Heritabilities of Some Characters of Mulberry Trees (상수각 형질의 유전력)

  • The experimental studies were intended to clarify the effects leaf yield calculations, and also aimed at estimating the heritabilities on some characters for the selection of desirable stocks of mulberry trees. The method of estimating heritabilities for the eight characters-branch length, node number, branch diameter, branch number per stock, total branch weight, old branch weight, new shoot and leaf weight, and leaf weight, was the variance components procedures in a replicated trial for the varietal lines. The results are summarized as follows: Means, variances and standard errors for the characters are shown in table 1, and the results of variance analyses are also shown in table 2. Heritability values of node number was the highest, and these of branch number per stock was the lowest, and these of other six characters were intermediate values. These all calculated heritability values were higher than anticipated. This was expected since these values, which were the broad sense heritability, contain the variance due to dominance and epistasis in addition to the additive variance.

  • This paper presents the implementation of simple genetic algorithm using hardware description language for evolvable hardware embedded system. Evolvable hardware refers to hardware that can change its architecture and behavior dynamically and autonomously by interacting with its environment. So, it is especially suited to applications where no hardware specifications can be given in advance. Evolvable hardware is based on the idea of combining reconfigurable hardware device with evolutionary computation, such as genetic algorithm. Because of parallel, no function call overhead and pipelining, a hardware genetic algorithm give speedup over a software genetic algorithm. This paper suggests the hardware genetic algorithm for evolvable embedded system chip. That includes simulation results for several fitness functions.

Complete genome sequence of Lactobacillus plantarum JBE245 isolated from Meju (메주에서 분리한 Lactobacillus plantarum JBE245 균주의 유전체 서열 분석)

  • Lactobacillus plantarum is widely found in fermented foods and has various phenotypic and genetic characteristics to adapt to the environment. Here we report the complete annotated genome sequence of the L. plantarum strain JBE245 (= KCCM43243) isolated for malolactic fermentation of apple juice. The genome comprises a single circular 3,262,611 bp chromosome with 2907 coding regions, 45 pseudogenes, and 91 RNA genes. The genome contains 4 malate dehydrogenase genes, 3 malate permease genes and various types of plantaricin-synthesizing genes. These genetic traits meet the selection criteria of the strains that should prevent the spoilage of apple juice during fermentation and efficiently convert malate to lactic acid.

  • As commercial use of genetic resources increases in modern society, calls for fair and equitable sharing of the benefits thereof have become increasingly prominent, particularly from developing countries. As a result, negotiations have been ongoing for the "International Regime on Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS)" for genetic resources as a successor to the non-binding Bonn Guideline. 2010 has been set as the target date for the Agreement. As South Korea is more likely to be a user country of genetic resources, it will be necessary for it to take part in the negotiating process and contribute to creating the International Regime on ABS, to ensure both appropriate access to genetic resources and fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising there from. To develop appropriate response strategies for South Korea, it is critical not only to closely examine the negotiations within the framework of the CBD but also to engage in discussions within thescope of related international organizations and domestic legislation. To achieve this goal, it is imperative for South Korea to form a comprehensive Government Response System, composed of relevant governmental bodies including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and the Ministry of Environment, etc.

  • Tegillarca granosa, is one of the most important fishery resources throughout Asia. However, due to industrialization factories, marine environmental pollution, and global warming, the marine fishery production has drop sharply. In order to understand the genetic factors of the blood clam, which is a major fishery resource on the southern coast of Korea, the whole genome of blood clam was studied. The assembled genome of T. granosa was 915.4 Mb, and 19 chromosomes were identified. 25,134 genes were identified, and 22,745 genes were functionally annotated. As a result of performing gene gain and loss analysis between the blood clam genome and eight other types of shellfish, it was confirmed that 725 gene groups were expanded, and 479 gene groups were contracted. The homeobox gene cluster of blood clam showed a well-preserved genetic structure within lophotrochozoan ancestor. T. granosa genome showed high similarity between three hemoglobin genes with Scarpharca broughtonii. The blood clam genome will provide information for the genetic and physiological characteristics of blood clam adaptation, evolution, and the development of aquaculture industry.

  • 본 논문은 일반조명용과 LCD Backlight에 적용 가능한 제논 유전체 장벽형 평판형광램프에 대한 연구이다. 일반적으로, 수은을 포함한 형광램프는 낮은 온도에서의 휘도문제와 상대적으로 긴 점등시간, 수명, 그리고 환경 문제가 있다. 이러한 문제점들을 해결하기 위해서 제논 유전체 장벽형 평판형광램프가 연구되었다. 100(W)급($384{\times}321{\times}10mm$)으로 제작된 램프는 AC 펄스 전압에 의해 균일도, 안정한 방전, 우수한 전기적 및 광학적 특성을 가진다. 더 높아진 효율은 빠른 상승시간을 가진 AC 펄스전압, 주파수와 듀티의 구동 최적화, 전극의 형상, 압력 최적화 등에서 얻어진다. 이 연구에서 제논 유전체 장벽형 평판형광램프는 90(%)의 균일 도에서 7,600(cd/$m^2$)의 휘도와 32[1m/W] 이상의 효율을 얻었다.

한국인 윌슨병의 임상상과 유전자형

  • 윌슨병은 ATP7B의 결함에 의해 발생하는 질환으로 구리 대사 이상질환이다. 구리대사의 이상은 체내에 구리의 축적을 유도하며, 이에 따르는 산화스트레스, 염증반응, 세포소멸사의 환경 조성, 마이토콘드리아의 손상 등이 동반되는 것으로 알려져 있다. 윌슨병은 간질환으로 발현하거나, 신경학적 증상으로 발현하는 환자도 있으며, 일부 환자는 무증상적 시기에 발현하기도 한다. 우리나라의 윌슨병 237 가계를 대상으로 한 연구에서 발현 표현형에 따른 임상상의 차이를 발견할 수 있었다. 또한, 이러한 표현형의 차이는 ATP7B의 유전형과도 일부 상관관계를 보이고 있었는데, 돌연변이의 종류나 위치에 따른 발현 임상상의 차이를 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나, 이외의 부위나 한국인에서 흔한 돌연변이에 따른 표현형은 상관관계를 밝힐 수 없었다. 향후 표현형의 다양성에 영향을 주는 요소를 찾아내고 이들이 임상경과에 미치는 영향을 밝히기 위한 노력이 필요하다.

  • 본 논문에서는 선박 디젤엔진의 속도를 조절함에 있어서 환경 변화에서도 지속적으로 만족스러운 성능을 유지하도록 시스템 파라미터 추정자, 제어기 계수 수정자를 결합한 자기동조 PID 제어기를 설계한다. 유전알고리즘을 기반으로 한 온라인 추정자가 시스템의 파라미터를 추정하면, 제어기 계수 수정자는 제안한 동조규칙으로 계수를 조정하게 된다. 이를 위해 시스템을 시간지연 1차 모델로 근사화하여 유전알고리즘 기반으로 그 파라미터를 온라인 추정하는 문제를 다룬다. 제안한 방법의 성능은 B&W사의 4L80MC 디젤엔진을 제어대상으로 퍼지모델을 얻고 모의실험을 통하여 확인한다.

  • To examine the effects of ozone (O$_3$), one of the major air pollutants in the city area, on genetic changes in Cornus controversa Hemsl., we compared genetic structures between sensitive (S) and tolerant (T) tree groups of C. controversa fumigated with ozone using isozyme markers. The genetic structures were measured in terms of allele and genotype frequencies determined at ave polymorphic enzyme loci. Marked genetic differences between the two groups were detected at three loci (Lap-2, Mdh-1 and Skdh-1). Genetic parameters, genetic multiplicity, genetic diversity and heterozygosity showed that the tolerant group retained greater genetic variation than did the sensitive group. Results of the study were congruent with the general expectation that the more heterozygous individuals and/or populations exhibit higher resistance to various stress factors.

  • In this study an optimization of greenhouse roof shape was performed to maximize solar light transmission which is one of the most important elements in greenhouse environment. To determine roof shape that maximize the total light transmissivity, a computer model for analysing light transmissivity was composed and the Genetic Algorithms was applied for solving optimization problems. By setting composite model as objective function(fitness function), the optimum combination of design variables(roof inclination angle, width ratio) was searched using Genetic Algorithms. The optimum combination of input variables for the maximum light transmissivity at Suwon in winter was found 40 degree root angle , 0.5 width ratio, for two span greenhouses and 37 $_。 / roof angle, 0.7 width ratio, for single span greenhouses.es.
