  • Hyperspectral remote sensing data contain plenty of information about objects, which makes object classification more precise. In this paper, we proposed a new spectral similarity measure, called Spectral Mutual Information (SMI) for hyperspectral image classification problem. It is derived from the concept of mutual information arising in information theory and can be used to measure the statistical dependency between spectra. SMI views each pixel spectrum as a random variable and classifies image by measuring the similarity between two spectra form analogy mutual information. The proposed SMI was tested to evaluate its effectiveness. The evaluation was done by comparing the results of preexisting classification method (SAM, SSV). The evaluation results showed the proposed approach has a good potential in the classification of hyperspectral images.

  • A computer code that is based on the Pseudo-spectral finite difference algorithm using staggered grid is developed for the wave propagation modeling in the time domain. The advantage of a finite difference approximation is that any geometrically complicated media can be modeled. Staggered grids are advantageous as it provides much more accuracy than using a regular grid. Pseudo-spectral methods are those that evaluate spatial derivatives by multiplying a wavenumber by the Fourier transform of a pressure wave-field and performing the inverse Fourier transform. This method is very stable and reduces memory and the number of computations. The synthetic results by this algorithm agree with the analytic solution in the infinite and half space. The time domain modeling was implemented in various models. such as half-space. Pekeris waveguide, and range dependent environment. The snapshots showing the total wave-field reveals the Propagation characteristic or the acoustic waves through the complex ocean environment.

  • This paper is an overview of research contributions by the authors to the use of compression techniques to handle high resolution, multi-spectral images. Originally developed in the remote sensing context, the same techniques are here applied to food and medical images. The objective is to point out the potential of this kind of processing in different contexts such as remote sensing, food monitoring, and medical imaging and to stimulate new research exploitations. Compression is based on the simple assumption that it is possible to find out a relationship between pixels close one each other in multi-spectral images it translates to the possibility to say that there is a certain degree of correlation within pixels belonging to the same band in a close neighbourhood. Once found a correlation based on certain coefficient on one band, the coefficients of this relationship are, in turn, quite probably, similar to the ones calculated in one of the other bands. Based upon this second observation, an algorithm was developed, able to reduce the number of bit/pixel from 16 to 4 in satellite remote sensed multi-spectral images. A comparison is carried out between different methods about their speed and compression ratio. As reference it was taken the behaviour of three common algorithms, LZW (Lempel-Ziv-Welch), Huffman and RLE (Run Length Encoding), as they are used in common graphic format such as GIF, JPEG and PCX. The Presented methods have similar results in both speed and compression ratio to the commonly used programs and are to be preferred when the decompression must be carried out on line, inside a main program or when there is the need of a custom made compression algorithm.

  • Deep learning methodology, which has been actively studied in recent years, has improved the performance of artificial intelligence. Accordingly, systems utilizing deep learning have been proposed in various industries. In traffic systems, spatio-temporal graph modeling using GNN was found to be effective in predicting traffic speed. Still, it has a disadvantage that the model is trained inefficiently due to the memory bottleneck. Therefore, in this study, the road network is clustered through the graph clustering algorithm to reduce memory bottlenecks and simultaneously achieve superior performance. In order to verify the proposed method, the similarity of road speed distribution was measured using Jensen-Shannon divergence based on the analysis result of Incheon UTIC data. Then, the road network was clustered by spectrum clustering based on the measured similarity. As a result of the experiments, it was found that when the road network was divided into seven networks, the memory bottleneck was alleviated while recording the best performance compared to the baselines with MAE of 5.52km/h.

  • Spectral modeling synthesis (SMS) has been used as a powerful tool for musical sound modeling. This technique considers a sound as a combination of a deterministic plus a stochastic component. The deterministic component is represented by the series of sinusoids that are described by amplitude, frequency, and phase functions and the stochastic component is represented by a series of magnitude spectrum envelopes that functions as a time varying filter excited by white noise. These representations make it possible for a synthesized sound to attain all the perceptual characteristics of the original sound. However, sometimes considerable phase variations occur in the deterministic component by using the conventional SMS for the complex sound such as whale sounds when the partial frequencies in successive frames differ. This is because it utilizes the calculated phase to synthesize deterministic component of the sound. As a result, it does not provide a good spectrum matching between original and synthesized spectrum in higher frequency region. To overcome this problem, we propose a modified SMS that provides good spectrum matching of original and synthesized sound by calculating complex residual spectrum in frequency domain and utilizing original phase information to synthesize the deterministic component of the sound. Analysis and simulation results for synthesizing whale sounds suggest that the proposed method is comparable to the conventional SMS in both time and frequency domain. However, the proposed method outperforms the SMS in better spectrum matching.

  • In order to classify Land Use/Land Cover using multispectral images, we have to give consequence to defining proper classes and selecting training sample with higher class separability. The process of satellite hyperspectral image which has a lot of bands is difficult and time-consuming. Furthermore, classification result of hyperspectral image with noise is often worse than that of a multispectral image. When selecting training fields according to the signatures in the study area, it is difficult to calculate covariance matrix in some clusters with pixels less than the number of bands. Therefore in this paper we presented an overview of feature extraction methods for classification of Hyperion data and examined effectiveness of feature extraction through the accuracy assesment of classified image. Also we evaluated the classification accuracy of optimal meaningful features by class separation distance, which is also a method for band reduction. As a result, the classification accuracies of feature-extracted image and original image are similar regardless of classifiers. But the number of bands used and computing time were reduced. The classifiers such as MLC, SAM and ECHO were used.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient datapath placement algorithm to minimize track density. Here, we consider each datapath element as a cluster, and merge the most strongly connected two clusters to a new cluster until only one cluster remains. As nodes in the two clusters to be merged are already linearly ordered respectively, we can merge two clusters with connecting them. The proposed algorithm produces circular linear ordering by connecting starting point and end point of the final cluster, and n different linear ordering by cutting between two contiguous elements of the circular linear ordering. Among the n different linear ordering, the linear ordering to minimize track density is final solution. In this paper, we show and utilize that if two clusters are strongly connected in a graph, the inner product of the corresponding vectors mapped in d-dimensional space using spectral method is maximum. Compared with previous datapath placement algorithm GA/S $A^{[2]}$, the proposed algorithm gives similar results with much less computation time.

  • Since the Northridge earthquake in 1994 and the Kobe earthquake in 1995 occurred, the concept of performance based design has been introduced for designing various kinds of important structures and buildings. Uniform hazard spectra (UHS), with annual exceedance probabilities, corresponding to the performance level of each structure, are required for performance-based design. The probabilistic seismic hazard analysis was performed using spectral ground motion prediction equations, which were developed from both Korean Peninsula and Central and Eastern US region, and several seismotectonic models suggested by 10 expert panel members in seismology and tectonics. The uniform hazard spectra for 5 highly populated cities in Korea, with recurrence period of 500, 1,000, and 2,500 years using the seismic hazard at the frequencies of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 5.0, 10.0 Hz and Peak ground acceleration (PGA) were analyzed using the probabilistic seismic hazard analysis. The sensitivity analysis suggests that spectral ground motion prediction equations impact much more on seismic hazard than what seismotectonic models do. The uniform hazard spectra commonly showed a maximum hazard at the frequency of 10 Hz and also showed the similar shape characteristics to the previous study and related technical guides to nuclear facilities.

  • In order to provide quantitative control of the standard products of Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI), on-board radiometric correction, atmospheric correction, and bio-optical algorithm are obtained continuously by comprehensive and consistent calibration and validation procedures. The calibration/validation for radiometric, atmospheric, and bio-optical data of GOCI uses temperature, salinity, ocean optics, fluorescence, and turbidity data sets from buoy and platform systems, and periodic oceanic environmental data. For calibration and validation of GOCI, we compared radiometric data between in-situ measurement and HyperSAS data installed in the Ieodo ocean research station, and between HyperSAS and SeaWiFS radiance. HyperSAS data were slightly different in in-situ radiance and irradiance, but they did not have spectral shift in absorption bands. Although all radiance bands measured between HyperSAS and SeaWiFS had an average 25% error, the 11% absolute error was relatively lower when atmospheric correction bands were omitted. This error is related to the SeaWiFS standard atmospheric correction process. We have to consider and improve this error rate for calibration and validation of GOCI. A reference target site around Dokdo Island was used for studying calibration and validation of GOCI. In-situ ocean- and bio-optical data were collected during August and October, 2009. Reflectance spectra around Dokdo Island showed optical characteristic of Case-1 Water. Absorption spectra of chlorophyll, suspended matter, and dissolved organic matter also showed their spectral characteristics. MODIS Aqua-derived chlorophyll-a concentration was well correlated with in-situ fluorometer value, which installed in Dokdo buoy. As we strive to solv the problems of radiometric, atmospheric, and bio-optical correction, it is important to be able to progress and improve the future quality of calibration and validation of GOCI.
