The usage of ultra-precision machining is increasing by the manufacturing of precision optical elements such as camera lens, laser printer, CD player, DVD and microscope parts etc.. The WC alloy material is in wide use by mold core to improve the productivity and accuracy in manufacturing those precision parts. The WC alloy mould core can be machined effectively by the parallel grinding process which is an excellent technique for manufacturing of surface profile hard to machining materials such as the hardened metal alloy, Ceramics, Glass and so on. Magnetic assisted polishing as a final polishing process has also been utilized to obtain ultra-precision mirror surface with the elimination of traces presented on ground surface. It is able to deduce the optimal ultra-precision machining conditions of the WC alloy material from the experiment and analyses results.

Recently, due to the tremendous growth of media technology, demands of the aspheric glass lens which is a high-performance and miniaturized increase gradually. Generally, the aspheric glass lens is manufactured by Glass Molding Press (GMP) method using tungsten carbide (WC) mold core. In this study, the thermal deformation which was occurred by GMP process was analyzed and applied it to compensate the aspheric glass lens. The compensated lens was satisfied that can be applied to the actual specifications.

The characteristics of tool wear and the machinability in cutting of GFRP have been studied. The wear behavior of carbide insert tools(P20, M10, K10) and Cermet in TiC grade was studied by turning of changing the cutting condition. Machinability could be estimated as the following empirical formula, CT$^{n}$ =W The main results obtained are as follows: (1) Dependence of rate of tool wear on cutting speed; with increases of cutting speed, the rate of tool wear initially increases gradually(1st range), then it increases proportionally to cutting speed(2nd range), and finally the rate is constant(3rd range). (2) When the contact length has a main, effect on tool wear, the cutting speed does nit affect the tool wear. On the contrary, the cutting speed has a main effect on tool wear, the contact length does not affect the tool wear. (3) The order of machinability is K10, M10, P20 and Cermet in TiC grade.
Diamond is the hardest material known to humans, also possesses the highest thermal conductivity and a very low thermal expansion coefficient. Therefore, these properties of diamond make them logical choices for many difficult grinding application. Bonding material is a very important factor to performance of a grinding wheel. Grinding glass constitutes one of the major application areas of diamond grinding wheels, and Cu-Sn tin bronze matrix is widely used as a metal bond of diamond wheel in grinding glass but these studies are rarely reported. The bronze test pieces excluding diamond are sintered by the method of hot sizing respectively at $600^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$, $700^{\circ}C$, with a composition(Cu-10wt%Sn) on ${\alpha}$ phase and two compositions(Cu-20wt%Sn and Cu-23wt%Sn) on ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ phase. The rupture strength of Cu-10wt%Sn is highest. The bronze bonded diamond wheels are manufactured by same conditions as the bronze test pieces. The results of grinding ratio of wheels are highest in case of Cu-10wt%Sn bonded wheel sintered at $650^{\circ}C$ and grinding power is highest in same composition sintered at $700^{\circ}C$.

ELID(Electrolytic In-process Dressing) grinding is an excellent technique for mirror grinding of various advanced metallic or nonmetallic materials. A polishing process is also required for elimination of scratches present on ELID grinded surfaces. MAP(Magnetic Assisted Polishing) has been used as polishing method due to its high polishing efficiency and to its resulting in a superior surface quality. This study is describing an effective fabrication method combining ELID and MAP of nano-precision mirror grinding for glass-lens molding mould. It also presents some techniques for achieving the nanometer roughness of the hard metals, such as WC-Co, which are extensively used in precision tooling material.

Electrolytic In-process Dressing (ELID) technique for metal bonded diamond grinding wheel has been developed for mirror surface grinding of hard and brittle materials. This study process optical glass in using Electrolytic In-process Dressing. In using to main variable wheel speed (400rpm~2000rpm),feed rate (5$\mu\textrm{m}$/min~25$\mu\textrm{m}$/min),depth of cut (3$\mu\textrm{m}$~5$\mu\textrm{m}$),dressing and spray. We measured surface roughness in representative brittle materials

In this research, the optimal grinding condition has been obtained by design of experiment (DOE) fur the development of aspheric lens for the 3 Mega Pixel, 2.5x optical zoom camera-phone module. Also, the tungsten carbide (WC) mold was processed by the method of ultra precision grinding under this optimal grinding condition. The influence of diamond-liked carbon (DLC) coating on form accuracy (PV) and surface roughness (Ra) of the mold was evaluated through measurements after DCL coating using ion plating on the ground mold. Also, aspheric glass lenses were molded, some before DLC coating of the mold and some after the DLC coating. The optical characteristics of each sample, molded by the different molds, were compared with each other.

This study focused on the application of ELID mirror-surface grinding technology to the manufacture of off-axis asymmetric large-area reflecting mirrors made of BK7 glass. The size of the parts, such as asymmetric large-area mirrors or lens, made form-accuracy or roughness especially hard to measure after machining because of the measuring range limit of measurement devices. In this study, the ELID grinding system has been set up for mirror-surface machining experiments manufacturing off-axis asymmetric lenses. A measuring method using a reference workpiece has been suggested to measure the form-accuracy and roughness. According to the experimental results, even when using only a reference workpiece, it is confirmed that the surface roughness was 8 nmRa and form-accuracy was 80 nmRMS, with a best fit asymmetric radius when using a grinding wheel of #8,000. It is found that the accuracy of large-area parts could be estimated by the proposed process.

Since polycrystalline diamond (PCD) has high hardness like diamond, it has been used as tool material for lathe and milling of non-ferrite material. A micro tool fabricated from PCD material can be used for micro machining of hard material such as tungsten carbide, glass, and ceramics. In this paper, micro PCD tools were fabricated by micro EDM (electrical discharge machining) and used for micro grinding of glass. Craters generated on the tool surface by EDM spark work as like grits in grinding process. The effects of tool shapes, tool roughness and PCD grain size were investigated. Also studied was a hybrid process combining electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM) and micro grinding for micro-structuring of glass.

The aspheric lens has become the most popular optical component used in various optical devices such as digital cameras, pick-up lenses, printers, copiers etc. Using aspheric lenses not only miniaturizes and reduces the weight of products, but also lower prices and higher field angles can be realized. Additionally, plastic lenses are being changed to glass lenses more recently because of low accuracy, low acid-resistance and low thermal-resistance in the plastic lenses. Currently, one fabrication method of glass lenses is using a glass-mold method with a high precision mold core for mass production. In this paper, DOE (Design Of Experiments) and compensation machining were adopted to improve the surface roughness and the form accuracy of the mold core. The DOE has been done in order to discover the optimal grinding conditions which minimize the surface roughness with factors such as work spindle revolution, turbine spindle revolution, federate and cutting depth. And the compensation machining is used to generate high form accuracy of the mold core. From various experiments and analyses, we could obtain the best surface roughness 5 nm in Ra, form accuracy $0.167\;{\mu}m$ in PV.
