In this study, fire resistance performance of high strength concrete specimen with fireproof gypsum board was investigated for possible use in upgrading fire-resistant performance of the existing building and repair of fire damaged structures. Fire test of eight identical high strength concrete columns were carried out for 180 minutes in accordance with ISO-834. The temperature distributions in longitudinal reinforcement and concrete temperature at various depths were recorded. The fireproof performance of gypsum board and explosive spalling of concrete were observed. The specimens with 15 mm thick twoply fireproof gypsum board spalled after gypsum board crumbled regardless of fastening methods. However, when the thickness of fireproof gypsum board was more than 30 mm, it was possible to prevent the explosive spalling and control the rebar temperature. Although the effect of cover thickness could not be compared because the explosive spalling occurred, there seemed to be no difference in insulation efficiency.

This paper presents a preliminary study for air-tightness evaluation of vacuum tube structures for super-speed tube railway systems. The formula for flow rate of the air caused by the pressure difference of the inside and outside of the tube structure is derived based on Darcy's law. A test is then performed to measure the air-permeability of concrete with various compressive strengths, the result of which is used for analytical simulation of the air intrusion for a tube structure with a preliminarily defined section. It has been shown that concrete with the compressive strength of at least more than 50MPa is recommended for effective operation and maintenance of the vacuum pump systems, as the air-permeability of concrete is inversely proportional to the exponent of its compressive strength.

Although the strength of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers which are generally used to make plastic bottles is low, the deformability of PET fibers is substantially high. Due to these material characteristics, a PET fiber can be used as a reliable strengthening material to resist a large deformation caused by earthquake and research pertinent to application of PET fibers is actively conducted in Japan. Therefore, in this study, experiments have been carried out to investigate the lateral confinement effect of PET fibers and to assess the applicability of PET fibers to construction fields by comparing the strengthening effect of PET fibers to that of carbon and glass fiber sheets. For this purpose, concrete cylinder specimens with parameters of different concrete strength and strengthening layers of carbon fiber sheets, glass fiber sheets, and PET fibers were respectively tested using two sets of cylinders for each parameter. As a result, specimens strengthened with carbon fiber sheets and glass fiber sheets failed due to sudden decrease of strength as with existing studies. However, specimens with PET fibers reached their maximum strength and then failed after gradual decrease strength without failure of PET fibers. In addition, although the strength of specimens with PET fibers did not significantly increase in comparison with that of specimens with carbon fiber sheets and glass fiber sheets, specimens with PET fibers indicated considerable deformability. Thus, a PET fiber can be considered as an effective strengthening material.

Researches and studies which have been conducted so far on external confinement of long span concrete columns have mainly concentrated on concentric loading. But, long span bridge concrete columns over the sea are mainly subjected to concentrated axial load, and at the same time lange amount of moment by eccentric load. This paper experimentally investigates the performance of externally confined high-strength concrete columns subjected to loading mechanism and evaluates the effectiveness of two confinement materials carbon fibre and high performance glass fibre. Twelve short columns with the same dimensions were cast and tested Six columns were reinforced with hoop bars, the remaining six columns were reinforced with spiral bars and wrapped with three layers of carbon failure and high performance glass FRP sheets. Test variables considered were the shape of internal reinforcement and strengthening materials according to loading location. The experimental results showed that eccentric load could obviously lower down the maximum failure load of FRP-confined concrete columns, compared with the columns under concentric load. And compared with the carbon FRP-confined reinforced concrete columns, high performance glass FRP-confined columns displayed a higher load capacity and ductility, when tested both concentrically and eccentrically.

There are several basic classes of recycling methods for FRP boats. The main one is 'Mechanical recycling' which involves shredding and grinding of the scrap FRP in a new product. That is one of the simpler and more technically proven methods. It recently has been reported that FRP can be recycled by separating into layers instead of crushing into powder. Many researchers should be more interested in these mechanical recycling for the eligibility. Nevertheless, because resins is very useful renewable energy, most of waste FRP regenerating methods depend on incineration (reclamation) or thermal recycling (pyrolysis). FRP is made up of laminated glass- fiber (roving cloth layer) which is also very unlikely to break into each layer. If there is an extracting method which is efficient and environment friendly removing glass fiber from waste FRP, it should also solve the another urgent problem. Laminated glass-fiber which is very limited renewable, is a serious barrier to wast FRP boat regenerating. This study is to propose a new extracting method which is efficient and environment friendly waste FRP regenerating system. And it should be applied to renewable energy applications with the waste resins of FRP. Also recycling glass fiber obtained by the separation of the roving layer from waste FRP will be consider to be useful for concrete products or structures.
This study has been performed to test the flowability and filling ability of high flowing concrete as well as distribution of aggregate and pore of core specimen, heat of hydration, compressive strength and core strength of concrete. In addition, the resistance to chloride ion penetration and chemical solutionof concrete was tested in order to evaluate the resistance to sea water of concrete and its application of high flowing concrete using blended low heat cement in the field of Seohae Grand Bridge. The properties of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement were compared with ordinary 25-240-15 concrete using Type V cement. As the results of this study, the flowability and filling ability of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement is satisfied without vibration. Though the cement content of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement was 400kg/m$^2$, the rising temperature of it was relatively lower than that of the ordinary 25-240-15 concrete with Type V cement. Also, the compressive of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement is similar to that of the ordinary 25-240-15 concrete with Type V cement.

Blast furnace slag, a by-product of the steel industry, is mostly recycled as concrete admixture, but electric arc furnace slag has not been recycled to date. In particular, since electric arc furnace slag partially contains free lime (free-CaO) in the discharge, it is necessary to review this in order to recycle f or construction materials. Recently an atomizing process which is a method of rapidly cooling electric arc furnace slag has been developed and applied. Therefore, in order to use the fine aggregate of oxidized slag from electric furnace restored by this method as an aggregate for concrete, physical damage and chemical reviewing are required. In this study, a physical and chemical review was conducted on the fine aggregate of Electric Arc Furnace Oxidizing Slag (EFOS) as a by-product of the steel manufacturing process with atomizing process. In this experimental study, EFOS was experimentally examined about whether it can be used as concrete fine aggregate. Also, we intend to provide basic data for the future use of the EFOS fine aggregate. As a result of the experimental study, it was found that the fine aggregate of the EFOS satisfied the quality standards of the fine aggregate for concrete in most items specified by Korean Standard.

Based on Model Code 2010, flexural and residual strength, flexural toughness of SFRC with design strength of 60 MPa are evaluated. For comparisons, SFRC with design strength 40 MPa was tested. Distribution of steel fibers in crack surface of specimens was evaluated by visual inspection. The used steel fibers were hooked fibers with aspect ratio of 64, 67 and 80. In all specimens, mix ratio of steel fibers was 0.5% Vol. In results, only SFRC with the highest aspect ratio satisfied requirements specified in Model Code 2010. The results demonstrated that the use of high aspect ratio will provide enough flexural toughness for high strength concrete. Also, it is found that low slump of high strength concrete can help to enhance isotropic fiber distribution.
