  • To evaluate four different light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as potential attractants for Tyrophagus putrescentiae adults, attractiveness of blue (470 nm), green (520 nm), yellow (590 nm), and red (625 nm) LEDs were investigated at 20, 40, and 60 lx luminance intensity in LED-equipped Y-maze chamber and compared with the response to black light bulb (BLB), which is used in commercial traps. The BLB, the blue LED, the green LED, the yellow LED, and the red LED did not show the attractive to T. putrescentiae adults. These results suggested that four LEDs tested could not be used for environment-friendly control of T. putrescentiae adults.

  • Six insecticides, monocrotophos (24%, Lq), milbemectin (1%, Ec), tebufenpyrad (10%, Ec), propargite (30%, Wp), dicofol (42%, Ec), and fenpropathrin (5%, Ec) were studied for their $LC_{50}s$ to local two-spotted spider mite (TSSM) strains collected at apple orchards in Chungju, Kunwi and Sobo in Korea. Monocrotophos and fenpropathrin were not effective due to resistance development, but milbemectin, tebufenpyrad, dicofol and propargite were effective to TSSM. $LC_{50}$ values to TSSM strains showed the same distribution pattern among apple orchards. However, TSSMs from different apple orchard were clustered into different groups.

  • Dispersion pattern of the citrus red mite (CRM), Panonychus citri (McGregor) was determined to develop a monitoring method in the satsuma mandarin fields, Citrus unshiu L., in Jeju-do, during 1999 and 2000. CRM population was sampled by collecting leaves. Taylor's power law provided better description of mean-variance relationship for the dispersion indices compared to Iwao's patchiness regression. Slopes and intercepts of Taylor's power law from leaf samples did not differ among surveyed groves. Fixed-precision levels (D) of a sequential sampling plan were developed using Taylor's power law parameters generated from all motile stages of CRM in leaf sample. This sampling plan for leaf sample estimate was tested with resampling validation for sampling plan using 4 independent data sets. Resampling simulation analysis demonstrated that actual fixed-precision level values were better than desired D values of 0.20, 0.25 and 0.30. Required numbers for tree sampling at the density of more than 7 mites per tree were fewer than 18.

  • Tomato russet mite, Aculops lycopersici Massee (Acari. Eriophyidae) was recorded in Korea and their SEM observations, distribution, host range, development on different temperature, and chemical control method were studied. Tomato russet mite is a microscopic animal (134.9 $\mu\textrm{m}$) with 2 pairs of legs which had 4 rays of feathered craw. Infected leaf turn reddish brown, stem loss hair, become shiny or surface cross-cracked, and shoot wilted or shrunk. Surface of fruit around fruit stalk appeared rusted or cross-cracked. It was found in glass greenhouse at Buyeo and Yuseong in Chungnam Province, Pyeongchang in Gangwon Province, and Chilgok and Guryongpo in Gyeongbuk Province. Convolvulus, black nightshade, chinese lanternplant, eggp1ant, morning glory, petunia, potato, pepper, tobacco and tomato were confirmed as a host plant in inoculation test. It could develop at temperature around $15-30^{\circ}C$, it took 6-11 days from eggs to adult, higher temperature shorten its life cycle. Female lived longer than male and it lived as long as 12 days at 25-28"C. Among acaricides tested, fenazaquin and cypermethrin were most effective.tive.
