Development of Digital Controller and Monitoring System for UPS Inverter (UPS 인버터의 디지털 제어기 및 모니터링 시스템의 개발)

  • In this paper, a new fully digital control method for UPS inverter, which is based on the double control loop such as the outer voltage control loop and inner current control loop, is proposed. In the proposed control system, overshoots and oscillations due to the computation time-delay are compensated by explicit incorporation of the time-delay in the current control loop transfer function. The inner current control loop is adopted by an internal model controller. The internal model controller is designed to a second order deadbeat reference-to-output response which means that its response reaches the reference in two sampling time including computational time-delays. The outer voltage control loop employing P-Resonance controller is proposed. The resonance controller has an infinite gain at resonant frequency, and the resonant frequency is set to the fundamental frequency of the reference voltage in this paper. Thus the outer voltage control loop causes no steady state error as regard to both magnitude and phase. The effectiveness of the proposed control system has been verified by the simulation and experimental results respectively.

Preliminary Performance Analysis of Satellite Formation Flying Testbed by Attitude Tracking Experiment (자세추적 실험을 통한 인공위성 편대비행 테스트베드의 예비 성능분석)

  • This paper presents preliminary performance analysis of a satellite formation flying testbed, which is under development by Astrodynamics and Control Laboratory, Department of Astronomy, Yonsei University. A model reference adaptive controller (MRAC) with a first-order reference model is chosen to enhance the response of reaction wheel system which is subject to uncertainties caused by unmodelled dynamics and measurement noise. In addition, an on-line parameter estimation (OPE) technique based on the least square is combined to eliminate the effect of angular measurement noise by estimating the moment of inertia. Both numerical simulations and hardware experiments with MRAC support the effectiveness and applicability of the adaptive control scheme, which maintains the tracking error below $0.25^{\circ}$ for the entire time span. However, the high frequency control input generated in hardware experiment strongly suggests design modifications to reduce the effect of deadzone.

Propagation and Crosstalk Characteristic Analysis of Pulse Shaped Signals on the Coupled Microstrip Lines (결합 마이크로스트립 선로상의 펄스형태 신호의 전파 및 누화 특성 해석)

  • The propagation properties of various pulse signal types(square pulse, Gaussian pulse, trapezoid pulse, RF pulse) on coupled microstrip lines are investigated. Numerical integration technique which has its accuracy and is easily simulated, is used to obtain the time domain response of pulse signals. Frequency-dependent characteristics of coupled microstrip line is obtained using Jansen's approximate equation. The propagation properties of pulse signal on coupled microstrip lines is analyzed regarding to its geometric structure (relative permittivity ${varepsilon}_r$ substrate height h, strip width w of the microstrip line) and pulse width ${\tau}$ of signal pulse. The simulation results show that space between two lines is very significant parameter in pulse distortion in comparison of any other parameters. The results of this paper are compatible to the trade-off determination of relative permittivity, substrate height, strip width and pulse width of signal pulse when a design of MIC and MMIC is necessary.

A Smoke Detection Method based on Video for Early Fire-Alarming System (조기 화재 경보 시스템을 위한 비디오 기반 연기 감지 방법)

  • This paper proposes an effective, four-stage smoke detection method based on video that provides emergency response in the event of unexpected hazards in early fire-alarming systems. In the first phase, an approximate median method is used to segment moving regions in the present frame of video. In the second phase, a color segmentation of smoke is performed to select candidate smoke regions from these moving regions. In the third phase, a feature extraction algorithm is used to extract five feature parameters of smoke by analyzing characteristics of the candidate smoke regions such as area randomness and motion of smoke. In the fourth phase, extracted five parameters of smoke are used as an input for a K-nearest neighbor (KNN) algorithm to identify whether the candidate smoke regions are smoke or non-smoke. Experimental results indicate that the proposed four-stage smoke detection method outperforms other algorithms in terms of smoke detection, providing a low false alarm rate and high reliability in open and large spaces.

A fast transient control of EDPA gain on channel add/drop WDM networks (채널 가감 파장분할다중(WDM)망에서 EDFA 이득의 빠른 과도 응답 제어)

  • In this paper, we have shown the gain recovery time of erbium-doped fiber amplifier(EDFA) in WDM add/drop networks can be reduced to less than $3\mu$sec by employing disturbance observer technique with PID controller which is based on 3-level EBFA model. The $3\mu$sec transient time is the fastest one ever reported and it is about $1\%$ of $250\mu$sec previously obtained from disturbance observer technique with PI controller which was based on 2-level EDFA model and it is also less than $200\mu$sec of commercially available EDFAs for WDM networks. We were able to obtain this result by analyzing various system characteristics as we change the parameters of disturbance observer and PID controller. If this result is applied to a commercial product, the product will do an important role in the future dynamic WDM networks.

A simulation module to practice hydraulic mechanical governors and its adjustment characteristics for stability (유압기계식 거버너의 실습용 시뮬레이션 모듈과 안정도의 조정 특성)

  • Prime movers in engine rooms inherently are much affected by the adjustment of their governors for the steady state and transient properties, consequently requiring that marine engineers shall be well familiar with the way to manage governor dials for normal operation. The hydro-mechanical governors basically have different control characteristics and adjustment parameters of stability from digital governors. The former include compensation mechanism using dash pot while the control algorithm of the latter is usually based on the PID action. This study is for configuring a simulation module to let trainees practice how to adjust dials for stability on hydraulic governors in the view that the practice by real governors and engines is time consuming and high cost for operation. The governor module includes the adjusting points such as speed set, speed droop, needle valve and compensation pointer with engine module of $2^{nd}$ order coupled. The results of simulation showed satisfactory responses as a training tool for the adjustment of control parameters.

Predictive Current Control of a Grid-Connected Inverter with Grid Voltage Observer (계통전압 관측기를 이용한 계통연계형 인버터의 예측전류제어)

  • For a grid-connected inverter in distributed generation systems, the current control is essential, and recently, the predictive current control based on a high performance digital signal processors (DSP) to satisfy a fast dynamic response has been widely investigated. However, the performance of predictive current control is degraded by the time delay due to digital implementation, the parameter and measured value errors and the interference of noise, and also theses make system even unstable. Therefore, this paper proposes the predictive current control using grid voltage observer for grid-connected inverter applications. To determine the relevant voltage observer gain, the low-order harmonics of grid voltage are considered, and the effect of filter parameter errors is analyzed. The proposed method has a fast current response capability, the robustness to noise and simple implementation due to voltage sensorless control and the robust current control performance to low-order grid harmonics. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by simulation and experimental results.

Queueing Network Model for Large-scale Multimedia -On-Demand Service Systems with Unreliable Components (결함 발생을 고려한 대규모 주문형 멀티미디어 서비스 시스템의 큐잉 네트워크 모델)

  • 멀티미디어 서비스환경에서는 수백에서 수천의 클라이언트들이 하나의 서버에 접속되기 때문에 서버 결합이 미치는 영향이 상당히 크다. 이러한 결함은 단지 서버 자체의 장애로 끝나는 것이 아니라 그로 인해 서비스 제공자들에게 유형.무형의 막대한 재산상의 피해를 가져올수 있다. 본 논문에서는 멀티미디어 서버를 구성하고 있는 자원(프로세서, 디스크, 네트워크)의 결함 발생을 고려한 큐잉 네트워크 모델을 개발하였다. 복수개의 M/M/1 큐를 큐잉 네트워크로 연결하여, 각 자원에 대한 접근 및 서비스를 모델링하였으며, 각 자원에서의 서비스 시간 지연 비율(큐의 응답시간)의 조정을 통해서, 서버 자원의 결함 발생을 고려하였다. 고객 도착률과 자원 고장률 변동에 대한 서버 자원의 이용률과 큐의 길이를 구하여 효율적인 시스템 구성 자원의 부분별 용량을 산정하였으며 , 또한 데이터 패킷 응답 시간 분포 및 고장률 변화에 따른 시스템의 신뢰도 수준을 계산하였다. 이와 같은 서비스 시스템 성능에 관련된 파라미터 분석을 통하여 멀티미디어 데이터 서비스 수준 (Quality of Service)에 중요한 영향을 미치는 서버 설계 요소를 파악하였고, 시뮬레이터 패키지를 활용한 모의 실험을 통하여 개발된 큐잉 네트워크 모델의 정확성을 검증하였다.

  • An ultrasonic motor(USM) has good characteristics such as compact size, silent motion, high speed responce, low speed and high torque. The USM is driven by 2-phase AC electricity. The control parameters of USM are voltage, phase, and frequency of input powers, etc. In this paper, the fine elasticity and viscosity control with no force feedback can be implemented by a phase difference parameter. Experiment results show the change of torque with regard to elasticity and viscosity. Therefore the USM can be used as a micro-actuator in the automation field of the installation.

The accuracy of analyzing reverberation time (잔향 시간 분석의 정확도)

  • A large number of parameters have been defined in order to describe and to evaluate the acoustical propeTies in rooms. Reverberation time is an impoTant characteristic of conceT halls, theaters and studios, etc. Over the years, a number of different methods for measuring the reverberation time have been developed, the most common being: the interrupted noise method, the integrated impulse response method, and the method of recording the room response to an impulsive source. However, the reverberation time can be changed by the measurement method, sound source and microphone. Therefore, it is difficult to accurately measure the reverberation time in a room. In this paper, it will be analyzed the interpretation method of the reverberation time and discussed the limitations.
