A Review on Correlation between Music and Learning Activity Using EEG Signal Analysis (뇌파분석을 이용한 음악이 학습활동에 미치는 영향에 대한 고찰)

  • In this paper, we analyzed through the EEG signals how musical stimulus affects learning activities. Musical stimuli were divided into sedative and stimulative tendency music, preferred and non-preferred music, and the learning activity tasks were divided into mathematics tasks and memorization tasks. The signals measured in the EEG experiments were analyzed with the power spectrum of SMR waves known to be related to human concentration. Those spectra used for quantitative comparison in this paper. As a result the power of the EEG signals was observed to be greater than the case where music was given as a stimulus. Regardless of the type of task, the power of the EEG signals was observed to be greater in the case of sedative tendency than in the case of stimulative tendency, and the power of the EEG signals was observed to be greater in the case of favorite music than in the case of unfavorite music. From these results, it is estimated that if the musical stimulus exists, in the case of sedative tendency music, and in the case of favorite music, concentration can be increased than in the relative case.

A Driving Study on Driver's Subjective Speed Estimation as a Function of the Vehicle Noise Types and Intensity (운전 중 실내 소음의 유형 및 강도에 따른 주관적 속도감에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of in-vehicle noise types and levels of intensity on drivers' driving speed estimation. Noise generated from the vehicle engine and musical sound sampled from the Korean pop were employed as the types of in-vehicle noise and their levels of intensity were systematically manipulated. In experiment 1 where the effect of the engine noise levels on speed estimation was observed, drivers showed the tendencies of driving faster than the targets speeds under lower noise intensity condition whereas driving slower under higher noise intensity condition. In experiment 2 where both musical sample and the engine noise were provided, drivers' subjective speed estimation was affected by the engine noise as revealed experiment 1, but not by musical sample. When the data from the both experiments were combined and analyzed, an interacting effect of engine noise levels and music sample levels was found: if the intensity of music sample was enough to overwhelm the engine noise, the drivers drove faster than lower engine noise level condition in the experiment 1. This result indicates that although the music sample is not the direct auditory cue of speed estimation as observed in the experiment 2, intense level of music sample can affect drivers' speed estimation when it is coupled with the lower engine noise level.

A musical study on Kangwon Sangkangrye - Focusing on the perfoming style of Chogye Order - ('강원상강례(講院上講禮)'의 음악적 연구 - 조계종을 중심으로 -)

  • This is the first study in Musicology that discusses the features of Kangwon Sangkangrye(the pre-lecture ritual in Buddhism). In this thesis, I reviewed and compared the similarity and uniqueness between Kangwon Sangkangrye in "Seokmunuibom" and the one being performed these days. The musical relation between the performance shown in the historical record and the one in contemporary ritual was illustrated here based on the findings derived from the anlaysis on its bell(小鐘) performance. The analysis made upon musical sources recorded on-site shows the characteristics of contemporary Kangwon Sangkangrye. Following is a brief summary of this study. The review and comparison between Kangwon Sangkangrae in "Seokmunuibom" and the one being performed these days showed that the second type, which was significantly different from the first type, was closer to that of the historical record. The performers at Unmunsa Temple and Chungamsa Temple seemed to be following the tradition bell(小鐘) performance style which was found in the text of the historical record. Through the analysis on Kangwon Sangkangrae, I found that it has musical characteristics as follows. The vocal range of type 1 and type 2 was mostly performed within Minor 7th and didn't exceed the perfect 8th. The melodic structure of type 1 starts with do'-la of naedeureum and ended with the melody which downscaled from do' and finalized from mi to la. Usually the mode was in menari-tori but at some lecture halls a few cases found to be upscaled from sol to la which differentiates it from the typical menari-tori of folk songs. Like the typical way of traditional rites, the singing was divided into two parts: the leading call and the following choral response. Most were sung to be one syllable on one or two tones or one syllable lasting for several tones and the musical forms were varied by musical pieces. Meantime, Sangkangrae at Haeinsa Temple was differed from that of the other temples in terms of ritual procedure and vocal style. It added Korean version of and the lead vocal skipped the first phrase of the Sasul. The melodic structure of Type 2 started with do'-la of naedeureum and was finalized as the same way of Type 1. The mode of was not the same as typical menari-tori but the Jeongrye(prostration) and Balweon(a great vow) were identical to the menari-tori of folk songs. The singing was done in two forms, solo and unison, and the lyric-attachment of Gesong was one syllable for one or two tones and that of Jeongrye and Balweon were one syllable for one or two tones + one syllable for several tones. The musical form of Jeongrye is A-B-C and A-C. Balweon didn't display a certain periodicity but still maintained sense of unity and formality through repetition of the finalizing melody.

Emotion Recognition in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Comparison of Musical and Visual Cues (음악 단서와 시각 단서 조건에 따른 학령기 자폐스펙트럼장애 아동과 일반아동의 정서 인식 비교)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate how accurately children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD; n = 9) recognized four basic emotions (i.e., happiness, sadness, anger, and fear) following musical or visual cues. Their performance was compared to that of typically developing children (TD; n = 14). All of the participants were between the ages of 7 and 13 years. Four musical cues and four visual cues for each emotion were presented to evaluate the participants' ability to recognize the four basic emotions. The results indicated that there were significant differences between the two groups between the musical and visual cues. In particular, the ASD group demonstrated significantly less accurate recognition of the four emotions compared to the TD group. However, the emotion recognition of both groups was more accurate following the musical cues compared to the visual cues. Finally, for both groups, their greatest recognition accuracy was for happiness following the musical cues. In terms of the visual cues, the ASD group exhibited the greatest recognition accuracy for anger. This initial study support that musical cues can facilitate emotion recognition in children with ASD. Further research is needed to improve our understanding of the mechanisms involved in emotion recognition and the role of sensory cues play in emotion recognition for children with ASD.

The Effects of Users' Self-Reference of The Comparative Domain with Creative AI Robot in Music Composition on Their Envy toward Robot, Cognitive Assessment of Music and Intention to Work with Robot (인공지능 로봇과의 비교영역 자기관련성이 사용자의 시기심, 음악 창작물에 대한 평가 및 로봇과의 협업의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The current study explored if users' self-relevance of the comparison domain with creative AI robot in music composition affected their envy toward the robot, cognitive assessment toward the music and intention toward working with robot in future. This study conducted a 2 (degree of self-relevance: high(college students majoring in music) vs. low(those not majoring in music) × 2 (working type: robot-only vs. robot-human collaboration) between-subjects factorial design experiment. The findings revealed that those majoring in music did not feel envious of the robot as much as those not majoring in music. However, compared to those not majoring in music, those majoring in music evaluated the robot's creativity lower, had more negative attitude toward the music, showed less intention to use the music and work with the robots in future. No interaction between the degree of self-relevance and the working type was found.

  • 음성 대화 시스템에서는 사용자가 잘못된 슬롯명을 말하거나 음성인식 오류가 발생해 사용자의 의도에 맞지 않는 응답을 하는 경우가 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하고자 말뭉치나 사전 데이터를 활용한 질의 교정 방법들이 제안되지만, 이는 지속적으로 사람이 개입하여 데이터를 주입해야하는 한계가 있다. 본 논문에서는 축적된 로그 데이터를 활용하여 사람의 개입 없이 음악 재생에 필요한 슬롯을 교정하는 자기 학습(Self-learning) 기반의 모델을 제안한다. 이 모델은 사용자가 특정 음악을 재생하고자 유사한 질의를 반복하는 상황을 이용하여 비지도 학습 기반으로 학습하고 음악 재생에 실패한 슬롯을 교정한다. 그리고, 학습한 모델 결과의 정확도에 대한 불확실성을 해소하기 위해 질의 슬롯 관계 유사도 모델을 이용하여 교정 결과에 대한 검증을 하고 슬롯 교정 결과에 대한 안정성을 보장한다. 모델 학습을 위한 데이터셋은 사용자가 연속으로 질의한 세션 데이터로부터 추출하며, 음악 재생 슬롯 세션 데이터와 질의 슬롯 관계 유사도 데이터를 각각 구축하여 슬롯 교정 모델과 질의 슬롯 관계 유사도 모델을 학습한다. 교정된 슬롯을 분석한 결과 발음 정보가 유사한 슬롯 뿐만 아니라 의미적인 관계가 있는 슬롯으로도 교정하여 사전 기반 방식보다 다양한 유형의 교정이 가능한 것을 보였다. 3 개월 간 수집된 로그 데이터로 학습한 음악 재생 슬롯 교정 모델은 일주일 동안 반복한 고유 질의 기준, 음악 재생 실패의 12%를 개선하는 성능을 보였다.

A Study on the Considerations in Rules for Authorized Access points of Music Work (음악 저작의 전거형접근점 규칙 마련시 고려사항에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to suggest the considerations in the rules for authorized access points for collocation of music work by figuring out the directions of authorized access points in FRBR, LRM, ICP 2016, RDA, and BIBFRAME, and by analyzing RDA rules for attributes and authorized access points of music works and expression and VIAF examples. First, an aggregated authorized access points were suggested as the direction of authorized access points, and original title may be selected as preferred title and the authorized access point may be based on forms in one of the languages suited to the users, if the original title is not normally suited. Second, music works's authorized access points is consisted of composer authorized access point and preferred title, and of adapter's authorized access point and preferred title in case of lacks of responsibility in composer. Also, the authorized access point of Korean traditional music work must be reviewed according to work types considering the responsibility of composer. Third, the controlled vocabularies for name of music type, medium of performance, and key could be considered for describing the attributes of work and expression. This study would be the foundation study for the authorized access point of music work, and additional research should be completed through surveying music user's need.

Acoustic Analysis and Melodization of Korean Intonation for Language Rehabilitation (언어재활을 위한 한국어의 음향적 분석과 선율화)

  • This study aims to acoustically analyze Korean language characteristics and convert these findings into musical elements, providing foundational data for evidence-based music-language rehabilitation. We collected voice data from thirty men and thirty women aged 19-25, each providing six-syllable prosodic units composed of two accentual phrases, including both declarative and interrogative sentences. Analyzing this data with Praat, we extracted syllabic acoustic properties and conducted statistical analyses based on acoustic properties, sentence type, gender, and particle presence. Significant differences were found in syllable frequency and duration based on accentual phrases and prosodic units (p < .001), with interrogative showing higher frequencies and declaratives longer durations (p < .001). Female frequencies were significantly higher than males' (p < .001), with longer durations observed (p < .001). Particle syllables also showed significantly stronger intensities (p < .001). Finally, we presented melodies converted from these acoustic properties into musical scores based on pitch, duration, and accent. The insights from this analysis of six-syllable Korean sentences will guide further research on developing a system for melodizing large-scale Korean speech data, expected to be crucial in music-based language rehabilitation.

A study on the convergence of K-pop and world music (케이팝과 월드뮤직의 융합에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to increase the development possibility of K-pop music by analyzing K-pop music and analyzing the use of world music in it. As a research method, we will first look at the world music elements Puerto Rico's reggaeton, Jamaica's toasting, and the melody of Indian music. After that, we analyze two songs, Hyo-yeon's and Hyun-A & Dawn's , with rhythm and melody elements to find out the utilization of World Music. As a result of the study, it was found that it rhythmically showed the type of Dembow rhythm derived from Puerto Rico's reggaeton, and melody followed the form of Jamaican toasting and the melody of Arabic music. This study is meaningful in presenting the possibility of development and various directions of K-pop in the future by analyzing the use of world music used in K-pop music. Through the convergence of various world music and K-pop, I hope that K-pop music will become a culture that is supported by a wider public.

Analysis of Music Mood Class using Folksonomy Tags (폭소노미 분위기 태그를 이용한 음악의 분위기 유형 분석)

  • When retrieving music with folksonomy tags, internal use of numeric tags (AV tags: tags consisting of Arousal and Valence values ) instead of word tags can partially solve the problem posed by synonyms. However, the two predecessor tasks should be done correctly; the first task is to map word tags to their numeric tags; the second is to get numeric tags of the music pieces to be retrieved. The first task is verified through our prior study and thus, in this paper, its significance is seen for the second task. To this end, we propose the music mapping table defining the relation between AV values and music and ANOVA tests are performed for analysis. The result shows that the arousal values and valence values of music have different distributions for 12 mood tags with or without synonymy and that their type I error values are P<0.001. Consequently, it is checked that the distribution of AV values is different according to music mood.
