  • Gasoline engine have proved its utility in light, medium and heavy duty vehicle in every sector of the world community. The concern about long term availability of petroleum and the increasing threat for the environment by the increasing load of vehicular emission, compel the technology to upgrade itself for meeting the challenges. CNG is environmentally clean alternative to the existing SI Engines with out much change in the hardware. Many researchers have found this as a potential substitute to meet the energy requirement. Higher octane number and higher self ignition temperature make it a good gaseous fuel. Although power output is slightly lesser than the gasoline it's thermal efficiency is better than the gasoline for the same SI Engine. Results showed that reduced CO, hydrocarbon emissions is a favorable outcome, with slight increase in NOx emission when compared with gasoline fuel to dual fuel mode in the existing SI Engines.

  • The undergrounding of diverse ground facilities has led to a decrease in issues, such as foul smell of water supply systems and wastewater, a fall of telephone poles, electromagnetic waves and breaking of wires caused by a railway work. On the other hand, there are new issues, including a fall accident, explosion affected by flammable gas, a choking accident by harmful gas and a lack of oxygen concentration, a fire coming from high-tension wire heating and flooding in the manhole. Besides, these issues damage the civil society and are an anxiety to public safety. Therefore, this paper is focused on a smart manhole device for stable communication environments inside and outside the manhole and wireless communication with various devices for managing facilities in the manhole, and aims to make a contribution to public safety by suggesting a direction of future underground facility management.

  • According to the Laboratory Safety Act, each laboratory in the field of science and technology must conduct safety inspections and diagnosis every year or every two years. At present, the relevant guidelines are not clear, so there is a high possibility that inspection and diagnosis will become ineffective. In the laboratory, there is a pre-risk factor analysis system for hazardous factors, but there are many difficulties in implementation due to lack of education and understanding of the researchers, excessive work, etc. For the analysis of the opinions of experts in the safety field using the Delphi technique, we analyzed the following items: 1. Consideration in applying the Lab Safety Act, 2. Consideration in Lab Safety inspection and diagnosis, and 3. Government policy necessary for Lab. safety. Through the investigation and analysis of the detailed items, we extracted for problems and alternatives in current laboratory safety diagnosis and current law.

  • The size of the OLED material market is expected to grow from $1.1 billion in 2019 to $2.3 billion in 2023, with an average annual sustainable growth of more than 19%. Among the facilities mainly used by OLED material manufacturers, accidents such as fire, explosion, and leakage frequently occur when using filtration equipment, so it is necessary to improve the risk when using filtration equipment. In this study, it was divided into four main processes, namely, assembly and disassembly process, filtration process, wet cake recovery process, and washing process in order to derive the risks associated with the use of filtration equipment. Hazard factors were derived by conducting accident case investigations, preliminary interviews, and surveys. For the analysis of questionnaire results, statistical analysis such as frequency analysis and Pearson chi-square test analysis was performed using SPSS 21, and risk improvement measures were suggested using the analyzed results. It is expected that this study will serve as a basis for dealing with safety and risk factors that may occur as the size of the OLED market expands.

  • With continuous advancements in industry, science, and technology, there is a steady increase in the number and utilization of new chemicals. The growing societal emphasis on chemical safety management is paralleled by an increasing public demand for robust safety measures. While various ministries at the government level oversee the safety management of chemical substances, the occurrence of accidents related to chemical substances remains frequent each year due to problems such as aging facilities and careless handling. Upon analyzing domestic chemical accident cases, incidents occurred predominantly in the sequence of leakage, explosion, fire, and others. The main causes of these accidents were examined, revealing facility defects and non-compliance with safety management as the primary contributing factors. In this study, Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP) was employed to identify hazardous risk factors associated with the handling of hydrofluoric acid in workplaces, and a risk assessment was performed using Bow-Tie method. Based on the results of this study, it is expected to enhance safety management plans aimed at preventing chemical accidents in workplaces dealing with similar facilities. Ultimately, these insights contribute to the development of an advanced chemical safety management system, capable of proactively preventing potential chemical accidents.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary Bacillus subtilis on meat quality, growth performance and fecal malodor gas emission in finishing pigs. Thirty-six pigs (Landrace ${\times}$ Yorkshire ${\times}$ Duroc, $83.53{\pm}1.01\;kg$ average initial body weight) were used in a 35 d growth assay. Dietary treatments were 1) CON (basal diet), 2) B1 (basal diet + B. subtilis 0.1%) and 3) B2 (basal diet + B. subtilis 0.2%). The pigs were distributed into four pigs per pen with three replicate pens per treatments by completely randomized design. For the entire period, the final weight, ADO, ADFI and gain/feed were not significantly different among the treatments. There were no significant differences in meat quality (sensory evalution, meat color, TBARS, water holding capacity, drip loss, cooking loss and M. longissimus dorsi area) among the treatments. $H_2S$ was significantly decreased in B2 treatment compared to CON and B1 treatments (p<0.05). However, ammonia, mercaptans and acetic acid were not significantly different among the treatments. In conclusion, B. subtilis 0.2% treatments decreased fecal $H_2S$ gas emission in finishing pigs.

  • Harmful air pollutants are exhausted from the various industrial facilities including the coal-fired thermal power plants and these substances affects on the human health as well as the nature environment. In particular, nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) and sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) are known to be causative substances to form fine particles ($PM_{2.5}$), which are also deleterious to human health. The integrated system composed of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) have been widely applied in order to control $NO_x$ and $SO_2$ emissions, resulting in high investment and operational costs, maintenance problems, and technical limitations. Recently, new technologies for the simultaneous removal of $NO_x$ and $SO_2$ from the flue gas, such as absorption, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), non-thermal plasma (NTP), and electron beam (EB), are investigated in order to replace current integrated systems. The proposed technologies are based on the oxidation of $NO_x$ and $SO_2$ to $HNO_3$ and $H_2SO_4$ by using strong aqueous oxidants or oxidative radicals, the absorption of $HNO_3$ and $H_2SO_4$ into water at the gas-liquid interface, and the neutralization with additive reagents. In this paper, we summarize the technical improvements of each simultaneous abatement processes and the future prospect of technologies for demonstrating large-scaled applications.

  • Diesel engines have the highest brake thermal efficiency among internal combustion engines. Therefore, they are utilized in medium and large transportation vehicles requiring large amounts of power such as heavy trucks, ships, power generation systems, etc. However, diesel engines have a disadvantage of generating large quantities of nitrogen oxides during the combustion process. Therefore, the authors tried to reduce the amount of nitrogen oxides in marine diesel engines using a wet-type exhaust gas cleaning system utilizing the undivided electrolyzed seawater method. In this method, electrolyzed seawater in injected into the harmful gas discharge from the diesel engine using real seawater. The authors investigated the reduction of NO and NOx from the pH value, available chlorine concentration, and the temperature of electrolyzed seawater. The results of this experiment indicated that when the electrolyzed seawater is acidic, the NO oxidation rate in the oxidation tower is higher than that when the electrolyzed seawater has a neutral pH. Likewise, the NO oxidation rate increased with the increase in concentration of chlorine. Further, it was confirmed that the electrolyzed seawater temperature had no effect on the NO oxidation rate. Thus, the NOx exhaust emission value produced by the diesel engine was reduced by means of electrolyzed seawater treatment.

  • Diesel vehicles should be equipped with urea-selective catalytic reduction(SCR) system as a high-performance catalyst, in order to reduce harmful nitrogen oxide emissions. In this study, a three-dimensional Eulerian-Lagrangian CFD analysis was used to numerically predict the multiphase flow characteristics of the urea-SCR system, coupled with the chemical reactions of the system's transport phenomena. Then, the numerical spray structure was modified by comparing the results with the measured values from spray visualization, such as the injection velocity, penentration length, spray radius, and sauter mean diameter. In addition, the analysis results were verified by comparison with the removal efficiency of the nitrogen oxide emissions during engine and chassis tests, resulting in accuracy of the relative error of less than 5%. Finally, a verified CFD analysis was used to calculate the interanl flow of the urea-SCR system, thereby analyzing the characteristics of pressure drop and velocity increase, and predicting the uniformity index and overdistribution positions of ammonia.
