  • In this paper, Glass Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic (GFRTP) for automotive headlight source module was fabricated by compounding and injection molding using PPS (Poly Phenylene Sulfide) resin with glass fiber which has three cross section (round type, cocoon type, flat type). Tensile, flexural, impact properties were investigated on effect of cross section, glass fiber contents. And it was observed flatness, dimensional stability, fluidity depending on glass fiber cross section. As a result, flat glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic's mechanical properties were most excellent. Also, dimensional stability and flatness showed better results when using flat glass fiber.

  • The GFRP composite is used for hot press flow molding of automotive components, and the different flow rates of fiber and plastic are likely to induce fiber orientation and inhomogeneity in the material. However, very limited systematic research studies are available on composite materials with superior flow homogeneity and optimized fiber orientation. The inhomogeneity and fiber orientation issues of GFRP composites have still not been resolved through research. The plain weaving method applied to the GFRP prepreg can improve its recyclability, inhomogeneity, fiber flow, structural stability, fiber deformation, surface smoothness, degree of impregnation, and other mechanical properties. The need for more detailed and thorough studies is evidenced.

  • The fiber-reinforced composite materials have been advanced for various applications because of their excellent mechanical and electromagnetic properties. On their manufacturing processes, however, thermo-curing inherently produces the undesired thermal deformation mainly from temperature drop from the process temperature to the room temperature, so called spring-back. The spring-back must be understood especially in the hybrid composites in order to design and fabricate desired shape. In this research, (glass fiber / epoxy) + (carbon fiber / epoxy) unsymmetric hybrid composites were fabricated under various conditions such as cure cycle, laminate thickness, stacking sequence and curing sequence. Coupons were made and spring-back were measured using coordinate measuring machine (CMM). Using the Classical Lamination Theory (CLT) and finite element analysis (ANSYS), the behavior of spring-back were predicted and compared with the experimental data. The results from CLT and FEA agreed well with the experimental data. Although, the spring-back could be reduced by lowering curing temperature, at any case, the spring-back could not be removed completely.

  • This research is focused on the investigation of impact strength and the microscopic observation of material behavior of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene in solid phase forming. The fiber weight per-centage of the composite materials was 20%, 30% and 40%. The solid-phase formed specimens were pre-strained to 10%,20%. and 30% strain levels. The forming temperatures of specimens were $100^{\circ}C$, $125^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$. Izod impact test was performed with unnotched specimens. With increasing the glass fiber content ; the impact strength was increased.

  • This study was conducted to estimate peeling and vapor adsorption properties made with fabric glass fiber reinforced laminated timber according to our earlier report(Jung et al., 2002). In adsorption peeling test, three all types solid wood were not appeared the peeling. However, solid wood appeared to the peeling in boiling peeling test except for control wood. Vapor adsorption test was performed at 40℃, 90% relative humidity for 48 hours. Cross sections were not different all solid wood. Radial section and tangential section with glass fiber were delayed vapor adsorption compared to control wood. In anisotropy of vapor adsorption, solid wood with glass fiber were small values.

  • In various industry, the composite is tried to be applied to products and thermoplastic based composite is in the spotlight because this composite can be recycled. The use of continuous fiber thermoplastic (CFT) method increased gradually than long fiber thermoplastic (LFT). In this study, tensile, flexural, and impact test of different array types of glass fiber (GF)/thermoplastic composites were performed to compare with GF array. Impregnation property between GF mat and thermoplastic was determined using computed tomography (CT). At CFT method, thermoplastic film is not wet into GF roving and many voids are appeared into composite. This phenomenon affects to decrease mechanical properties. Plain pattern GF mat was the best mechanical and impregnation properties that distance between two roving was set closely to $100{\mu}m$.

  • In this study, the effect of mechanical and chemical properties of glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic (GFRTPs) according to the number of recycling was confirmed. The composite materials were manufactured through a hot press compression molding process using an E-glass chopped strand mat and a polypropylene film. Four specimens were named according to the number of recycled test repeat: First manufacture, 1st Recycle, 2nd Recycle, and 3rd Recycle. To investigate the mechanical properties of the prepared specimen, tensile test, flexural test, drop-weight impact test, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and field emission electron gun-scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) was performed. As a result, as the number of recycling steps repeat, the degree of crystallization, tensile strength, elastic modulus, and flexural strength were increased, but the impact properties were greatly reduced.
