  • The overall noise reduction was compared in regard to the vibrational characteristics of floor impact noise in a multi story residential building which has several noise reduction treatments. The vibration through its structural elements such as wall, floor and ceiling and sound emitting were investigated for each insulation treatment. It was found that, in case of heavy-weight impact noise, the vibration energy is emitted mostly from ceiling, but for the light-weight impact noise, most of the energy comes through ceiling and walls. • This study investigates the vibro-acoustic characteristics of an automotive brake drum given free boundaries using the hybrid approach combining numerically obtained structural properties with analytical solution for acoustic radiation. Structural vibrations of the drum are investigated with the finite element method, and modal displacements on the outer surfaces of the drum are idealized as simple mathematical expressions. Based on the expressions, modal sound radiations of the drum are calculated using the Rayleigh integral method. Structural and acoustic responses of the drum for a harmonic excitation are obtained from above results using the modal expansion technique. The results are confirmed with numerical analyses using the boundary element method. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the vibro-acoustic characteristics of a brake drum can be accurately investigated with the process used in this study. Also, many noise and vibration problems in drum brake can be addressed using the procedure proposed in this study.

  • It is well known that the major noise source of Refrigerator is compressor, and due to the tendency of higher quality and more lighting of manufactured goods, the importance of prevention and reduction of a noise is increasing. In this paper, in order to prevent and reduce such a noise, sound pressure level and acoustic intensity are measured for compressor, and the result of these measurements, the noise radiation characteristics of compressor are reconized. And the experimental modal analysis is applied to the compressor to identify the noise sourcce. As the results of this study, we come to know that the spring, which is used to reduce vibration, does not reduce vibration efficiently, and compressor shell and its mounting system effect the noise radiation.

  • In this paper, contribution analysis method using a partial coherence function is dealt with in the case of underwater radiation noise. When performing the contribution analysis using a partial coherence function, it is important to select the order of system input. But in the case of frequency correlated systems, it is very difficult to properly select the order of system input. In order to solve this problem, the contribution analysis is performed by subdividing the area of contribution using multiple coherence function. And the new contribution analysis method is presented by using the relationship between the contribution characteristic matrix and multiple coherence function. In order to validate the new method, calculation is performed about multi-input / single-output model which is composed of sine waves. The result of calculation shows that it is possible to derive the exact contribution values.

  • The effectiveness of Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripter(ESWL) for the therapy of calculus has been generally known in the field of urology. However, there are very little paper investigated about physical characteristics of sounds radiated when phantom is shotting with shock waves. Therefore, this paper, firstly, investigates the sounds radiated when impact is applied to the phantom with a single shot by an impact hammer and a clinical ESWL Next, it determines the variance of the sounds radiated during the breaking process using a piece of chalk as a phantom of a calculus. These results will be applied to the examination of the existence of the calculus at the focus and the monitoring the breaking process.

  • In this paper, a post-processing algorithm to suppress reverberation for continuous-wave active sonar system is developed. The developed algorithm is designed for a low-doppler environment where the target echo is not distinguishable from the reverberation. The algorithm is developed based on overlapping nonnegative matrix factorization method. The algorithm analyzes the frequency characteristics of transmitting ping signal, then suppresses the reverberation using time-frequency characteristics of the received signal. Simulations performed in order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, and the results show that the proposed algorithm makes 6 dB signal-to-reverberation ratio enhancement in various reverberation energy conditions.

  • Acoustic radiation efficiency is one of the important factors in the prediction of underwater radiated noise of ships. A ship has much equipment to operate successful mission in a ship. Most of equipment is running simultaneously as multi-excitation and becomes the source of underwater radiated noise. In many cases of multi-excitation, phase difference between multi-excitation is not considered. Because vibration response under multi-excitation is the vector sum of each single excitation, acoustic radiation efficiency based on surface velocity field can be affected by phase of excitation. In this study, acoustic radiation efficiency of a plate on air and a stiffened cylindrical model in water under multi-excitation with phase difference is investigated.

  • The present study aims to investigate the design standard for acoustic criteria of Korean traditional music which could be used for the design of Korean traditional music halls. In order to do this, subjective listening tests were undertaken to musicians using auralized sounds which were convolved with the impulse response of traditional instruments recorded in an anechoic chamber. 94 pairs of sound were made which have different value of acoustic parameters including RT, BR, Brilliance, G, C80, ITDG, IACC. A paired comparison method(PCM) was used to analyze the results from the subjective listening tests. The results show that the preference of acoustic criteria for the Korean traditional music is far different from those of western music. As a result, specific range of acoustic criteria were suggested for the appropriate acoustic conditions of Korean traditional music. Also, a guideline of the acoustic design of halls for performing the Korean traditional music was suggested which could be used as a basic reference in the future works.

  • This paper descrived housing design in conception of dynamic characteristics. The vibration and noise in power train system of automobile are important on the environment matter. The vibration caused by meshing teeth of gear is transmitted to the gear box faces through shafts and bearings. Shape of housing is used different radius of curvature(R=0 to 80 mm). The velocity responese, sound power and radiation efficency on the surface of gear box are calculated. The sound power and radiation efficency are compared with different radius of curvature.
