Second, teachers who received FAP showed higher knowledge about first aid knowledge. Third, the type of FAP desired by the child care teachers showed the most favored type of whole practice. Fourth, the contents of FAP desired by child care teachers were CPR, airway obstruction, burn treatment and temperature related symptoms. In this study, FAP is needed in the process of child care teacher training. FAP should be practice-oriented education, and the contents of FAP should be structured based on the needs of child care teachers.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this research is to provide foundational data for reeducation concerning prehospital emergency care in order to improve the performance of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) working at 119 fire safety centers. Methods: Data were collected using a mail-in questionnaire developed by researchers from 288 subjects, who were EMTs working at 119 fire safety centers and local units in the Gwangju Metropolitan City and South Jeolla Province, from March 1, 2009 to April 31, 2009. Results: The mean score for EMTs' knowledge on drug intoxication was7.04 out of a total of 10 points. The mean score for EMT's attitude of emergency treatment performance on drug intoxication was 2.96 out of a total of 4 points. The level of EMT's knowledge is relatively high regarding prehospital care for drug intoxication. The EMT's attitude of performances demonstrated an understanding of the patients' conditions. However EMTs did not actively explain the prognosis and medical conditions for their patients. Conclusions: This research will contribute to making plans for reeducating emergency crew working at 119 fire centers so that can they have a more active attitude towards prehospital emergency medical care.

From September 2015 to May 2016, on the subjects of 175 Chinese international students, their first aid knowledge, education needs and self efficacy were identified using structured questionnaires. As a result, only 5.4% of Chinese international students received first aid education in Korea. Their knowledge of first aid was 0.16 points out of the total 1 point and self efficacy was 2.60 points out of the total 5 points. Also, the educational needs of the subjects were relatively high at 3.37 points out of the total 5 points. In conclusion, it is said that it is necessary to develop a first aid education program to raise the knowledge level and self efficacy of first aid for Chinese international students, and to meet their education needs. To increase the effectiveness of first aid training programs for Chinese international students, it is necessary to strengthen education contents of areas where knowledge and self efficacy were low and education needs were high in program development, and the group of subjects with low knowledge level and self efficacy are required to have special care and attention.

The purpose of this study were to assess the awareness of school nurses concerning the management of traumatized teeth and to determine if a lecture on dental trauma management could improve school nurses'knowledge on this topic. School nurses in Gwangju and Jeonnam province completed a questionnaire before and after the lecture on the first-aid knowledge with particular focus on the following three categories. Questionnaires are composed of questions asking general information and about knowledge and proper attitude in case of the specific situation on dental trauma. According to previous studies, school nurses' knowledge tended to be higher compared with the teachers. Improvement of knowledge in school nurse was observed in emergency actions, in visiting time, replantation, carriage method, vaccine prescription related with luxation, and in possibility of fragment reattachment related with subluxation and fracture. In conclusion, it is recommended that periodical education are needed for improvement of school nurses'knowledge on proper management of dental trauma emergency.

  • This study is a descriptive research that provides basic data to develop customized emergency education programs for strengthening the emergency coping ability of facility and group home caregivers. Data were collected from 7.10~8.15 in 2020 in the S and G areas. A total of 236 questionnaires were included for the analysis. Data were analyzed using χ2, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Approximately 68.9% facilities and 50.7% group homes experienced emergencies, and there was a significant difference (χ2=8.42, p=0.004). First aid personnel were nurses (nurse aides) 55.3% facility and 42.7% of facility directors group home, showing differences (χ2=27.84, p<.001). 56.5% and 68.0% in the facility and group home, first aid care : ice pack, medication, Heimrich in the facility and 119 and guardian call, ice pack, Heimrich for the group home. First aid knowledge was determined to be significantly different between the facilities (11.60±2.09) and group homes (9.08±2.28) (t=8.39, p<0.001). Similarly, the emergency coping abilities showed a significant difference (t=8.00, p<0.001) between facilities (52.94±5.27) and group homes (47.33±4.39). In addition, a positive correlation was established between the experience of emergency situations and the emergency coping ability in the facilities. Overall, our data indicates that the emergency experience, emergency knowledge, and emergency coping abilities of the facility and group home caregivers are significantly different. We propose that emergency education tailored to the characteristics of each institution is needed.

  • This study aimed to find out the difference in safety knowledge, ability for coping with emergency situations, and first aid awareness before and after introductory scuba diving training. From June 25 to August 30, 2021, data were collected from 86 people who agreed to the study and received introductory education from SSI (Scuba Schools International). Data analysis was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, and χ2-test using SPSS PC/26.0. As a result of the study, safety knowledge and ability to cope with emergency situations after training showed a statistically significant increase in all items, and first aid awareness increased after training in response to the items to be performed first according to the priority of the frequency analysis result. In addition, it was analyzed that the subjects who were well aware of the scuba diving safety rules had a statistically significantly higher safety knowledge and ability to cope with emergency situations. Therefore, considering the characteristics of scuba diving group education of college students, in order to participate in safe aquatic leisure activities, systematic education and institutional arrangements for safety knowledge and emergency response skills should be prepared from the introductory stage.

  • Objectives: To investigate the experience and competence of physicians providing emergency medical services at public health sub-centers on remote Korean islands. Methods: This study enrolled 79 doctors who work at public health sub-centers on remote Korean islands. Data were collected in December 2009 via self-administered e-mail questionnaires. The response rate was 44.3%. Results: Emergent situations occurred at most (58.68%) of the public health sub-centers that were surveyed in December 2009. An average of 1.92 cases required treatment by public health physicians. Only 20.25% of the physicians were specialists in emergency medicine, while the remainder were general practitioners (GPs) without clinical experience as emergency doctors. We also found that the physicians we surveyed had insufficient knowledge of emergency medical care. At some health centers only one doctor was available, and there was no medical team in holiday, although most of the physicians indicated that the ideal number of doctors per center was two or three. In cases of emergency, patients were often sent to the mainland by ship without receiving first-aid treatment. The public health sub-centers lacked the necessary medical equipment to save lives in emergencies and lacked escort systems for emergency patients. Conclusions: The Korean government should address the importance of providing emergency care in remote areas. Health administrators should provide suitable manpower, medical equipment, guidelines for emergency medicine, and education for public health physicians on remote islands.
