Textile printing prints around twenty bilion linear meters of textile each year. Rotary and flat bed screen printing requires pre and post treatments, leading to the loss of dyes and the environmental problems due to effluents. Digital ink jet printing can offer a solution to the existing problems, especially the environmental problems, in addition to its flexibility. Pigments are used as a dispersion inks in the digital inkjet textile printing. Molecular dynamic simulation like Stokesian dynamic simulation was employed to simulate the behavior of pigments and velocity distribution under the pressure driven flow in the printer nozzle. The simulation shows that the particle distribution in the flow are uniform if particle volume fraction is low, the ratio of nozzle and particle diameter is large, and the dimensionless average suspension velocity is low.
Magnetic Fe-Co(C) nanocapsules and Fe-Co nanoparticles were prepared by arc-discharge in two kinds of atmospheres, i.e. methane and a mixture of ($H_2$+Ar), respectively. Characterization and magnetic properties of this two kinds of ultrafine particles were investigated systematically by means of X-ray diffraction, Mssbauer spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy disperse spectroscopy analysis, chemical analysis, oxygen determination and magnetization measurement. Effects of carbon element, decomposed from a methane atmosphere in carbon arc process, on phase structures, magnetic states and surface characterization were studied in comparison to that of Ar element. Two ultrafine particles showed a little difference in the weight ratio of (Fe/co) and the size for Fe-Co nanoparticles was about two times bigger than Fe-Co(C) nanocapsules. The saturation magnetization of Fe-Co (C) nanocapsules was about 8% higher than that of Fe-Co nanoparticles while their phase constitutions were similar. Although no carbon could be detected by XRD measurement because of extremely thin shells on the surfaces of the cores, it is still believed that they are carbon and oxygen layers.

In this study the cleaning spherical beads with same density as water were fabricated. Bead moving velocity was measured with respect to the aeration rate and bead concentration in water reservoir. The permeation experiments for FR (filtration and relaxation) and SFCO (sinusoidal filtration continuous operation) modes were simultaneously carried out under the condition of 1 to 3% cleaning spherical bead concentration, 20 LMH and 500 mL/min aeration rate in the MLSS 8,000 mg/L activated sludge solution. The used membrane was the $90cm^2$ effective area and $0.4{\mu}m$ nominal pore size flat membrane. The TMP (transmembrane pressure) decreased as the bead concentration increased, and was shown most effective in FR mode with 2% bead concentration.
The dimensionless extinction constants of smoke particles produced from burning of soy methyl ester (B100) biodiesel and ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuels were measured. To this end, optical measurements of smoke volume fraction with the aid of a He-Ne laser at 633 nm were compared to the simultaneous gravimetric measurements. The average value of measured dimensionless extinction constants at 633 nm was 11.8 for biodiesel smoke particles and 11.1 for diesel smoke particles, respectively whose values are very comparable withing the range of measurement uncertainty (${\pm}10.1%$). The analysis of Raman spectroscopy revealed that overall characteristics of light extinction between particles produced from each fuel may differ from each other.
The chemical engrafting of polymers on particle surface, plays an important role on selective partitioning of micro/nano-particles in the separated layers of liquid media, such as aqueous two phase systems (ATPSs). Three polymers, dextran, poly (ethylene glycol) and albumin were chosen and chemically conjugated to the polystyrene (PS) magnetic microparticle surface. The attachment of long-chained polymer chains which may switch the partition behavior, can be simply performed by SN2 substitution of various polymers having primary amine functional groups, with p-toluenesulfonyl (tosyl)-activated polystyrene magnetic micro-particles. The surface modification of microparticle was probed by infrared microscopy. The distinctive peak represents N-H stretching vibration mode for microparticles after the reaction and it is common for all three polymers examined. The locations of main peaks are similar for all micro-particles but different and distinguishable in fingerprint region.
Nanoparticles are used in various fields such as chemistry, medicine, the environment, and information and communication. With the increasing use of engineered nanomaterials, exposure to nanoparticles is expected to increase in the workplace and the environmental media. However, while nanotechnology industries are expanding, research on the exposure assessment of nanomaterials to humans and the environment is only at a beginning stage. Especially, if nanoparticles with a size of 100 nm or less that are contained in nano-products are released unintentionally, they may pose potential risks to the human body through breathing or skin exposure. Therefore, in this work, the possibility of potential exposure of nanoparticles moving from the laboratory to the office was confirmed, and nanoparticle safety guidelines are proposed. A nano-collector was used to detect nanoparticles in the atmosphere, and through use of a scanning mobility particle sizer it was found that nanoparticle concentrations in the laboratory and the office tended to be similar. On the assumption that nanoparticles attached to a lab-coat move out of the laboratory, a lab-coat to which nanocarbon black was attached was shaken and the concentration of the remaining particles on the lab-coat determined. The results confirmed that sufficient amounts of nanoparticles attached to the lab-coat could move from the laboratory to the office along the path of a researcher; thus, safety guidelines for the handling of lab-coat nanoparticles are required.

In this study, we deposited silver nanoparticles on the nanocone array structure which was fabricated by the UV nanoimprint process for optical signal amplification. The deposition of the silver nanoparticles was based on the evaporation behavior of the solution droplet according to wettability of surface and the deposition pattern changed from the center of the droplet to the edge depending on the difference of thermal energy. The optical property of silver nanoparticles that were deposited on imprinted nanohole patterns was simulated by the Finite difference time domain (FDTD) analysis method, and it was confirmed that energy was concentrated around the silver nanoparticle of the finally fabricated structure.

Behaviors of cemented engineered soils, composed of rigid sand particle and soft rubber particle, are investigated under $K_o$ condition. The uncemented and cemented specimens are prepared with various sand volume fractions to estimate the effect of the cementation in mixtures. The vertical deformation and elastic wave velocities with vertical stress are measured. The bender elements and PZT sensors are used to measure elastic wave velocities. After cementation, the slope of vertical strain shows bilinear and is similar to that of uncemented specimen after decementation. Normalized vertical strains can be divided into capillary force, cementation, and decementation region. The first deflection of the shear wave in near field matches the first arrival of the primary wave. The elastic wave velocities dramatically increase due to cementation hardening under the fixed vertical stress, and are almost identical with additional stress. After decementation, the elastic wave velocities increase with increase in the vertical stress. The effect of cementation hinders the typical rubber-like, sand-like, and transition behaviors observed in uncemented specimens. Different mechanism can be expected in decementation of the rigid-soft particle mixtures due to the sand fraction. a shape change of individual particles in low sand fraction specimens; a fabric change between particles in high sand fraction specimens. This study suggests that behaviors of cemented engineered soils, composed of rigid-soft particles, are distinguished due to the cementation and decementation from those of uncemented specimens.
