This study has surveyed the professors and graduate students of school of medicine at K university, to analyze the medical library users' service quality perceptions on electronic journals and their effects on the customer satisfaction. Two groups of faculty members and graduate students has statistically significant different perceptions on the service quality of electronic journals. Among four sub-dimensions of service quality, there are no statistically significant differences in the perceptions between two groups in convenience of use, accessability, and content resources, but there is significant differences in supportiveness between two groups. In the perceptions on the satisfaction and value, faculty group has significantly higher perceptions on both of them. The most influential dimension of the service quality of the electronic journal for the perception on the satisfaction is supportiveness followed by convenience of use and content resources. Moderating effect of value on service quality, its sub-dimensions, and satisfaction is not proved statistically.

The purpose of this study is to suggest ways to improve medical librarians' educational programs to improve domestic medical library user services. To this end, the role of medical librarians was investigated, and the education areas were itemized, and then the MLA in the US and the KMLA in Korea were compared and analyzed. As a result, the improvement points for medical librarian education programs in Korea are: First, expansion of certification programs that select various types of education programs, education areas, education contents, and specialized fields, collaboration programs with related institutions, and education programs that advocate the value of KMLA are required. Second, there is a need for various educational programs in the current educational areas, such as 'research support service' and 'education/education design/consultation'. In particular, it is necessary to provide 'consumer health information service' and 'disaster information service' for which there is no education at all. In addition, it is necessary to precede the establishment of regulations on the domestic medical librarian education curriculum for the education of various 'information services in the field related to medicine'. Third, it is necessary to provide online education contents for librarians who have difficulty participating in face-to-face education.

본 연구는 국내외 도서관의 소셜네트워크 서비스 현황을 살펴보고, 노드엑셀을 이용한 네트워크 분석 기법을 통해, 도서관 소셜미디어 활용도에 대해 조사하였다. 국내에서 소셜미디어 홍보를 제일 적극적으로 하고 있는 P대학의 트위터를 노드엑셀을 통해 매개중심성으로 분석해 본 결과 상위 파워트위터리안들을 알 수 있었으며, 추후 도서관 마켓팅에서 핵심이용자로 적극 관리할 필요성이 있음을 보여주고 있다. 홈페이지 이용도는 국내 의과대학 중 의학도서관 홈페이지상에 데이터베이스로 직접 URL 연동되어 있는 K대학 홈페이지를 보손(Voson)과 노드엑셀 네트워크 분석방법을 이용하여 분석해 본 결과, 상업출판사외에 NDSL이 가장 상위로 랭크되어 홈페이지의 활용도가 높음을 알 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study is to suggest implications from the case of health information service for patients in overseas hospital libraries. A total of 89 overseas hospital libraries were selected, including general hospitals, specialized hospitals, women's hospitals, children's hospitals, and veterans' hospitals. The health information service that is provided in general and common in 89 hospital libraries was surveyed and the differentiated health information service was investigated next. As a result, first, it can be seen that the establishment of hospital libraries and the provision of health information services are common outside of Korea. Second, various human resources such as librarians, health information specialists, medical specialists, social workers, clinical librarians, health education specialists, and volunteers are utilized. Third, it provides not only print materials but also various information sources such as electronic materials, websites, pamphlets, brochures, and provides health information in various languages. Fourth, in providing health (information literacy) education and programs, services are provided through linkage with hospitals, local public libraries, and local communities. The implications for domestic hospital libraries are as follows: First, the change of awareness of the establishment of hospital libraries and the provision of health information services; second, the support of the curriculum and associations and the need for continuing education; third, it is necessary to link with related organizations for mandatory and diversification of health information services in hospital libraries.

This study searched for the status of medical Systematic Review(SR) publications in Korea and elsewhere for last 10 years, closely analyzing SR research papers by co-authors of Korean librarians. Through interviews with Korean librarians participating in SR, the activities, roles, and difficulties of these librarians were identified, and the results of the interviews helped explore new ways to promote collaboration in SR research. The result of the studied showed that the number of domestic and foreign SR studies has recently increased, and the number of cases where Korean librarians participated in SR research being officially credited as a co-author or acknowledgment source was also grow. The SR librarians in the Korean medical libraries were not only search experts, data collectors, and reference writers, but also did various activities such as designing search strategies, SR search records with complete reproducibility, and DB search tutorship. To promote SR support librarians participated in the interview suggested recruiting new librarians, retraining current librarians, and reformation courses in library and information science. As it is expected that the level of information demand of users and expectations for librarians would also increase in near future, SR librarians' activities and contributions seem to offer a guideline for academic library services that the others should pursue.

The purpose of this study is to explore practical methods of interlibrary loan system, linked with information retrieval system. The process and current status of interlibrary loan was investigated and analyzed at medical libraries in this study. In order to find the way of utilizing data from information retrieval and document request at the same time, the author tries to develop a way of linking PubMed, Union Catalog and ILL system. This study shows that hit record of information retrieval was saved in type of MEDLINE, XMLJSGML and reused for document delivery services. It seems to be efficient that the maintenance of Union Catalog was managed by all of member libraries, and data were retrieved at server and client side at once. In addition, it was found that user information can be checked by the IP and ILL system can be used for requested document by the saved result.

Providing reliable and high quality information sources will be one of the basic skills of librarians in the future. Therefore, this study proposed evaluation criteria for health-related information sources based on a survey of public and medical librarians. As a result, a total of 21 items were selected as evaluation items, in three groups. The first, the health information content group, had 13 evaluation items, including accuracy, recency, medical expertise, regular updates, consideration of audience, objectivity, ease of understanding, plain (non-scientific or technical) language, completeness, relevance to the topic, verifiability, citation of information sources, and specification of precautions or warnings. The second group, the health-information sources group, had 5 evaluation items including clarity of health information for achieving its purpose, clarification of the responsibility of health information, compliance to the privacy policy, fairness of health information providers, and ethics of health information providers. The third group was the health-information website design group, and featured 4 evaluation criteria: ease of access, search capabilities, website ease of use, and query-response services.

In the development of a university library's collection, the concept of patron-driven acquisition refers to a collection strategy that addresses users' direct information needs. In this study, an analysis of ten years' worth of book requests by user types was conducted to understand the topic preferences for efficient collection devleopment in the university library. In collection development, identifying subject areas of users' requested books is necessary for librarians to identify key areas of collection development and establish balanced collection development policies. To identify the major subject areas for each user group, KDC (Korean Decimal Classification) subject classifications were used, and network analysis techniques were applied to investigate the relationships between book topics in detail. The analysis revealed that "social sciences" emerged as the major topic across all user groups. However, in the analysis of sub-topics, "medicine" and "psychology" were distinctively identified as the major subject areas for graduate students, setting them apart from other user groups. The result of the network analysis further indicated that undergraduate students showed unique topics such as civil service, job placement, and career, which were not observed as major topic clusters in other user groups. On the other hand, graduate students tended to concentrate on a few specialized subjects, forming distinct topic clusters in the analysis.

Science and technology information resources are major impetus for all research and development activities. Now countries around the world are seeking efficient and effective means to cope with the exponential growth of needs for science and technology information for research. In this context, it has been perceived vital to establish national infrastructures in order to extend the availability of world's science and technology information. In Korea, it has been a recurring issue to build a national science library to prevent knowledge colonization and to gain a competitive edge in the fields. It is essential to have one as a national information infrastructure to assume the role of developing a sustainable model for access to the world's science and technology information, providing permanent access to them. In this paper, therefore, some issues concerning building and managing a new national science library in Korea are examined. In doing so, the following details are dealt with in detail. First, the rationale behind building a national science library is described, Second, the functions and roles of the library are defined, Third, previous discussions and attempts to build a national science library are reviewed and analysed. Finally, possible problems and issues raised in relation to build a national science library are probed, and future directions are also suggested. In this process, the recent strategic plan for national science library, national agriculture library, and national medical library, and changing plan for Sejong city are taken into consideration as influencing factors.

Nowadays the information environment enables users to access the traditional library collection as well as various digital information resources. In this rapidly changing environment, the use of digital information resources such as web sites, data, and homepages has increased. In this research, highly-cited authors' research outcomes as well as the research outcomes of the people, who cited the highly-cited authors' works, were extracted then compared with information stored in the medical colleges' digital libraries and the academic information portals in the clinical medicine area by using the citation information provided by Essential Science Indicators from ISI Web of knowledge. Out of 10,000 authors,146 people's homepages, which present research outcomes, were analyzed. The research outcomes listed in the homepages included journal papers, monographs, conference proceedings, and lecture notes. About 15% of the journal papers, 32% of the monographs, 48% of the conference proceedings, and 100% of lecture notes were accessible only through the homepages. The research outcomes accessible from the homepages were almost analogous to the ones available through the medical college's digital libraries and the academic information portals. Therefore, the digital library collection will be improved and expanded quantitatively and qualitatively by collecting and using the information in the homepages of the prestigious researchers.
