  • AE technique was applied to the static structural test of the composite wing structure to evaluate the structural integrity and damage. During the test, strain and displacements measurement technique were used to figure out for static structural strength. AE parameter analysis and source location technique were used to evaluate the internal damage and find out damage source location. Design limit load test, the 1st and 2nd design ultimate load tests and fracture test were performed. Main AE source was detected by an sensor attached on skin near by front lug. Especially, at the 1st design ultimate test, strain and displacements results didn't show internal damage but AE signal presented a phenomenon that the internal damage was formed. At the fracture test, AE activities were very lively, and strain and displacements results showed a tendency that the load path was changed by severe damage. The internal damage initiation load and location were accurately evaluated during the static structural test using AE technique. It is certified from this paper that AE technique is useful technique for evaluation of internal damage at static structural strength test.

  • The field application of acoustic emission(AE) testing for brand-new metal pressure vessel were performed. We will introduce the test procedure for acoustic emission test such as instrument check distance between sensors, sensor location, whole system calibration, pressurization sequence, noise reduction and evaluation. The data of acoustic emission test contain many noise signal, these noise can be reduced by time filtering which based on the description of observation during AE test.

  • Articulation test is a good predictor of spatial speech transmission quality. Like many other languages, articulation testing method using Korean language was proposed in 1989, and which was proved as a valid indicator in rooms with static background noise. In this paper, the testing method is examined in variable noise conditions. According to the experiment performed in 26 classrooms with variable background noise, the proposed articulation testing method using Korean Language is still in variable conditions.

  • Lift off acoustic loads of KSLV-I were predicted by the modified NASA SP-8072 source distribution method (method 2) and the result was compared with those of measurements in the flight test of KSLV-I. In the second flight test, lift off acoustic loads were measured by outer microphones attached on the cable mast. The onboard data measuring outer acoustic pressure at the interstage of KSLV-I also can be obtained. The predicted result showed very similar peak and the shape of spectrum when compared with the measured spectrum and a margin about +7 dB.

  • As a part of development process of the COMS, an acoustic vibration test was performed in order to verify that the COMS is safe from the acoustic loads coming from the Ariane-5ECA launch vehicle when it is launched. In this paper, the acoustic vibration test preparation which was performed during the development of the COMS is explained, and through the evaluation of the test results, it was verified whether the COMS is safe from the acoustic load that the COMS will experience during the launch. Through detail evaluation of the acoustic loads on the solar array, Ka band communication payload antenna and feed, GOCI(Geo-Stationary Ocean Color Imager), MI(Meteorological Imager), it was confirmed that the COMS is safe from the acoustic loads from launch vehicle.

  • Damage Profess of CFRP laminates under monotonic tensile test was characterized by the correlation between Acoustic Emission(AE) and Ultrasonic Test(UT). The amplitude distribution of AE signal from a specimens is an aid to the determination of the extent of the different fracture mechanism such as matrix crack, debonding, fiber pullout and fiber fracture as load is increased. In addtion, the characteristics of ultrasonic amplitude attenuation are useful lot analysis of the different type of fracture mechanism. Different orientation of carbon fiber reinforced plastic specimens were used to investigate the AE amplitude range and ultrasonic amplitude attenuation. Finally, loading-unloading tests were carried out to check Felicity effect. During the tests, ultrasonic amplitude attenuation was investigated at the same time and compared with AE parameters. The result showed that two parameters of both AE and UT could be effectively used for analysis of fracture mechanism in CFRP laminates.

  • An instrumented pod has been developed to measure the aeroacoustic environment as well as the conventional data such as load, vibration, and aerodynamic heating of fighters during flight tests, confirming to the recently developed external pod design for fighters. This study presents the development of the measurement system in detail, being the first indigenous effort in its kind. The pod was designed to meet the requirements of the MIL-HDBK-1763 and MIL-STD-810 Method 515, which are the base to determine the locations and range of sensors. The Endevco 8510B-2 was selected as the sensor to withstand the harsh environment during the flight tests. In order to assess the integrity of the fabricated pod design, a ground run-up test of a KF-16 has been conducted with the pod installed at Station 5. The test results show that the system works well but the sound level exceeds the predetermined sensor range. The sensor range has been readjusted for flight test performed later.

  • An acoustic emission technique is applied to the tensile tests of the plastic specimen under the different test speeds and the structural integrity evaluation of the plastic shell structure. Several AE characteristics are acquired from the tensile tests and they are proven to be useful parameters in evaluating its structural integrity. The results shows that tensile strength has almost constant value over some higher speed region while revealing some increasing tendency in strength as the test speeds up in lower speed region. The crack initiation loads and locations are accurately evaluated during the static compression testing of the plastic shell structures by using acoustic emission technique.
