  • Among modern computer vision and video surveillance systems, the pedestrian counting system is a one of important systems in terms of security, scheduling and advertising. In the field of, pedestrian counting remains a variety of challenges such as changes in illumination, partial occlusion, overlap and people detection. During pedestrian counting process, the biggest problem is occlusion effect in crowded environment. Occlusion and overlap must be resolved for accurate people counting. In this paper, we propose a novel pedestrian counting system which improves existing pedestrian tracking method. Unlike existing pedestrian tracking method, proposed method shows that average filter tracking method can improve tracking performance. Also proposed method improves tracking performance through frame compensation and outlier removal. At the same time, we keep various information of tracking objects. The proposed method improves counting accuracy and reduces error rate about S6 dataset and S7 dataset. Also our system provides real time detection at the rate of 80 fps.

  • Triangular structure is used as basic shape of artificial structures for generating the upwelling current in order to make rich fishing ground at sea. Artificial upwelling current could bring the deep sea water containing a lot of nutrients from the bottom up to the surface. The purpose of this study is to examine the flow characteristics around underwater triangular structure with various stratification parameter. An experimental study was carried out for the triangular structure model in the circulating water channel to investigate flow characteristics by flow visualization method. A velocity fields around the underwater structure were measured by particle image velocimetry(PIV). The experimental results showed that the upwelling effect at the back and upper region of the structure could be best when the water depth was 2 times of the structure height and the stratification parameter was approximately 3.0. These quantitative data will be useful to determine the functional efficiency cf artificial upwelling structures.

  • Recent experimental data shows that the noticeable feature of irregular roughened spots on the fuel surface occurs during the combustion test. The generation of these unexpected patterns is likely to be resulted from the disturbed boundary layer due caused by wall blowing which is intended to simulate the process of fuel vaporization. LES without chemical reaction was conducted to investigate the flow characteristics at the near-fuel surface and the behavior of turbulent structures which is evolved by the wall blowing at the Reynolds number of 23,000. Cylindrical geometry was considered to get the most reality of the calculation results because real hybrid rocket motor is circular grain configuration. It was shown that the wall blowing pushed turbulent structures upwards making them tilted and this skewed displacement, in effect, left the foot prints of the structures on the surface. This change of kinematics may explain the formation of irregular isolated spots on the fuel surface observed in the experiment.

  • The efficiency of railway track cleaning vehicle for eliminating fine particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) in a subway tunnel depends strongly on the structure of the air blowing and suction system installed under the train. To increase the efficiency of underbody suction system, this paper proposes a novel method to use the Coanda effect for the air blower and dust suction module. In particular, through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis, the flow control device induced by the Coanda effect enables an increase in the overall flow velocity and to stabilize the flow distribution of the suction module at a control angle of $90^{\circ}$. In addition, the flow velocity drop at the edge of the air knife-type blower can be improved by placing small inserts at the edge of the blower. Those 4 modular designs of the dust suction system can help remove the dust accumulated on the track and tunnel by optimizing the blowing and suction flows.

  • For study on the unsteady wall interference effect, flows around a circular cylinder in closed test-section wind tunnels have been numerically investigated by solving compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The numerical scheme is based on a node-based finite-volume method with the Roe's flux-difference splitting and an implicit time-integration method coupled with dual time-step sub-iteration. The computed results showed that the unsteady pressure gradient over the cylinder is enhanced by the wall interference, and as a result the fluctuations of lift and drag are augmented. The drag is further increased because of the lower base pressure. The vortex shedding frequency is also increased by the wall interference. The pressure on the test section wall shows the harmonics having the shedding frequency contained in the wall effect.

  • A considerable amount of researches has been performed to investigate the flow characteristics produced in the cavity system over straight wall. However, many practical applications of the cavity flows are found on curved walls, which are strongly subject to the centrifugal force effects. No work has been made on the cavity flows on the curved wall to date. In the present study, a computational fluid dynamics method has been applied to investigate the cavity flows over curved walls at Mach numbers in range of 0.4 to 0.8. The aspect ratio of the cavity was fixed at L/H=3, but the radius of curvature of the curved wall is changed in considering the real engineering practice. The results reveal that the pressure oscillations in the curved walls are stronger than those in the straight wall. It is found that the ratio of curvature of the curved wall significantly affects the unsteady flow characteristics inside the cavity.

  • Most of the work has been done till now focused on flows over wall mounted cavities in a straight wall where the incoming flow is uniform. However, the investigation on such kind of flow over a cavity mounted on the curved walls has been seldom reported in the existing literatures. In the present study, the numerical analysis was performed to investigate the cavity flow mounted on the curved walls. The effects of wall shape, the curvature radius and the flow Mach number, were investigated for high-subsonic flows. The results show that the static pressure of cavity floor increases as the L/R increases. This effect is found to be more significant when the flow Mach number is higher. The cavity drag for the curved walls are higher as compared with that of straight wall.

  • This paper presents numerical study on flow and heat transfer characteristics in micro-gap plate heat exchanger. In particular, we investigate the effect of flow inertia on the flow distribution from single main channel to multiple parallel micro-gaps. The flow regime of the main channel is varied from laminar regime (Reynolds number of 100) to turbulent regime (Reynolds number of 10000) by changing the flow rate, and non-uniformity of the flow distribution and temperature field is evaluated quantitatively based on the standard deviation. The flow distribution is found to be significantly affected by not only the header design but also the flow rate of the main channel. It is also observed that the non-uniformity of the temperature field has its maximum at the intermediate flow regime.

  • In this study, computational fluid dynamics was used to analyze the flow bias generated as air supplied by a fan passes through ducts, piping, and a coal separation screen. The flow bias of the air flow is mostly caused by the spatial characteristics of the fan volute and duct, and the internal baffle and the coal separation screen at the outlet cause strong pressure losses that dampen the flow bias. ANSYS CFX was used for computational fluid dynamics, and since the baffle and the coal separation screen are shaped like perforated plates with many small holes uniformly distributed, actual modeling for analysis was not possible. Therefore, the Porous Loss Model was applied. The evaluation of the flow bias was analyzed based on the velocity distribution of the Porous Loss Model at the outlet surface of the coal separation screen obtained from the computational fluid dynamics results.

  • The present study aims at investigating the effectiveness of a new passive cavity flow control technique, sub-cavity. The characteristics of cavity flow oscillation with the device are compared with those with other control techniques tested previously, including a triangular bump and blowing jet. In the computation, the three-dimensional, unsteady Navier-Stokes equations governing the supersonic cavity flow are solved based on an implicit finite volume scheme spatially and multi-stage Runge-Kutta scheme temporally. Large eddy simulation (LES) is carried out to properly predict the turbulent features of cavity flow. The present results show that the pressure oscillation near the downstream edge dominates overall time-dependent cavity pressure variations, and the amplitude of the pressure oscillation can be reduced in the presence of a sub-cavity.
