In outsourced databases, the cloud provides an authorized user with querying services on the outsourced database. However, sensitive data, such as financial or medical records, should be encrypted before being outsourced to the cloud. Meanwhile, k-Nearest Neighbor (kNN) query is the typical query type which is widely used in many fields and the result of the kNN query is closely related to the interest and preference of the user. Therefore, studies on secure kNN query processing algorithms that preserve both the data privacy and the query privacy have been proposed. However, existing algorithms either suffer from high computation cost or leak data access patterns because retrieved index nodes and query results are disclosed. To solve these problems, in this paper we propose a new kNN query processing algorithm on the encrypted database. Our algorithm preserves both data privacy and query privacy. It also hides data access patterns while supporting efficient query processing. To achieve this, we devise an encrypted index search scheme which can perform data filtering without revealing data access patterns. Through the performance analysis, we verify that our proposed algorithm shows better performance than the existing algorithms in terms of query processing times.
By using 92 values of lateral earth pressure coefficient(K) measured in Korea, the tendency of K with varying depth is analyzed and compared with the range of K defined by Hoek and Brown. The horizontal stress is generally larger than the vertical stress in Korea : About 84 % of K values are above 1. In this study, the theory of elasto-plasticity is applied to analyze the variation of K values, and the results are compared with those of numerical analysis. This reveals that the erosion, sedimentation and weathering of earth crust are important factors in the determination of K values. Surface erosion, large lateral pressure and good rock mass increase the K values, but sedimentation decreases the K values. This study enable us to analyze the effects of geological processes on the K values, especially at shallow depth where underground excavation takes place. A neural network expert system using multi-layer back-propagation algorithm is developed to predict the K values. The neural network model has a correlation coefficient above 0.996 when it is compared with measured data. The comparison with 9 measured data which are not included in the back-propagation learning has shown an average inference error of 20% and the correlation coefficient above 0.95. The expert system developed in this study can be used for reliable determination of K values.

The stabilization control of Inverted Pendulum(IP) system is difficult because of its nonlinearity and structural unstability. Futhermore, a series of conventional techniques such as the pole placement and the optimal control based on the local linearizations have narrow stabilizable regions. At the same time, the fine tunings of their gain parameters are also troublesome. Thus, in this paper, an Evolving Neural Network Controller(ENNC) which its structure and its connection weights are optimized simultaneously by Real Variable Elitist Genetic Algorithm(RVEGA) was presented for stabilization of an IP system with nonlinearity. This proposed ENNC was described by a simple genetic chromosome. And the deletion of neuron, the according to the various flag types. Therefore, the connection weights, its structure and the neuron types in the given ENNC can be optimized by the proposed evolution strategy. And the proposed ENNC was implemented successfully on the ADA-2310 data acquisition board and the 80586 microprocessor in order to stabilize the IP system. Through the simulation and experimental results, we showed that the finally acquired optimal ENNC was very useful in the stabilization control of IP system.

The purpose of this study was to construct an artificial intelligence model that learns and estimates the relationship between vehicle queue length and link travel time in urban areas. The vehicle queue length estimation model is modeled by three models. First of all, classify whether vehicle queue is a link overflow and estimate the vehicle queue length in the link overflow and non-overflow situations. Deep learning model is implemented as Tensorflow. All models are based DNN structure, and network structure which shows minimum error after learning and testing is selected by diversifying hidden layer and node number. The accuracy of the vehicle queue link overflow classification model was 98%, and the error of the vehicle queue estimation model in case of non-overflow and overflow situation was less than 15% and less than 5%, respectively. The average error per link was about 12%. Compared with the detecting data-based method, the error was reduced by about 39%.
The purpose of this study is to develop more accurate and robust emotion prediction neural network (EPNN) model by combining heart rate variability (HRV) and neural network. For the sake of improving the prediction performance more reliably, the proposed EPNN model is based on various types of activation functions like hyperbolic tangent, linear, and Gaussian functions, all of which are embedded in hidden nodes to improve its performance. In order to verify the validity of the proposed EPNN model, a number of HRV metrics were calculated from 20 valid and qualified participants whose emotions were induced by using money game. To add more rigor to the experiment, the participants' valence and arousal were checked and used as output node of the EPNN. The experiment results reveal that the F-Measure for Valence and Arousal is 80% and 95%, respectively, proving that the EPNN yields very robust and well-balanced performance. The EPNN performance was compared with competing models like neural network, logistic regression, support vector machine, and random forest. The EPNN was more accurate and reliable than those of the competing models. The results of this study can be effectively applied to many types of wearable computing devices when ubiquitous digital health environment becomes feasible and permeating into our everyday lives.

Hemorrhagic shock is a cause of one third of death resulting from injury in the world. Early diagnosis of hemorrhagic shock makes it possible for physician to treat successfully. The objective of this paper was to select an optimal classifier model using physiological signals from rats measured during hemorrhagic experiment. This data set was used to train and predict survival rate using artificial neural network (ANN) and support vector machine (SVM). To avoid over-fitting, we chose the best classifier according to performance measured by a 10-fold cross validation method. As a result, we selected ANN having three hidden nodes with one hidden layer and SVM with Gaussian kernel function as trained prediction model, and the ANN showed 88.9 % of sensitivity, 96.7 % of specificity, 92.0 % of accuracy and the SVM provided 97.8 % of sensitivity, 95.0 % of specificity, 96.7 % of accuracy. Therefore, SVM was better than ANN for survival prediction.
This study estimated the daily maximum snow depth using the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model in Korean Peninsula. First, the optimal ANN model structure was determined through the trial-and-error approach. As a result, daily precipitation, daily mean temperature, and daily minimum temperature were chosen as the input data of the ANN. The number of hidden layer was set to 1 and the number of nodes in the hidden layer was set to 10. In case of using the observed value as the input data of the ANN model, the cross validation correlation coefficient was 0.87, which is higher than that of the case in which the daily maximum snow depth was spatially interpolated using the Ordinary Kriging method (0.40). In order to investigate the performance of the ANN model for estimating the daily maximum snow depth of the ungauged area, the input data of the ANN model was spatially interpolated using Ordinary Kriging. In this case, the correlation coefficient of 0.49 was obtained. The performance of the ANN model in mountainous areas above 200m above sea level was found to be somewhat lower than that in the rest of the study area. This result of this study implies that the ANN model can be used effectively for the accurate and immediate estimation of the maximum snow depth over the whole country.
Mechanical valve is one of the most widely used implantable artificial organs of which the reliability is so important that its failure means the death of patient. Therefore early noninvasive detection is essentially required, though mechanical valve failure with thrombosis is the most common. The objective of this paper is to detect the thrombosis formation by spectral analysis and neural network. Using microphone and amplifier, we measured the sound from the mechanical valve which is attached to the pneumatic ventricular assist device. The sound was sampled by A/D converter(DaqBook 100) and the periodogram is the main algorithm for obtaining spectrum. We made the thrombosis models using pellethane and silicon and they are thrombosis model on the valvular disk, around the sewing ring and fibrous tissue growth across the orifice of valve. The performance of the measurment system was tested firstly using 1 KHz sinusoidal wave. The measurement system detected well 1KHz spectrum as expected. The spectrum of normal and 5 kinds of thrombotic valve were obtained and primary and secondary peak appeared in each spectrum waveform. We find that the secondary peak changes according to the thrombosis model. So to distinguish the secondary peak of normal and thrombotic valve quantatively, 3 layer back propagation neural network, which contains 7, 000 input node, 20 hidden layer and 1 output was employed The trained neural network can distinguish normal and valve with more than 90% probability. As a conclusion, the noninvasive monitoring of implanted mechanical valve is possible by analysing the acoustical spectrum using neural network algorithm and this method will be applied to the performance evaluation of other implantable artificial organs.

Although numerous investigations have been performed over the years to predict the behavior and bearing capacity of piles, the mechanisms are not yet entirely understood. The prediction of bearing capacity is a difficult task, because large numbers of factors affect the capacity and also have complex relationship one another. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to search the essential factors among many factors, which are related with ground condition, pile type, driving condition and others, and then appropriately consider complicated relationship among the searched factors. The present paper describes the application of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) in predicting the capacity including its components at the tip and along the shaft from dynamic load test of the driven piles. Firstly, the effect of each factor on the value of bearing capacity is investigated on the basis of sensitivity analysis using ANN modeling. Secondly, the authors use the design methodology composed of ANN and genetic algorithm (GA) to find optimal neural network model to predict the bearing capacity. The authors allow this methodology to find the appropriate combination of input parameters, the number of hidden units and the transfer structure among the input, the hidden and the out layers. The results of this study indicate that the neural network model serves as a reliable and simple predictive tool for the bearing capacity of driven piles.
