Applications of Mathematical Optimization Method for Chemical Industries (화학 산업에서 수학적 최적화 기법을 적용한 사례)

  • Executions of SCM in a chemical company of which divisions produce petrochemicals, compounds, batteries, IT material and medicine directly affect their own profit. Execution level of SCM or optimization is very important. This work presents activities of SCM and optimization of inefficient issues in several industrial divisions using mathematical optimization method. The meaning is not only academic research but also making a useful tool which active partner deals with in his work. It is explained how to do beforehand and afterward optimization problem. The benefits are mentioned in the sections. The first of examples would be cover supply plan optimization, optimal profit business plan, and scheduling of a stretching process of polarizer based on minimizing raw material loss in polarizer production. The second example would be cover the optimization of production/packaging plans to maximize productivity of Poly Olefin processes, and the third example is minimization of transition loss in the production of battery electrodes. The fourth example would be cover scheduling of vessel approaching to berth. Because transportation of large portion of raw material and products of petrochemical industry is dealt with vessel, scheduling of vessel approaching to berth is important at the shore of large difference of tide. The final example would be scheduling problem to minimization of change over time of ABS semi products.

Analysis of Berth Operation Ratio in terms of Wave Response at Busan New Port Site (부산신항역 파랑반응에 따른 부두 가동율 해석)

  • Busan New Port, under construction aiming for the hub of Northeast Asia and Partly in operation, had damaged up to 48 billion Won due to Typhoon 'maemi' in 2003. The present criteria of domestic harbor design only describes about the critical wave height with respect to the size of vessel for harbor tranquility. The berth operation ratio which represents the annual available berthing days is depending on the efficiency of cargo handling work and this depends on the motion of the moored vessel due to the wave action and the characteristics of cargo gears. The motion of moored vessel might be related not only to the wave height but also to wave period. Furthermore, the berth operation ratio relies on external forces such as currents and winds, including the characteristics of mooring system and the specification of the moored vessel. In this study we only deal with berth operation ratio in normal sea state, considering wave and current by measured data and numerical calculation. Especially we tried to evaluate the berth operation ratio for each berth adopting the variation of dredging and reclamation plan and the change of wave environment during the process of the new port construction. For better understanding and analysis of wave transformation process, we applied the steady state spectral wave model and extended mild-slope wave model to the related site. This study summarizes comparisons of harbor responses predicted by two numerical predictions obtained at Busan New port site. Field and numerical model analysis was conducted for the original port plan and the final corrected plan.

  • A tugboat (tug) is a boat that maneuvers vessels by pushing or towing them. Tugs move vessels that should not move themselves alone, such as ships in a crowded harbor or a narrow canal, or those that cannot move themselves, such as barges, disabled ships, or oil platforms. Tugboats are powerful for their size and strongly built, some are ocean-going. Historically tugboats were the first seagoing vessels to receive steam propulsion, freedom from the restraint of the wind, and capability of going in any direction. As such, they were employed in harbors to assist ships in docking and departure. Towage is in essence a service by one vessel to another vessel for a fixed remuneration. The most common reason for requiring this service is the lack of its own motive power. Conventionally, towage is defined as "the employment of one vessel to expedite the voyage of another, when nothing more is required than the accelerating of her progress". Apart from accelerating vessels, acquiring towage service is a common practice for towing barges, platform of drilling oil, floating ship yards, etc.

Port Performance of Fully Automated Container Terminal on the COVID Pandemic (코로나 팬데믹에서 완전자동화항만의 성과 비교 연구)

  • The recent spread of the corona pandemic and a temporary surge in demand for consumer goods have resulted in an increase in port cargo volume, and the resulting port congestion is coupled with a shortage of labor in the port, exacerbating the global supply chain chaos. Supply chain disruptions will increase logistics costs and ultimately increase global inflationary pressures. In this situation, the role of the port, which is the nodal point between land and sea, is gradually becoming more important. And fully automated ports that are operated unmanned are evaluated as being able to respond stably and flexibly by reducing operational risks in situations such as COVID-19. Therefore, this study compared the operational performance of fully automated and non-fully automated terminals within the same port before and after the corona outbreak, and analyzed the fully automated terminal was stable in actual operation. As a result of the analysis, the fully automated terminal showed stable operating efficiency in all aspects of operational performance compared to the non-fully automated terminal even under severe port congestion due to COVID-19.

  • 항만건설에 있어서 항만의 내부시설 중에서 무엇보다도 가장 중요한 시설물은 선박을 안전하게 접안시켜 하역할 수 있는 안벽시설물이다. 안벽구조 형식의 결정은 항만의 이용목적 등에 따라서 달라지지만 항만의 건설입지조건 등에 의해서도 달라진다. 안벽구조형식 중에서 잔교 식 안벽은 무엇보다도 단기간에 건설이 용이하여 지금까지 각국에서 널리 사용되어 왔고 장래에도 이용도가 증가되리라 생각한다. 최근에는 해안선을 이용한 위락시설이 건설되면서 잔교 식 안벽구조물을 설치하여 보조시설물로 이용하는 경우가 많다. 과거에 설계되어 잔교를 설계할 경우는 일반적으로 항내의 정온이 잘 유지되는 경우에 대해서 설치하는 경우가 많기 때문에 파랑에 의한 반사율과 잔교 상부에 작용하는 양압력을 고려해야할 필요성이 거의 없었다. 그러나 최근에는 태풍이 내습할 경우 기존의 항내로 높은 파랑이 침입하는 경우가 발생하고 있어 항내에서도 잔교의 파괴로 인한 자연재해가 대형화되는 경우가 발생하고 있다. 또, 처음부터 안벽을 설계할 때에 대형화의 잔교 식 안벽구조물을 설치하는 경우도 있다. 이런 잔교 식 안벽 구조물을 잔교의 상부 판에 작용하는 양압력 분포와 잔교 전면의 반사율 등이 구조물의 유지관리 등에 미치는 영향이 매우 크기 때문에 반사율 검토와 양압력을 고려한 설계가 필요하다. 본연구의 대상은 일정 해역에 잔교 식 안벽을 설계하고자 할때 최적의 안벽 설계가 될 수 있도록 수리모형실험을 실시하여 구조물의 안전과 항내정온에 기초가 되는 자료를 도출하고자 하였다. 따라서 본 수리모형실험으로 인한 연구는 잔교 식 안벽에 대한 반사율과 상부에 작용하는 양압력, 잔교말뚝(pile)에 작용하는 수평압력을 검토하여 잔교 식 안벽 설계에 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 혈청을 이용한 동결보존을 대체할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.지에 더해주면 세포의 증식이 개선될 것이다. 그래서 몇 가지 첨가물을 이용해 세포의 증식력에 변화가 나타나는지 알아보았다. 첨가물을 이용한 실험에서 IGF-I의 경우 장기간 배양에서 세포의 수를 안정적으로 유지하고 계대 횟수를 증가시키는 효과를 보였다. 이는 IGF-I이 어느정도 세포의 증식을 유지시켜주는 역할을 하기 때문인 것으로 생각된다. 무혈청 배지에서 비적응 CHO 세포의 계대 배양에 한계가 있는 것은 세포주기가 멈추기 때문인 것으로 생각된다. 세포주기가 멈추는 growth factor와 같이 세포의 증식을 지속적으로 유도할 수 있는 물질이 무혈청 배지에서는 부족하기 때문인 것으로 생각되고, IGF-I과 같은 첨가물을 통해 극복할 수 있는 문제라고 여겨진다.관점과 주거교육가치관 요소와의 관계를 알아본 결과, 전통적 관점은 주거교육가치관 요소 중 오직 주거관리적 요소와 관계가 있었으나 그 정도는 낮으며 실천적 관점과 구조적 관점은 주거가치관의 각 요소에 따라 약간 다르기는 했으나 주로 보통의 관계를 보였다.군 순으로 높게 관찰되었다. 이상의 결과를 종합할 때, 임상에서 니켈-티타늄 합금 와이어에 굴곡을 부여하기 위해 열처리하는 경우 초탄성 특성은 유지될 수 있으나, 부하-변위 곡선의 상방 증가가 나타나므로, 와이어에 의한 교정력이 증가될 수 있음에 유의하여야 한다. $day^{-1}$인 인공습지), scenario 2(면적 4.2ha인 저류지)가 각각 연평균 6.9%, 4.8%, 7.1%의 감소를 보였다.   • Recently, import supply of glass eels from Philippines has been increased in South Korea, and the species distinction was very important to import traders and Anguilla marmorata and A. bicolor pacifica are major species at Philippines. In this study, the species distinction and the rate were researched targeting imported glass eels from the estuaries of North Luzon and the South Mindanao in May and July, 2014. Dorsal fin position and pigmentation pattern at caudal fin are the trait standard for species distinction. The results about morphological identification were coincide with the result of the genetic identification, and the regional distribution of A. marmorata rate was over 90% at North Ruzon in May. However, the rates of A. bicolor pacifica and A. mamorata were 63.3% and 36.7% in May, and were 53.3% and 46.7% in July respectively at South Mindanao.

A Study on the Optimal Service Level of Exclusive Container Terminals (컨테이너 전용부두의 최적 서비스 수준에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzes the optimal service levels of exclusive container terminals in terms of the optimal berth occupancy rate and the ships' waiting ratios, based on the number of berths. We develop a simulation model using berth throughput data from pier P, Busan New Port, a representative port in Korea, and apply the simulation results to different numbers of berths. In addition to the above results, we analyze the financial data and costs of delayed ships and delayed cargoes for the past three years from the viewpoints of the terminal operation company (TOC), shipping companies, and shippers to identify the optimal service level for berth occupancy rates that generate the highest net profit. The results show that the optimal levels in the container terminal are a 63.4% berth occupancy rate and 10.6% ship waiting ratio in berth 4,66.0% and 9.6% in berth 5, and 69.0% and 8.5% in berth 6. However, the results of the 2013 study by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries showed significantly different optimal service levels: a 57.1% berth occupancy rate and 7.4% ship waiting ratio in berth 4; 63.4% and 6.6% in berth 5; and 66.6% and 5.6% in berth 6. This suggests that optimal service level could change depending on when the analysis is performed. In other words, factors affecting the optimal service levels include exchange rates, revenue, cost per TEU, inventory cost per TEU, and the oil price. Thus, optimal service levels can never be fixed. Therefore, the optimal service levels for container terminals need to be able to change relatively quickly, depending on factors such as fluctuations in the economy, the oil price, and exchange rates.

A Study on Construction of Barge Transportaion System between Incheon and Gaesung (인천-개성 항로 바지 수송시스템 구축에 관한 기초적 연구)

  • Recently, the transport quantity of goods between South and North Korea is rising rapidly by increasing of economical exchange between South and North Korea and growth of Gaeseoung industrial complex. In addition to a land transportation route, it is necessary to secure various logistics and transportation route for freight transportation between Incheon and Gaesung. In this paper, we investigated a construction of barge transportaion system between Incheon and Gaesung. The barge transportation system which has many merits such as a little initial investment and convenience of harbor loading/ unloading has been also used to transport freight widely in the EU and USA. Firstly, we investigated barge transport route, marine freight and barge fleet which consists of barge and pusher between Incheon and Gaesung. And next, we designed hull form and general arrangement of a barge and pusher based on shipping service condition, barge fleet, etc. Finally, a construction plans of barge transport system such as a operation of shipping service, berthing facilities, logistics center, intermodal transport are investigated.

Path-following Control for Autonomous Navigation of Marine Vessels Considering Disturbances (외력을 고려한 선박의 자율운항을 위한 경로추종 제어)

  • Path-following control is considered as one of the most fundamental skills to realize autonomous navigation of marine vessels in the ocean. This study addresses with the path-following control for a ship in which there are environmental disturbances in the directions of the surge, sway, and yaw motions. The guiding principle and back-stepping method was utilized to solve the ship's tracking problem on the reference path generated by a virtual ship. For path-following control, error dynamics is one of the most important skills, and it extends to the research fields of automatic collision avoidance and automatic berthing control. The algorithms for the guiding principles and error variables have been verified by numerical simulation. As a result, most error variables converged to zero values with the controller except for the yaw angle error. One of the most interesting results is that the tracking errors of path-following control between two ships are smaller than the existing safe passing distances considering interaction forces from near passing ships. Moreover, a trade-off between tracking performance and the ship's safety should be considered for determining the proper control parameters to prevent the destructive failure of actuators such as propellers, fins, and rudders during the path-following of marine vessels.

A Study on Automatic Operation Control of Autonomous Ships (자율운항선박의 운항 자동제어 기초 연구)

  • In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the interest in autonomous ship technology is increasing as high-tech technologies are being increasingly utilized throughout the industry. Therefore, we conducted a basic study on autonomous ships. In particular, a passenger ship model was produced and an autonomous navigation system was established by applying the ardupilot used for drones. The possibility of automatic control of the autonomous ship operations was confirmed by executing various voyage plans using the built model ship. In the performance test for maintaining the course the model ship could not follow the designated course straight and sailed up to 5.4 m away from the course while navigating in a zigzag (S-shape); however, after the parameters were modified, the deviation distance was reduced to a maximum of 1.8 m. In the turning performance test, the maximum diameter of the turning sphere was found to be approximately 9.3 m, but no significant change could be confirmed even after the parameters were modified. However, the results of our tests on slowing down the ship before arriving at the WP confirmed that the diameter of the turning sphere was reduced to a maximum of approximately 3.2 m. In order to evaluate the stopping performance, the last scheduled stopping position of all experiments was compared with the actual stopping position of the model ship and it was confirmed that the model ship stopped at a point at least 0.4 m and a maximum of 6.2 m away from the stopping position. In the future, improvement of course stability, turning performance, and stopping performance is required through modification and supplementation of various parameters. Moreover, a study on automatic berthing of the model ship through automatic control is planned.
