  • Propagation of the guided waves in a steam generator (SG) tube was investigated. Dispersion curves and the incident angles corresponding to the specific modes were calculated for the SG tube. The modes of guided wave were identified by time-frequency diagrams obtained by short time Fourier transform. Group velocities were also determined from the time-frequency diagrams obtained at the different separations of transducers. In experiment. distinct mode conversion was not observed when the guided ultrasound passed curved region of the S/G tube. The optimum mode of guided wave for the inspection of SG tube was suggested and verified by experiments.

  • The goal of this study is to implement a communication system that can monitor the status of the nacelle using the power cable itself, without the dedicated communication lines such as an UTP cable and optical fiber for the offshore wind turbine. An inductive coupling powerline communication system for a MW class offshore wind turbine was proposed and its communication performance was demonstrated. The inductive couplers was designed for operation at up to 500 A using a ferrite composite materials. Field test was carried out on the wind farms of Jeju island. Using the iperf communication test program, we have obtained more than 15 Mbps data transmission rate through the 100 m power cable that was installed between the nacelle and the bottom of the power converter. In the data transmission stability test for a week, there was no failure ever. The minimum transmission rate was 15 Mbps and the average data rate was about 20 Mbps. Next, we have installed an infrared camera inside the nacelle in order to measure the temperature distribution and variation of the nacelle. The real-time thermal image taken by the camera was successfully sent to the monitoring system without error.

  • Phytophthora blight of pepper, which is caused by Phytophthora capsici Leonian, is not only the most destructive disease worldwide, but also difficult to control effectively. It has been needed to have new trials for effective control to the disease. We employed radiation hormesis of gamma ray as the new trial in the control strategy. Two cultivars, Kwangbok and Dabok, were used to analyse whether gamma ray radiation can induce disease resistance. The germination rate of pepper seeds was significantly enhanced by the radiation at all dose levels. Stimulatory effect for resistance induction was found to differ between cultivars. It was confirmed that the remarkable effect was induced in Dabok and depended on radiation dosage. Disease resistance at 4 Gy was much higher than that of control. On the other hand, no detectable induction effect for resistance was observed in Kwangbok which was moderate resistant cultivar to gamma ray radiation. • It is very important to predict and analyze the change of voltage and current distribution of current strap, abnormal voltage distribution of transmission line and resonance phenomenon by coupling between current straps for more stable operation of ICRF system. In this study, to understand those phenomena by coupling, 8-port coupled transmission line model is completed by appling S-parameter measured in the prototype KSTAR ICRF antenna to the model. The determined self-inductance, mutual-inductance and capacitance of antenna straps are shown to be lower than that calculated from 2D approximate model due to finite length of strap. The coupled transmission line model of current strap will be utilized to the operation of ICRF system of KSTAR in the future.

  • In this paper, we try to find the lifting-line method which is applicable to the conceptual design of aircraft wings, and analyze the accuracy and coverage of the method. Two methods that are extended from the lifting-line theory of Prandtl are selected. One of the methods is Weissinger's method which imposes the velocity boundary condition at the control points located at the quarter chord, and the other is Phillips's method which combines the three-dimensional vortex lifting law. Calculations are performed for an elliptic wing, a swept back wing, and a tapered unswept wing with dihedral angle and geometric twist. The aerodynamic data of the potential flow such as spanwise distributions of circulation and downwash, lift and induced drag are obtained through calculations, and these data are compared with theoretical results and wind tunnel test data. As a result, Weissinger's method showed good accuracy and reliability regardless of wing shapes, but Phillips's method revealed inaccurate results for a swept back wing.

  • In this paper, a periodically corrugated transmission line is proposed. The proposed transmission line can reduce crosstalk between transmission lines. The corrugated transmission line can adjust the amount of inductive coupling and capacitive coupling equally. Thus, the crosstalk is effectively reduced because the inductive coupling and capacitive coupling cancel each other. The corrugated transmission line is fabricated on RO4003 substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.38 and a thickness of 0.508 mm. The simulated far-end crosstalks of conventional transmission line and corrugated transmission line with a period of A=1 mm have maximum values of -3.6 dB and -22 dB, respectively, up to 30 GHz. Measurement results showed that far-end crosstalks of the conventional and corrugated transmission line have maximum values of -6.3 dB and -20.5 dB, respectively, up to 30 GHz.

  • Though the Hough transform is a well-known method for detecting analytical shape represented by a number of free parameters, the basic property of the Hough transform, the one-to-many mapping from an image space to a Hough space, causes the innate problem, the sensitivity to noise. To remedy this problem, Edge Strength Hough Transform (ESHT) was proposed and proved to reduce the noise sensitivity. However the performance of ESHT depends on the size of a Hough space and image and some other parameters which should be decided experimentally. In this paper, we derived formulae to decide 2 parameter values; decreasing parameter and broadening parameter, which play an important role in ESHT. Using the derived formulae, 2 parameter values can be decided only with the pre-determined values, the size of a Hough space and an image, which make it possible to decide them automatically. The experiments with different parameter values also support the result.

  • This paper presents load torque observer that is used to deadbeat control method in the induction motor(IM) precision position control system. The proposed algorithm shows robustness on induction servo motor system. All of the gain has been obtained on discrete domain analysis. The simulation has been obtained by the simulink. The results show that proposed system has good effectiveness for the disturbance of the induction servo motor system using DS1102 board.
