  • Although motion estimation Plays an important role in digital video compression, complex search procedure is required to find an optimal motion vector. To reduce the search time, the search start point should be set up properly md efficient search pattern is needed. If the overall motion of the torrent block can be predicted, motion estimation can be performed efficiently. In this paper. block types are classified using candidate vectors and the motion activity of the block is predicted which leads to the search start point close to the optimal motion vector. The proposed method proves to be about 1.5$\sim$7 times faster than existing methods with about 0.02$\sim$0.2(dB) improvement of picture quality in images with large movements.

  • We tested the capability of the pleasure and arousal dimension-based facial expression synthesis system and proposed the most effective interface for it. First, we tried to confirm the adequateness of the dimensional model as a basic structure of the internal states for the system. Fer it, subjects compared the 17 facial expressions on the two axes. The results validated the fundamental hypothesis of the system. Second, we chose 21 representative expressions from the system to test its performance and had subjects rate their similarities. We analyzed these data using multidimensional scaling methods and these results verified the system's reliability. Third, we compared the efficiencies of two interfaces -coordinate values and slide bars- to find the most suitable interface for the system. Subjects synthesise 25 facial expressions with each interface of it. The results showed that the visualization of two dimensional values into Cartesian coordinate is more stable as an input display of facial expression synthesis system based on dimensions.

  • Automatic speech recognition(ASR) is attractive technique in trend these day that seek convenient life. Although many approaches have been proposed for ASR but the performance is still not good in noisy environment. Now-a-days in the state of art in speech recognition, ASR uses not only the audio information but also the visual information. In this paper, We present a novel lip detection method for visual speech recognition in mobile environment. In order to apply visual information to speech recognition, we need to extract exact lip regions. Because eye-detection is more easy than lip-detection, we firstly detect positions of left and right eyes, then locate lip region roughly. After that we apply K-means clustering technique to devide that region into groups, than two lip corners and lip center are detected by choosing biggest one among clustered groups. Finally, we have shown the effectiveness of the proposed method through the experiments based on samsung AVSR database.

  • This study aims to develop techniques for generating Digital Elevation Model(DEM) from SPOT Computer Compatible Tape(CCT) data, so as to present an effective way of generation of DEM for large area. As the first phase of extracting ground heights from SPOT stereo digital data, the bundle adjustment technique was used to determine the satellite exterior orientation parameters. Because SPOT data has the characteristics of multiple perspective projection, exterior orientation Parameters were modelled as a function of scan lines. In the second phase, a normalized cross correlation matching technique was applied to search for the conjugate pixels ill stereo pairs. The preliminary study showed that the matching window size of 13$\times$13 was adequate. After image coordinates of the conjugate pixels were determined by the matching technique, the ground coordinates of the corresponding pixels were calculated by the space intersection method. Then DEM was generated by interpolations. In addtion an algorithm for the elimination of abnormal elevation was developed and applied. The algorithm was very effective to improve the accuracy of the generated DEM.

  • Many cross-over errors due to position errors, meter errors, observation errors, sea conditions and so on occur when marine geophysical data collected by own and other agencies are merged, and these errors can create artificial anomalies which cause an improper interpretation. Many methods have been introduced to reduce cross-over errors. However, most methods are designed to compare each point or segment data to find cross-over points, and require a long processing time. Therefore, FORTRAN program (FastXcorr) is presented to fast determine cross-over points using an overlap-sector, and to adjust cross-over errors using a weighted linear interpolation algorithm.

  • Here, we demonstrated the optimum design of pillar microstructure for efficient microdroplet merging. The microfluidic device mainly consisted of programmable microvalves and pillar microstructures. Based on the system, aqueous droplets were continuously generated at T-junction using actuating of integrated programmable microvalaves under the immiscible continuous fluid (mineral oil containing 0.5 wt% Span 80). The principle of merging process depended on the competitive correlation of hydraulic pressure of continuous phase and Laplace pressure of the droplet. We found that the design of the micropillars controls above two pressures. Finally, it was demonstrated that the microfluidic system could be able to efficient biochemical reaction. We expect that the microfluidic system is useful analytical or reaction tools in fundamental science, biotechnology, and chemical engineering.

  • Manufacturing Execution System(MES) immediately enables users to share the information of systems industrywide, efficiently manages synthetic information with data collection through treating the data in a fast way, and helps their decision-making. MES for real-time information processing requires certain conditions such as data modeling of RFID, which has recently attracted attentions, and monitoring of each product unit from manufacture to sales. However, in the middle of processing the unit with a RFID tag, transponders(readers) can't often read the tag due to reader's malfunctions, intentional damages, loss and the circumstantial effects; for that reason, users are unable to confirm the location of the product unit. In this case, users cannot avoid tracing the path of units with uncertain clues. In this paper we suggest that the unique MES based on RFID and Bayesian Network can immediately track the product unit, and show how to evaluate it.

  • Time-varying tempo of a song is one of the error sources for the identification of a note duration in automatic music recognition. This paper proposes an improved music transcription scheme equipped with the identification of note duration considering the time-varying tempo. In the proposed scheme the measures are found at first and the tempo, the playing time of each measure, is then estimated. The tempo is then used for resizing each IOI(Inter Onset Interval) length and considered to identify the accurate note duration, which increases the degree of correspondence to the music piece. In the experiment the proposed scheme found the accurate measure position for 14 monophonic children songs out of 16 ones recorded by men and women. Also, it achieved about 89.4% and 84.8% of the degree of matching to the original music piece for identification of note duration and pitch, respectively.

  • Investigation of carabid beetles as on ecological indicator species for wetland characterization and monitoring was conducted in three types of wetlands such as emergent wetland, forested wetland, and estuary, During the investigation period, twenty-eight species belonging to twenty-two genera and three families(Carabidae, Harpalidae, Brachinidae) were identified. The diversity of carabid beetles at riverine wetland such as Woopo (H'=1.18) and Hwapo-neup (H'=1.08) were higher than in the forested wetland (H'=1.03) and estuarine (H'=0.91). Species compositions in each wetland were significantly different(${\chi}^2=1716.8$, P<0.01). Riverine wetlands differed significantly from the forested wetland. Indicator species for the wetland chose with indicator species analysis were reacted sensitively on the parameter such as soil composition, moisture of soil, and environmental change. Thus, it was consequently suggested that these indicator species may be applied for wetland characterization and monitoring of the wetland ecosystem.

  • In this paper, a new method of spatial query, which is called Surround Search (SuSe) is suggested. This method makes it possible to search for the closest spatial object of interest to the user from a query point. SuSe is differentiated from the existing spatial object query schemes, because it locates the closest spatial object of interest around the query point. While SuSe searches the surroundings, the spatial object is saved on an R-tree, and MINDIST, the distance between the query location and objects, is measured by considering an angle that the existing spatial object query methods have not previously considered. The angle between targeted-search objects is found from a query point that is hidden behind another object in order to distinguish hidden objects from them. The distinct feature of this proposed scheme is that it can search the faraway or hidden objects, in contrast to the existing method. SuSe is able to search for spatial objects more precisely, and users can be confident that this scheme will have superior performance to its predecessor.
