This study was carried out to construct a DNA profile database of 100 strawberry cultivars using microsatellite markers. Two hundred seventy four microsatellite primer pairs were screened with a set of 21 strawberry cultivars with different morphological traits. Twenty five primer pairs were selected because they produced reliable and reproducible fingerprints. These primer pairs were used to develop DNA profiles of 100 strawberry cultivars. Three to thirteen alleles were detected by each marker with an average of 7.50. The average polymorphism information content varied from 0.331 to 841 (average 0.706). Cluster analysis showed that the 100 cultivars were divided into 7 major groups reflecting geographic origin and pedigree information. Moreover, most of the cultivars could be discriminated by marker genotypes. These markers will be useful as a tool for the protection of plant breeders' intellectual property rights in addition to providing the means to intervene seed disputes relating to variety authentication.
A DNA profile database was constructed to investigate the genetic relatedness of 72 germplasm samples of Pyrus and related cultivars using microsatellite markers. Three P. pyrifolia, four P. commus, and one P. betulifolia cultivars with different morphological traits were screened using 387 pairs of microsatellite primers. A core set of 11 primer pairs was selected to obtain 133 polymorphic amplified fragments meeting three criteria: high polymorphism information contents (PIC), high repeatability, and distinct allele patterns. The number of alleles per locus ranged between 4 and 22. Average PIC was 0.743 (range: 0.557 - 0.879). Cluster analysis using the unweighted pair - group method with arithmetical average (UPGMA) separated the 72 pear cultivars and germplasm samples into four major groups: Chinese, European pears, and a cluster of 55 Asian pears that could be reclassify into two subcluster, I - $1^{st}$ and II - $2^{nd}$, according to pedigree information. Almost all of the cultivars were discriminated by 11 microsatellite marker genotypes. The microsatellite DNA profile database may be utilized as tool to verify distinctness, uniformity, and stability between candidate cultivar, and to verify in the distinctness of existing cultivars.
Fingerprint classification is a step to increase the efficiency of an 1:N fingerprint recognition system and plays a role to reduce the matching time of fingerprint and to increase accuracy of recognition. It is difficult to classify fingerprints, because the ridge pattern of each fingerprint class has an overlapping characteristic with more than one class, fingerprint images may include a lot of noise and an input condition is an exceptional case. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to design a stochastic model and to accomplish fingerprint classification using a directional characteristic of fingerprints for an effective classification of various qualities. We compute the directional value by searching a fingerprint ridge pixel by pixel and extract a directional characteristic by merging a computed directional value by fixed pixels unit. The modified Markov model of each fingerprint class is generated using Markov model which is a stochastic information extraction and a recognition method by extracted directional characteristic. The weight list of classification model of each class is decided by analyzing the state transition matrixes of the generated Markov model of each class and the optimized value which improves the performance of fingerprint classification using GA (Genetic Algorithm) is estimated. The performance of the optimized classification model by GA is superior to the model before the optimization by the experiment result of applying the fingerprint database of various qualities to the optimized model by GA. And the proposed method effectively achieved fingerprint classification to exceptional input conditions because this approach is independent of the existence and nonexistence of singular points by the result of analyzing the fingerprint database which is used to the experiments.
The emergence and dissemination of extended-spectrum ${\beta}$-lactamse (ESBL) producing Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates make it more difficult to treatment of bacterial infections. In our study, we detected ESBL genes and investigated antimicrobial susceptibility of K. pneumoniae isolates in Chungcheong province. In addition, clonality among the isolates was analyzed by repetitive element sequence (REP)-PCR. Twenty-one of 102 K. pneumoniae isolates produced CTX-M-14 and/or CTX-M-15 and showed high level (over 70%) resistance to third cephalosporins. CTX-M type ESBL producing K. pneumoniae strains isolated in our study showed diverse clonality and some of the isolates have been disseminated in the community. Enhancing infection control will be needed to prevent dissemination of the K. pneumoniae isolates. In addition, for more effective control of resistant bacteria it is considered necessary to monitor the database constructed through convergence of biological investigation and statistical analysis of antimicrobial resistance genes.

Recently, amount of the data such as sequences is being increased rapidly due to deploying computational technique and advance of experiment tools in the biological areas. In bioinformatics, it is very significant to extract the knowledge from such huge biological data. Sequence comparisons are most frequently used to predict the function of the genes or proteins. However it takes so much time to process the persistently increasing data In this paper, we propose hardware-based grid, CGRID(Chungbuk National University GRID), to improve performance and complement existing middleware-only approach and apply it in the sequence comparison. Hardware-based approach is easy to construct, maintain, and manage the grid as not requiring the software installation individually for every node. We reduce orthologous database construction time from 33 weeks to just a week. Furthermore, CGRID guarantees that the performance increases proportionally as adding the nodes.
The natural treasure is not only a product of nature and but also a heritage we need to protect. Among natural treasures, because an animal and a plant have lives, one of them are sure to be disappeared. The natural treasure, Sok-ri mountain's Jungyeepoomsong is unique. It is the only alive tree which secure a government position. Currently the Jungyeepoomsong gets into difficulty because of natural disasters and insect attacks. In addition, it is in a critical condition of dying old since the age of the tree is over 600 years. The purpose of this paper is to investigate plans for tourism resources of the Jungyeepoomsong. Because the Jungyeepoomsong is a rare variety, it can be commercialized as a plant resource. Also, it can be used as the method of creating income for local residents. To achieve research objective, this paper proposes the plans of a lineage certification using a genetic analysis technology, a genealogical table control system utilizing purebred preservation and storytelling, a database construction between producers, sellers, and owners, a tourism event, a method of building Jungyeepoomsong's brand and preserving its value.
Incorrect deployment of RFID readers occurs reader-to-reader interferences in many applications using RFID technologies. Reader-to-reader interference occurs when a reader transmits a signal that interferes with the operation of another reader, thus preventing the second reader from communicating with tags in its interrogation zone. Interference detected by one reader and caused by another reader is referred to as a reader collision. In RFID systems, the reader collision problem is considered to be the bottleneck for the system throughput and reading efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel RFID reader anti-collision algorithm based on evolutionary algorithm(EA). First, we analyze characteristics of RFID antennas and build database. Also, we propose EA encoding algorithm, fitness algorithm and genetic operators to deploy antennas efficiently. To show superiority of our proposed algorithm, we simulated our proposed algorithm. In the result, our proposed algorithm obtains 95.45% coverage rate and 10.29% interference rate after about 100 generations.
Chitin and chitosan, which is deacetylated form of chitin, are one of the most abundant biomass on the earth. They showed various biological activities including antimicrobial activity, heavy metal chelating, immune system activation, and have very diverse applications in food, pharmaceutical, medicinal, and environmental industry. There have been reported many chitin/chitosan-hydrolyzing enzymes, their structures and genes from three domains, archaea, bacteria, and eukarya. Carbohydrate hydrolyzing enzymes are classified in CAZy (Carbohydrate Active Enzymes) database according to their amino acid sequence similarity. Interestingly, chitinases and chitosanases are classified in various glycosyl hydrolase(GH) families, GH2, GH5, GH7, GH8, GH18, GH19, GH20, GH46, GH48, GH73, GH75, GH80, GH84, and GH85. Here, we review characteristics and structures of chitin/chitosan hydrolyzing enzymes according to glycosyl hydrolase families in order to provide information about gene mining.

The red seabream iridovirus (RSIV), which belongs to the iridoviridae, causes infectious fish diseases in many Asian countries, leading to considerable economic losses to the aquaculture industry. Using the yeast surface display (YSD) technique, a new experimental system was recently developed for the detection and identification of a variety of marine viruses. In this study, a coat protein gene of RSIV was synthesized based on the nucleotide sequence database and subcloned into the yeast expression vector, pCTCON2. The expression of viral coat proteins in the yeast strain, EBY100, was detected by flow cytometry and Western blot analysis. Finally, they were isolated from the yeast surface through a treatment with ${\beta}$-mercaptoethanol. The data suggests that the YSD system can be a useful method for acquiring coating proteins of marine viruses.
With the explosion of bioinformatics data such proteins and genes, biologists need a integrated system to analyze and organize large datasets that interact with heterogeneous types of biological data. In this paper, we propose a integration system based on a mediated data warehouse architecture using a XML model in order to combine protein related data at biology laboratories. A fact constellation model in this system is used at a common model for integration and an integrated schema it translated to a XML schema. In addition, to track source changes and provenance of data in an integrated database employ incremental update and management of sequence version. This paper shows modeling of integration for protein structures, sequences and classification of structures using the proposed system.
