The inner side between HP stationary blades in #1 turbine of Nuclear Power Plant A is damaged by the FAC(flow assisted corrosion) which is exposed to moisture. For many years the inner side is repaired by welding the damaged part, however, FAC continues to deteriorate the original material of the welded blade ring. In this study, we have two stages to verify the integrity of stationary blade ring in nuclear power plant A. In the stage I, replication of blade ring is performed to survey the microstructure of blade ring. In the stage II, the stress analysis of blade ring is performed to verify the structural safety of blade ring. Throughout the two stages analysis of blade ring, the stationary blade ring had remained undamaged.

We compared the fatigue characteristics of weld metal with those of base metal, and not heat-treated with heat-treated. Also, we examined the influence of bead in a viewpoint of fatigue life. From the experimental results, it has been seen that the fatigue characteristics of welded specimens grinded the toe of bead are slightly better than not grinded. We have seen that the fatigue life is affected more by the stress concentration on the profile change in the weld toe rather than by residual stress influence, because heat-treated or not had almost no influence on the fatigue characteristics.
The fatigue test was carried out to evaluate the fatigue characteristics of the accelerated cooled (ACC) TMCP steel and its welded joint. From this study, it was confirmed that ACC TMCP steel has higher fatigue strength than conventional steels. After welding, however, the fatigue strength of ACC TMCP steel was deteriorated associated with HAZ softening when weld reinforcement was removed. On the other hand, with weld reinforcement, there is no effect of HAZ softening on the fatigue strength of welded joint because it is strongly dependant on the detail weld geometry i.e., stress concentration factor. Accordingly the fatigue strength of actual welded joint increases with decreasing the stress concentration factor of welded joint, regardless of HAZ softening.

A micromechanics model to describe the elastic behavior of fiber or whisker reinforced metal matrix composites was developed and the stress concentrations between reinforcements were investigated using the modified shear lag model with the comparison of finite element analysis (FEA). The rationale is based on the replacement of the matrix between fiber ends with the fictitious fiber to maintain the compatibility of displacement and traction. It was found that the new model gives a good agreement with FEA results in the small fiber aspect ratio regime as well as that in the large fiber aspect ratio regime. By the calculation of the present model, stress concentration factor in the matrix and the composite elastic modulus were predicted accurately. Some important factors affecting stress concentrations, such as fiber volume fraction, fiber aspect ratio, end gap size, and modulus ratio, were also discussed.

In this paper the vibrational behavior of a multi-packet blade system having a cracked blade is investigated. Each blade is assumed as a slender cantilever beam. The coupling stiffness effect that originates from either disc flexibility or shroud is considered in the modeling. Hybrid deformation variables are employed to derive the equations of motion. The flexibility due to crack, which is assumed to be open during the vibration, is calculated basing on a fracture mechanics theory. In the paper, the results of the change in modal parameters due to crack appearance are presented. The influence of the crack parameters, especially of the changing location of the crack is examined.

In a reciprocating compressor, the piston and connecting rod are important parts. Excess mechanical stress on these parts may cause damage, and broken parts are expensive and difficult to replace. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the mechanical stress affecting durability and longevity. The main purpose of this study was to identify locations of maximum stress on pistons and connecting rods. Based on dynamic calculation of the working process of a specific air compressor, an analysis of piston and connecting rod performance has been completed. A three-dimensional model for the air compressor's pistons and connecting rods was built separately, and FEM analysis of these components was carried out using a numerical method. The pistons were loaded by pressure which was changed according to crankshaft angle without thermal boundary conditions. The simulation results were used to predict and estimate stress concentration as well as the value of this stress on pistons and connecting rods. The maximum equivalent stress calculated are over 190 MPa on pistons and 123 MPa on connecting rods at crank angle $135^{\circ}$ and $225^{\circ}$ but these are under tensile yield strength. Besides, the calculated safety factors of connecting rods and pistons is higher than 1. Moreover, the results obtained can be used to provide manufacturers with references to optimize the design of pistons and connecting rods for reciprocating compressors.

Contrary to an intact rock, the jointed rock mass shows strain-dependent deformation characteristics (elastic modulus and damping ratio). The maximum elastic modulus of a rock mass can be obtained from an elastic wave-based exploration in a small strain level and applied to seismic analyses. However, the assessment and application of the non-linear characteristics of rock masses in a small to medium strain level ($10^{-4}{\sim}0.5%$) have not been carried out yet. A non-linear dynamic analysis module is newly developed for FLAC3D to simulate strain-dependent shear modulus degradation and damping ratio amplification characteristics. The developed module is verified by analyzing the change of the Ricker wave propagation. Strain-dependent non-linear characteristics are obtained from disks of cored samples using a rock mass dynamic testing apparatus which can evaluate wave propagation characteristics in a jointed rock column. Using the experimental results and the developed non-linear dynamic module, seismic analyses are performed for the intersection of a shaft and an inclined tunnel. The numerical results show that vertical and horizontal displacements of non-linear analyses are larger than those of linear analyses. Also, non-linear analyses induce bigger bending compressive stresses acting on the lining. The bending compressive stress concentrates at the intersection part. The fundamental understanding of a strain-dependent jointed rock mass behavior is achieved in this study and the analytical procedure suggested can be effectively applied to field designs and analyses.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of composite resin restorations on the stress distribution of notch shaped noncarious cervical lesion using three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA). Extracted maxillary second premolar was scanned serially with Micro-CT (SkyScan1072 ; SkyScan, Aartselaar, Belgium). The 3D images were processed by 3D-DOCTOR (Able Software Co., Lexington, MA, USA). ANSYS (Swanson Analysis Systems, Inc., Houston, USA) was used to mesh and analyze 3D FE model. Notch shaped cavity was filled with hybrid or flowable resin and each restoration was simulated with adhesive layer thickness ($40{\mu}m$) A static load of 500 N was applied on a point load condition at buccal cusp (loading A) and palatal cusp (loading B). The principal stresses in the lesion apex (internal line angle of cavity) and middle vertical wall were analyzed using ANSYS. The results were as follows 1. Under loading A, compressive stress is created in the unrestored and restored cavity. Under loading B, tensile stress is created. And the peak stress concentration is seen at near mesial corner of the cavity under each load condition. 2. Compared to the unrestored cavity, the principal stresses at the cemeto-enamel junction (CEJ) and internal line angle of the cavity were more reduced in the restored cavity on both load con ditions. 3. In teeth restored with hybrid composite, the principal stresses at the CEJ and internal line angle of the cavity were more reduced than flowable resin.
For the anchor bolts and brackets that fix the stone wall, which is an external finishing material, it is necessary to maintain the performance required for the mechanical structure from the initial design stage and secure high durability. For this, the design and safety evaluation in consideration of the load conditions are necessary, so the structural analysis applying the finite element analysis technique was performed as a method to verify durability. As a result of structural analysis for various shapes for optimal design, a reinforcing structure was added to alleviate the maximum stress generated at the rear part of the bracket in contact with the bolt. In addition, a reinforcing plate was additionally attached to the bracket to relieve the stress concentration of the L-shaped bracket to make the stress distribution uniform, so that the safety factor satisfies the standard conditions. In addition, the fatigue life analysis by cyclic load was performed, and the fatigue safety factor was analyzed. As a result, the durability was obtained.
