For the production of biodegradable polymers from microorganisms a bacterial strain producing a biopolymer was isolated from soil. The bacteriological characteristics of this strain and physicochemical Properties of the biopolymer produced were investigated. The bacterial strain was identified as an alkalophilic Alcaligenes sp. The Purified biopolymer treated with cetylpridinium chloride and acetone was identified as an acidic biopolymer having carboxyl groups and showed strong UV absorbance (at 210nm). The biopolymer was composed of 100% glutamic acid and glutamic acid existed as $\gamma$-polyglutamic acid($\gamma$-PGA) in the form of the $\gamma$-peptide bond. The equivalent weight of this $\gamma$-PGA was estimated about 350, indicating that one acidic fraction per 2.7 residue of $\gamma$-polyglutamic acid existed. The molecular weight was $6.5{\times}10^5$ Daltons.

Non-toxic orgarnic inorgarnic complex green pigment using Fluidized Bed Vapor Deposition(FB-VD) process was developed to alternate green pigment used heavy metals chrome and lead in present domestic. Kaolin materials and $CaCO_3$ were used as supporter of pigment and surface and compositions of supporters were characterized by SEM and EDXS, respectively. Various kind of surface active agents(surfactants) were also used to optimize the dry condition or color revelation. Results showed that anion type surfactant is most suitable for dry and color revelation of pigment.
The variation of acidity, conductivity, and ion components in precipitation depending on the dominant wind direction was investigated from January, 2009 to December 2009 in Busan, Korea. Both southwesterly and northeasterly winds were dominant in Busan area. The volume-weighted mean acidity showed pH 7, and the high conductivity indicated 200 ${\mu}scm^{-1}$ in westerly wind. The volume-weighted mean equivalent concentration showed higher value of $K^+$ and $Cl^-$ in all wind directions. The composition ratio of $NO{_3}^-/SO{_4}^{2-}$ showed over 3 in northerly wind. The neutralization factors have been found to have higher value for potassium ion in northeasterly, easterly, southwesterly, and westerly winds compared with different wind directions, which indicated significant neutralization of acidic components over the region by potassium. Also, the concentration of sea salt has been found over 800 ${\mu}sm^{-3}$ in northeasterly and southwesterly winds. Air masses passing through Manchuria, Inner Mongolia plateau, China, and Russia in spring, autumn, and winter covered Busan, Korea in northerly, westerly, and northwesterly winds. However, air masses passing through the ocean in summer covered Busan, Korea in easterly, northeasterly, and southwesterly winds. Therefore, the variation of acidity, conductivity, and ionic components contained in precipitation shows each seasonal characteristics with prevailing wind systems between the continental and coastal area in Busan, Korea.

Background: It was to develop an air purification system (APS) using an underground air purification layer to verify the effect of basalt forest's underground air (sumgol) on a volcanic Jeju. Finally, it is necessary to analyze these purified air components and their usefulness to the human body in an air experience center. Purpose: It was to collect basalt forest air, analyze its composition, and explore its effect on the human body. Methods: We APS devices installed at four points in the Papaville area of Jeju. The air discharged from the APS was collected and analyzed the recycling components. An installed experience room filled with negative ions is about 5,000 ions/m3. After allowing the participants to stay for 60 to 120 minutes, we investigated the state of blood vessels. Results: In the analysis of the underground air, the O2 concentration was 21.18%, which was higher than the average oxygen concentration of 20.94% in the atmosphere. However, Formaldehyde was not detected, and the CO2 was 419 ppm, which was lower than that of indoor air. The PM2.5 concentration was less than 24 ㎍/m3 and detected anions over 5.000 /m3. The experiencer's vascular states improved, and the increase in pulse rate and stress relief were high. Conclusions: The valuable ingredients identified by analyzing the air were precious for natural healing. The experience results showed that it effectively improved the pulse rate, blood vessels, and stress. These conditions may be highly beneficial as a new area for expanding the basalt lava forest in the Jeju area into the natural healing and wellness industry.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the antioxidative and antiallergic effects of aronia extract. The aronia extract was tested for various antioxidative potentials (scavenging activity of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and superoxide anion radical) and inhibitory effect of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO) and cyclooxygenase (COX). In aronia extract, polyphenol content was $81.6{\pm}3.3\;mg/g$ and flavonoid content was $5.15{\pm}0.16\;mg/g$. DPPH radical-scavenging activity ($SC_{50}$) of aronia extract was $6.15{\pm}0.343\;ppm$. $SC_{50}$ value of aronia extract against superoxide anion radical was $6.99{\pm}1.28\;ppm$. In addition, $IC\_{50}$ values of aronia extract against 5-LO, COX-1, and COX-2 were $42.07{\pm}0.15\;ppm$, $24{\pm}4.29\;ppm$, and $24.3{\pm}3.5\;ppm$, respectively. These results suggest that aronia extract may be useful for the prevention or treatment of allergic disease.

This study was conducted to investigate vertical movement properties of water quality or chemical composition in three different forest stands (Pinus koraiensis, Larix leptolepis and Quercus spp. stands) in Gwangju-gun and Gyunggi-do. The results were as follows ; The pH range of precipitation was 4.62 ~ 6.72, and the average pH showed 5.74. The relationship of pH among throughfall, stemflow and precipitation showed difference of buffering capacity in tree species. According tree species, acided stemflow and alkalized stemflow had the characteristic value. In three stands, changes of the pH in early rain were larger than those of succeeding rain, except October 1998 and April 1999. Early rain influenced the cation in the acidity and concentration, but succeeding rain influenced the anion such as S $O_{4}$$^{2-}$, N $O_{3}$$^{[-10]}$ , C $l^{[-10]}$ etc. And anion components exist with gas type and minute particles, as a result, succeeding rain influenced to chemical properties by the sustaining washout.

Soluble polysaccharide (SP) from green layer, Enteromorpba prolifera was extracted 3 times with distilled water at 100$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs and fractionated with cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) and ion exchange chromatography (DEAE Separose CL-6B). The SP amounted to $23.7\%$ of the dry seaweed weight and contained $68.8\%$ carbohydrate. It was mainly constituted of rhamnose, glucose, xylose, sulfate and uronic acid and was fractionated with CPC into three (CPC-S, CPC-PS, CPC-PP) tractions. The major acid fraction CPC-PS accounted for $10.2\%$ of the dry algal weight. CPC-PS was further fractionated on DEAE Sepharose CL-6B into Fr-1 ($8.0\%$), Fr-2 ($35.8\%$), Fr-3 ($23.7\%$) fractions. The Fr-3 fraction contained $2.2\%$ protein, $21.4\%$ sulfate, $15.3\%$ uronic acid, and $72.4\%$ polysacchnrides composed of rhamnose, xylose and glucose. The Fr-2 fraction, which was richer in uronic acid ($17.5\%$) and poorer in sulfate ($19.0\%$) and total sugar ($68.8\%$) than the Fr-3, had a sugar composition close to that of Fr-3. The average molecular weights of Fr-2 and Fr-3 were 510,000 and 830,000 daltons, respectively. Fr-3 turned out to be homogeneous by cellulose acetate electrophoresis.

Dispersants, which are used to break water-in-oil emulsions and to remediate oil-spills, are another water pollutants. In this study, magnetic separation technology was applied to remove dispersants from the sea. Magnetite and maghemite were used as magnetic sorbents and SDDBS, an anionic surfactant and Triton X-100, a nonionic surfactant, were employed as dispersants. Batch experiments were undertaken to study the sorption capacity and sorption equilibrium, and water-bath experiments were conducted to simulate the real situation and to describe the recovery of magnetic particles by the permanent magnet or electromagnet. Maghemite has rather constant removal efficiency for dispersants, regardless of surfactant species. On the other hand, removal efficiency by magnetite is higher for anionic surfactant than maghemite and is higher in distilled water than in seawater which contains more ions. The sorption of dispersants to magnetite is explained by electrostatic attraction and that of maghemite is described not only by electrostatic attraction, but also by structural characteristics that provide high sorption ability and surface condition. Water bath experimental results showed that recovery efficiency of magnetic particle after sorption for dispersants is nearly 100%. It is suggested that this magnetic separation technology is an effective way of dispersant removal because of short operating time, high sorption capacity, and high recovery efficiency of sorbents.
In this research, the processing control of NiCuZn Ferrite has been developed. The mixing and the size reduction of raw materials have been proceeded. In order to produce NiCuZn Ferrite, highly concentrated slurry with fixed ratio and wet ball milling were used. First, the dispersion behavior of raw mixture at the region of pH4~pH11 has been studied. Using wet ball milling operation, the best conditions of mixing and size reduction have been determined. Further more, the most suitable conditions, such as, dispersant kind, dispersant amount, milling time, and slurry concentration have been studied. The poly acrylic ammonium salt (PAN) was chosen as a suitable dispersant to have effective dispersion in basic region. The slurry of raw mixture without dispersant, showed high viscosity and poor grindability. As 0.7 wt% of PAN was added, the concentrated slurry (up to 55 vol%) was possible, and showed well grindability. After 18 h ball milling of 30 vol% of mixture slurry with 0.7 wt% of PAN, the average particle size and specific surface area of raw mixture were $0.54\mu\textrm{m}$ and $12.92m^{2}/cc$, respectively. The ball milled raw mixture, calcined at $700^{\circ}C$ for 3h, was totally changed into NiCuZn Ferrite with spinel phase.
In this study, we investigated the separability of vanadium and tungsten from spent SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalyst leach solution by reduction of vanadium and solvent extraction using Alamine 336 and conducted experiments to optimize process conditions. It is difficult to separate vanadium and tungsten due to their similar chemical behavior, but tungsten can be selectively extracted from acidic solution when vanadium extraction is prevented by reducing anionic pentavalent vanadium to cationic tetravalent vanadium. The results showed that NaHSO3 was most suitable as a reducing agent, and the extraction efficiency of vanadium decreased and the separation efficiency increased as the amount of reducing agent added, reaction time, and temperature increased. When reducing NaHSO3 1.5 eq, 60 min, and 60℃, which are optimal conditions of reduction, vanadium and tungsten were effectively separated with vanadium extraction efficiency of 5.8%, tungsten extraction efficiency of 99%, and separation factor of vanadium and tungsten of 7,564.
