The technological risk has two major aspects. The one is technological aspect of the risk which consists of rules of nature and rational behaviors of humans. The other is social aspect of risk which consists of human values and nonrational and emotional behaviors of humans. So the technological risks should be called and treated as the technological and social risks. Because of these, not only technological professionals but also public people should have the chance to participate in the management of technological risks.

Korean society is a mixed risk society in terms of risk and distrust. This is because the risks and disasters of the farming and industrial societies, the modern and the information society, exist simultaneously in the present time. Ulrich Beck's point that the endless development of science and technology to acquire economic wealth is simultaneously entering a risk society is providing us with many implications. In this paper, we reviewed the Ulrich Beck's "reflexive modernization" theory in the late 20th century, pointing to the rise of a risk society as a result of the evolution of new modernization. This is because the "reflexive modernization" can be a direction in which we can reflect our wrong past from a human-centered perspective and design a desirable future. In this sense, it is important to present ways to overcome the dangerous society through the reinterpretation of Ulrich Beck, who advocated the modernization of reflectively. In order to overcome the future risks that the fourth industrial revolution will bring, we must provide direction for the government's security policies and public security consciousness.

The purposes of this study were to explore the perception of risk regarding an ageing society and to suggest the ways of preparation for an ageing society. Based on the social constructionist paradigm from Slovic as to the perception of risk and the perspectives of new social risks fromTaylor-Gooby, we observed risk perception of an ageing society in two ways: ordering of perceived risks and risk perception. Social survey research method was used for this study and data collected from 1,500 subjects aged 20 and over were analyzed. The results revealed that the risk perception of an ageing society was ranked 7th out of 11 social risks. 'Whether or not one perceived he/she lived in an ageing society', 'an ageing society's effects on one's lives', and 'educational background' were the significant variables influencing the ordering of perceived risks of an ageing society. Also, perception of risk regarding an ageing society was significantly associated with 'relation of ageing society with his/her own life', 'an ageing society's effects on one's lives', and 'educational background'. Further discussion for the preparation of an ageing society was provided based on these results.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of social trust on risk perception. In other words, I tried to analyze empirically how the generalized trust about other people they have based on subjective perception of Seoul citizens affects the perception of risk factors. First, the risk factors that Seoul citizens face in everyday life are classified into five categories: natural disaster, technical disaster risk, economic risk, social disintegration risk and health risk. Then, the influence of social trust on each of these risk perception was analyzed by multiple regression model. The results show that social trust has a statistically significant negative impact on all types of risk perception. These results imply that social trust makes low-risk assessments of various risk factors around people. The implication of this study is that the responsibility for risk is given to the central and local governments in the modern risk society. In order to prevent effective risk, it is necessary to make efforts to promote social trust through various activities together with efforts to prevent the spread of unfounded risk will be. And trust among people also promotes cooperation in coping with risks, so it is necessary to promote communication and mutual understanding that can build trust among people in their daily life.

This study aims to discuss the role and function of social capital in explaining social risk perception among female-headed households. This study analyzed the level of social risk perception and its determinant factors of female-headed households using 2020 Social Survey data from Statistics Korea. The analysis revealed that socio-demographic factors and social capital influenced the perception of social risk. In addition, the social capital related to social safety was associated with the level of social risk perception. Even after controlling for various factors, the social risk perception level among female-headed households was higher than among male-headed ones. Among female-headed households, social capital such as compliance with regulations or ability to cope with risk; demographic factors such as age, residential area, and health status; and economic factors such as income level and housing type were found to affect social risk perception. Based upon the findings this study devises ways to accumulate social capital that can be obtained in cooperative relationships between families and communities.

The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that influence the risk perception of reality on social media. Specifically, we analyzed how exposure to risk issues through media and bridging/bonding social capital influence social and personal risk perception. Here, we categorized risk issues into infectious diseases, sex crimes, and radioactive contamination. Findings are as follows. The effect that the type of media and social capital have on risk perception vary depending on the risk issues. Regarding issues of disease and radiation, bridging social capital had a positive effect on social risk perception whereas bonding social capital had a negative effect on personal risk perception. In the case of sex crimes, bonding social capital affected both social and personal risk perception negatively, and an interaction effect between exposures and social capital could be found. The significance of this study is that it considers both media variables from previous studies and social capital variables essential to social media studies and combines the two in order to study the factors that influence risk perception.
