The effects of push factors on transition into self-employment across age groups - Focusing on push hypothesis and pull hypothesis - (경기변동이 자영업이행에 미치는 영향의 연령집단별 차이 -구축가설과 유인가설을 중심으로-)

  • Although the rate of self-employment is high in Korean labor market and the rate gap between age groups is high, few studies have addressed on the effects of push factors on transition into self-employment across age groups. The goal of this research is to determine if push factors exert different effects on the self-employment decisions across age groups. There is interest in testing push hypothesis and pull hypothesis. The Korean Labor and Income Panel Study wave 6~11 is used to test this study's hypothesis. The main contribution of the paper is that in case of high unemployment, the probability of transition into self-employment increases. It is consistent with the push hypothesis. Many people are forced to become self-employed person due to the high rate of unemployment and limited occupational choice rather than the role of entrepreneurship. By age subgroup, the transition into self-employment of the ages of 30 and 49 is high. In addition, people at 40-49 years of age are more likely to become self-employed as a response of inadequate job opportunities. It provides the evidence that the self-employment is not a matter of special age group in that people in the 30 to 49 year old age group whose economic activities are vigorous move into marginalized labor market. Furthermore, it seems to be threatened the employment's stability of the prime age in that even people who are age 40-49 years of age are pushed into self-employment because of the recession.

  • Smart phones become essential goods for our life. As the technology are developing, and the market becomes saturated, it is important to understand the determinants affecting purchase of smart phones. In this paper, to understand these determinants factor analysis and binary logistics regression is used. Toward this, we first define the determinants into 3 categories: customer satisfaction, switching barrier, and switching attractiveness based on literature review. Furthermore, we develop 9 hypotheses to test with survey data using factor analysis and binary logistics regression. The results show that the six factors (data quality, price satisfaction, corporate image, the burden of new contract, attraction of devices and attraction of other competitors) are significant when customers buy smart phones.

A Study on Mediating Effects of Wedding Industry Employees Equity Perception in the Relationship between Transformational Leadership and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (웨딩산업에 종사하는 리더의 변혁적 리더십과 조직시민행동의 관계에서 공정성 지각의 매개효과에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to examine the effect of transformational leadership of the leader in the wedding industry on the behavior of employees, and also to examine the equity perception of employees on their behavior. As a result of analysis, when the relation between transformational leadership and organizational citizenship behavior was examined, transformational leadership had not effect on behavior of employees. Thus, hypothesis 1 was rejected. As transformational leadership had significant effect on equity perception, hypothesis 2 was adopted. When the relation between equity perception and organizational citizenship behavior was analyzed, equity perception had significant effect on organizational citizenship behavior. Thus, hypothesis 3 was adopted. When the mediating effect of equity perception in the process of the effect of transformational leadership on organizational citizenship behavior as hypothesis 4 was examined, equity perception had partial mediating effects. Thus, hypothesis 4 was partially adopted. Accordingly, the leader in the wedding industry needs to demonstrate transformational leadership in order to promote organizational citizenship behavior of employees and also makes employees to feel impartial treatment and procedural impartiality. Further studies on practical measures of this issue are recommended.

한국기업(韓國企業)의 수익성(收益性)에 관한 연구(硏究) -대주주(大株主)와 소수주주(少數株主)간의 이해갈등(利害葛藤)을 중심(中心)으로-

  • 1997년의 경제위기는 근본적으로 많은 차입금에도 불구하고 장기간에 걸쳐 낮은 수익성을 보인 기업들이 불황에 직면하여 도산위험이 급증함으로써 발생한 것으로 판단된다. 그러면, 기업들의 수익성은 왜 이렇게 낮은 것일까? 본 연구는 지배대주주와 소액주주간의 갈등이 기업의 수익성을 저하시킨 한 원인으로 작용했다는 가설을 실증적으로 규명하고자 한다. 우리나라 기업들, 특히 기업집단의 경우 지배대주주의 개인소유지분은 높지 않지만 기업경영에 대한 통제력은 매우 강하다. 기업경영에 대한 감시와 책임경영이 확립되지 않는 경제에서 지배대주주가 기업자산을 개인적 이익에 따라 운영하는 경우 편익은 독점하지만 이에 따른 수익성 하락 등의 비용은 다른 주주와 소유 지분율에 따라 공유하게 되므로 사적이익을 추구할 유인이 크다. 본 연구는 1992년부터 1997년까지의 공기업 및 금융기관을 제외한 외부감사대상기업의 재무자료를 기초로 영업이익률, 경상이익률, 그리고 순이익률이 주주간의 이해상충에 의해 어떻게 영향을 받았는가를 분석하였다. 수익성 분석에 있어 상장여부, 자산운영(관계회사 및 비관계회사에 대한 투자), 재벌소속 여부, 기업규모, 재무구조 그리고 산업적 특성 및 기업의 경영 및 사업 전략적 특성을 제어하였다. 다른 조건이 동일하다고 가정하면 상장된 기업의 수익성은 비상장기업보다 낮다. 상장기업의 경우는 대주주의 소유지분이 낮은 반면에 외부주주의 비중이 높기 때문에 대주주가 개인의 이익을 추구하고자 하는 유인이 강하게 작용한 결과로 판단된다. 또한 재벌에 소독된 기업의 수익성은 독립기업들의 수익성보다 낮을 뿐만 아니라 계열회사의 유가증권 및 대여금 등에 대한 투자가 증가할수록 기업의 경상이익률 및 순이익률이 낮아진다. 반면에 비관계회사에 대한 투자자산은 경상이익률 및 순이익률을 높이는 것으로 나타났다. 재벌에 소속된 상장회사가 관계회사에 투자하는 경우는 투자기업의 수익성이 더욱 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 관계회사에 대한 투자는 수익성에 기초한 투자가 아니며 대주주의 지분이 낮은 상장기업에서 소액주주의 이익에 반하여 계열사에 대한 투자형태로 자원이 이전되고 있음을 시사한다. 본 논문의 분석 결과는 외부주주와 내부주주간의 이해상충이 기업의 수익성을 저하시킨다는 가설과 일관된다. 따라서 대주주가 개인적 이익을 추구하고자 하는 유인을 견제하고 소액주주의 권리를 강화하도록 지배구조를 확립해야 할 것이다.

The Impact of Block shareholder on Quality of Internal Control in Korea's Mutual Savings Banks (금융기관지배구조가 내부통제품질에 미치는 영향 - 상호저축은행의 최대주주 지분율을 중심으로 -)

  • Mutual Savings Banks generally have weaker governance structure than other financial institutions, so the possibility of earnings management by owner-largest or managements of mutual savings banks is higher than other financial institutions. This study examines the relationship between corporate governance and quality of internal control of financial reporting. If the expropriation of minority shareholder hypothesis holds, we predict that the larger block shareholder in mutual savings banks, the weaker the internal control system by more likely the opportunistic earnings management by bank managers. On the other hand, under the convergence of interest hypothesis, we predict that the larger block shareholder in mutual savings banks, the stronger the internal control system by reduction in agency costs as owner-manager's holdings increases, and there a negative relationship is expected between internal control weakness and the holdings of the owner-largest shareholder. We find that mutual savings banks with higher owner-largest shareholder equity has significant positive relations with their internal control of financial reporting material weakness. This result suggests that the greater owner-largest shareholder equity, the more likely the opportunistic earnings management, so that decrease quality of internal control. This paper extends the literature on financial institutions corporate governance to verify whether governance system, especially, owner-largest and quality of internal control has significant positive relations.

The Effect of Managerial Ownership on the Value of Cash Holdings (경영자 지분율이 보유현금가치에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the effect of managerial ownership on the value of firms' cash holdings. According to the management entrenchment hypothesis, managers have incentives to make decisions that can undermine shareholders' value for their own private interests. In this situation, as the managerial ownership increases, investors may evaluate that the cash held by the company may be utilized inefficiently and the value of the cash holdings may decrease. On the other hand, based on the incentive alignment hypothesis, the value of cash holdings may increase as investors perceive cash holdings to be effectively used to increase corporate value as managers' interests are in agreement with shareholders. Empirical results show that the value of cash holdings decreased as managerial ownership increased. This study finds a contribution in that it presents empirical evidence on whether the cash held by the company is differentially evaluated according to the level of the managerial ownership.

A Study on Measures to Utilize Public Libraries' Social Network Service (공공도서관의 소셜 네트워크 서비스 활용 방안 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide values and effectiveness to libraries making a new social network service marketing model and strategy. According to study, when libraries entice library users with social network services, the users become loyal customers who give libraries long-term supports. For method of study, it establishes 15 hypotheses and proves those hypotheses with 157 responders. After inspecting hypotheses, 13 hypotheses are adopted and 3 hypotheses are dismissed. During the research, it is verified that usefulness perceived by library users is the most important factor of user satisfaction and continuous use intention which increased library users' intention to continue visiting the library. In addition, effectivness of marketing and cause are found in order of system quality, information quality, reliability, interactivity, subjective norms. In other words, the study found that library users found their information for using social network services and this attribute affects user satisfaction and ultimately continuous use intention in a positive way.

A comparative social policy study on determinants of work of old adults (중고령자 근로에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 비교사회정책학적 연구)

  • This study has sought to analyze factors affecting work and work preference of older adults at national and individual level. A few theoretical hypotheses such as economic need versus job opportunity (or employability), attitude toward paid work, pull effect versus push effect were tested for citizens in eighteen OECD countries with International Social Survey dataset(2005) using multi-level analysis. Main findings are as follows. First, most older adults wanted to work regardless of the socio-economic status, which implies that non-work of older adults would be due to involuntary constraint rather than voluntary choice. Second, there existed class inequality in that the higher class tended to involve paid work more than the lower class did among 55-64 age group. Third, the push factor such as part-time employment ratio, rather than the generosity of social security, explained the work and retirement patterns better. In conclusion, at least from the comparative perspective, the main problem of older adults' work seems to be of labour demand rather than of labour supply, to be of labour market structure and work opportunity rather than of the pull factor.

The Effect of Markets for Technology on The Entry of Technology Suppliers: Evidence from the Chemical Industry (기술시장의 존재가 기술공급자의 시장진입에 미치는 영향)

  • This paper provides an empirical evidence that the entry of a technology supplier depends on the markets for technology. In particular, using the chemical industry dataset, we test the hypothesis that the number of specialized engineering firms (SEFs) depends on the number of licensors in the market. Moreover, the number of plant investment, which is a market demand shifter is positively related with the entry of the SEFs, while the effect of the GDP pre capita does not have a significant effect on the entry of the SEFs.

저축(貯蓄)의 대체성(代替性)과 재정정책(財政政策)의 유효성(有效性)

  • 본(本) 연구(硏究)의 목적(目的)은 우리나라의 1963~86년도 자료를 사용하여 소비(消費) 및 가계저축함수(家計貯蓄函數)를 추정함으로써 가계(家計), 기업(企業), 정부저축(政府貯蓄) 등 세 부문의 저축(貯蓄) 사이에 어떠한 관계, 즉 어느 정도의 대체관계(代替關係)가 있는가를 판별하고 정부저축(政府貯蓄)과 정부재정지출(政府財政支出) 등의 변수(變數)로 표시되는 재정정책(財政政策)의 구축효과(驅逐效果)와 이에 따른 재정정책(財政政策)의 유효성(有效性) 혹은 무력성(無力性) 문제(問題)를 분석하고자 함에 있다. 본(本) 연구(硏究)의 분석결과에 의하면 기업저축(企業貯蓄)과 정부저축(政府貯蓄)은 가계저축(家計貯蓄)과 대체관계(代替關係)가 아닌 보완관계(補完關係)를 갖는 것으로 나타난다. 이는 일국전체(一國全體)의 자본형성(資本形成)에 있어서 기업(企業) 및 정부저축(政府貯蓄)이 매우 중요한 정책변수(政策變數)임을 시사하는 것으로 가계저축율(家計貯蓄率), 나아가 국내저축율(國內貯蓄率)의 제고(提高) 및 유지(維持)를 위해 기업저축증대(企業貯蓄增大)를 위한 제반유인정책(諸般誘因政策)을 꾸준히 강화하고 정부저축증대(政府貯蓄增大)를 위한 효율적이고 건전한 재정운용(財政運用)이 지속되어야 할 것이다. 한편 정부재정지출(政府財政支出)은 적자(赤字)에 의하는 조세(租稅)에 의하든 민간소비(民間消費)를 큰 폭으로 증가시키는 것으로 나타나 가계(家計)의 초합리성가설(初合理性假說)이나 완전(完全)한 선견가설(先見假說)이 상정하는 바와 같이 재정정책(財政政策)의 완전(完全)한 구축효과(驅逐效果)가 나타남에 따른 재정정책(財政政策)의 무력성(無力性) 결과(結果)와 대조적으로 우리나라의 재정정책(財政政策)이 그동안 경제안정(經濟安定)을 위한 강력한 정책수단(政策手段)으로서의 역할을 수행해 왔음을 보여주고 있다.
