This on­farm study was conducted to evaluate the effect of feeding deepstacked broiler excreta­saw dust­rice hulls(DBSR) pellets on feed intake, production and economy of growing Hanwoo steers and Holstein bulls. Formulated mix and rice straw were replaced at 16％ and 48％ levels for growing Hanwoo steers(6 wk of feeding period) and at 4％ and 18％ levels for Holstein bulls(12 wk) with DBSR pellets. Control and treated diets were formulated to be isoenergetic and DBSR pellets were fed ad libitum. Palatability of DBSR pellets turned out to be favorable. Compared with the control group, feeding DBSR pellets did not affect body weight gain, average daily gain and feed efficiency(P＞0.05). Feed cost per gain was reduced by 18.5％ for Hanwoo steers and 3.5％ for Holstein bulls. Feeding DBSR pellets to Holstein bulls did not affect carcass weight and grades of meat yield and quality. These results indicate that deepstacked cage broiler excreta mixture may be effectively used as a feed ingredient for growing ruminants.

닭고기를 비롯한 축산물의 시장개방이 가시화되어 가는 등 축산업 전반에 주어진 여건이 급변하고 있어 이에 적응하기 위한 노력이 필요하다. 물과 사료만 주면 죽지않고 커주는 것이 육계인데 관리에 신경쓸 것 있느냐고 말하는 육계업자를 종종 볼 수 있는데 앞으로 육계업을 계속할 것인가를 제고해 볼 때가 왔다. 가축에게 쾌적한 환경을 제공해주고 세심한 관리가 필요함에도 축산업 중 육계사가 가장 낙후된 사육시설 즉 햇빛과 비, 바람을 막아주는 역할에 그치고 있다. 부적합한 사육환경으로 생산성은 물론 질병, 인력 등 2중3중의 손실을 가져오고 있어 환경개선과 시설자동화를 모색해야 한다. 육계경기가 비교적 오랫동안 안정세를 보이고 있다. 그동안 축적된 자금여력을 시설개선에 투입하여 생산성 향상에 역점을 두어야 변화될 육계업에 적응할 수 있으리라. 계열화가 확대되고, 닭고기 저장시설이 갖추어지고 있어 탄력적인 생산이 가능함으로써 가격안정이 실현될 날이 멀지 않았다. 심한 가격진폭으로 입추시기를 잘 맞추는 것이 성패를 결정하여 주었던 육계업에서 생산비 경쟁으로 성패가 좌우되는 육계업으로 변화되어 가고 있다.

The effect of dietary Antartic krill(Euphausia Superba) meal on the performance of broiler chicks during the acute phase responses was studied. One d-old male broiler chicks(Avian) were fed on the experimental basal (0.0 % krill meal), and 0.5 and 1.0 % krill meal diets, and then the acute phase response were activated by injecting Salmonella typhymurium lipopolisaccharide(LPS) three times i. p. at 8, 10 and 12 day of age. The 1.0% krill meal diet group had reduced daily gain and feed efficiency during the acute phase response of the 2nd week of age, while during recovery from the acute phase response of the 3rd week of age the lowered performance disappeared. The acute phase response increased the relative weight of liver and spleen, and dietary krill meal enhanced the activities of MnSOD and Cu/ZnSOD in liver and erythrocyte cytosols during the acute phase response, although neither the acute phase response or dietary krill meal affected significantly PHA-p hypersensitivity. The results indicated that dietary krill meal affected the performance and SOD activity of broilers chicks during the acute phase response.
