliquity of loaded boundary. For the purpose, classical lamination theory is transformed into skewed coordinate, and characteristic equations for both of unidirectional and laminated composite specimens are formulated. Finite element analysis is employed to show the validity of the skewedness in tensile and bending test specimens.

Triaxial compression tests were performed with control of vertical stress, confined pressure(${\sigma}_H$), and injection velocity by means of impervious soil samples with a different grain size, density and grout density. By measuring pore water pressure at the time of vertical fracturing around the bore-hole, relationships between main factors are described, and the factors are pore water pressure, confined pressure, vertical fracturing injection pressure(${\sigma}$) and the tension strength(${\sigma}_t$). The hydraulic fracturing of soft clay was occurred at the pressure which was less than the pressure obtained by the theory of elasticity. It was found that the above result was the influence of pore water pressure due to injection pressure($U_a$) and pore water pressure due to confined pressure($U_i$). Therefore, the vertical injection pressure at the time of fracturing needs to be changed as follows. $${\sigma}=2{\cdot}{{\sigma}_H}-(U_a+U_i)+{\sigma}_t$$.

The residual stress and birefringence in injection-molded plastic parts can be divided into the flow-induced residual stress and birefringence produced in flowing stage, the thermally-induced residual stress and birefringence produced in cooling stage. However, the physics involved in the generation of the thermally-induced residual stress and birefringence still remains to be understood. Because polymer experiences viscoelastic history near the glass-transition temperature it is hard to model the entire process. Volume relaxation phenomenon was included to predict the final thermally-induced residual stress and birefringence in quenched plastic parts more accurately. The present study focused on comparing the predicted values far thermally-induced residual stress and birefringence with and without volume relaxation behavior (or free volume theory) under free and constrained quenching conditions. As a result, tile residual stress remained as a tensile stress at the center and as a compressible stress near the surface for the free quenching cases. In contract the residual stress remained as a compressible stress at the center and as a tensile stress near the surface fur the constrained quenching cases. The residual birefringence remained as minus values at the center and as plus values near the surface for the free quenching cases. Interestingly the residual birefringence showed minus values in entire zone for the constrained quenching cases. In the prediction of birefringence only the case including free volume theory showed the correct result for the distribution of birefringence in thickness direction.
In this study, Based on the constructed model in advance, we suggested the macro prediction method of shrinkage cracking reduction in concrete using expansive additives, and the method was verified. In addition, extended application of model to building, the strain of walls and slabs on building was estimated by model and the generated stress was estimated thereby comparing this with the result by existing method to verify the model's applicability and the validation of our model. From examination of theoretical model for concrete using expansive additives to examination for building levels, furthermore suggests the macro prediction method for shrinkage reduction and cracking control effects was can be supply practical data in application of expansive concrete and utility in the future.
Slip along a frictional fracture can be approached as initiation and propagation of a mode II crack along its own plane. Fracture mechanics theories predict that under pure mode II loading initiation will occur when the energy release rate of the fracture attains a critical value ($G_{IIC}$), which is generally taken as a material property. For the past few years the rock mechanics group at Purdue University has investigated experimentally the dependence of $G_{IIC}$ on normal stress and on the frictional characteristics of a fracture. A number of experiments has been conducted first on acrylic, a material that, using photoelastic methods, allows visualization of the stress field ahead of the fracture tip; and later on gypsum, a rock model material with relatively low unconfined compression strength. The experimental investigation has been expanded to include other frictional materials with higher unconfined compression strength. Direct shear tests have been conducted on specimens made with cement paste. New observations together with previous experiments indicate that $G_{IIC}$ can only be considered a material property when the peak friction angle of the discontinuity is similar to the residual friction angle; otherwise the critical energy release rate increases with normal stress.
The bearing capacity of drilled shaft is affected by several factors, such as shaft length, shape, surface roughness, young's modulus of geomaterials and shaft, soil strength, confining stress and so on. However, there has been no design method of drilled shaft considering all factors mentioned above. Moreover, since geomaterials are simply classified as sand, clay and rock, there was no design criterion for IGM (Intermediate Geomaterials). Therefore, the rigorous design approach of drilled shaft was not possible by classical design method. However, since these characteristics were not considered in classical theories, bearing capacity was generally different ken practical value. In this study, the bearing capacity of drilled shaft with the IGM's theory was compared with those of classical theories. The results showed that classical method showed smaller values of bearing capacity than those of field load transfer data. Moreover, the evaluated value of bearing capacity with IGM theory corresponded fairly well with those of field data.

This study presents the current status of DECOVALEX-2023 project Task G and our research results so far. Task G, named 'Safety ImplicAtions of Fluid Flow, Shear, Thermal and Reaction Processes within Crystalline Rock Fracture NETworks (SAFENET)' aims at developing a numerical method to simulate the fracture creation and propagation, and the coupled thermohydro-mechanical processes in fracture in crystalline rocks. The first research step of Task G is a benchmark simulation, which is designed for research teams to make their modelling codes more robust and verify whether the models can represent an analytical solution for displacements of a single rock fracture. We reproduced the mechanical behavior of rock and embedded single fracture using a three-dimensional grain-based distinct element model for the simulations. In this method, the structure of the rock was represented by an assembly of rigid tetrahedral grains moving independently of each other, and the mechanical interactions at the grains and their contacts were calculated using 3DEC. The simulation results revealed that the stresses induced along the embedded fracture in the model were relatively low compared to those calculated by stress analysis due to stress redistribution and constrained fracture displacements. The fracture normal and shear displacements of the numerical model showed good agreement with the analytical solutions. The numerical model will be enhanced by continuing collaboration and interaction with other research teams of DECOVALEX-2023 Task G and validated using various experiments in a further study.
