A Design and Performance Analysis of Web Cache Replacement Policy Based on the Size Heterogeneity of the Web Object (웹 객체 크기 이질성 기반의 웹 캐시 대체 기법의 설계와 성능 평가)

  • Efficient using of the web cache is becoming important factors that decide system management efficiency in the web base system. The cache performance depends heavily on the replacement algorithm which dynamically selects a suitable subset of objects for caching in a finite cache space. In this paper, the web caching algorithm is proposed for the efficient operation of the web base system. The algorithm is designed based on a divided scope that considered size reference characteristic and heterogeneity on web object. With the experiment environment, the algorithm is compared with conservative replacement algorithms, we have confirmed more than $15\%$ of an performance improvement.

  • In this paper, We describe the XML-based Web content management system that supports the efficient dynamic content publishing environment. EasyCM is designed based on Cocoon2 that is the XML publishing framework. We propose the publishing mechanism to support the efficient dynamic content publishing environment to expand into the available dynamic content caching to Cocoon2. Publishing mechanism of EasyCM draws XML object from content repository, associates XML with XSLT, creates and caches content components preprocessing HTML transformation process, and publish web pages constructed into cached content component. For supporting more efficient caching, EasyCM supports also content component update, two update method that is immediately-update and delay-update for updated content component.

Forecasted Popularity Based Lazy Caching Strategy (예측된 선호도 기반 게으른 캐싱 전략)

  • In this paper, we propose a new caching strategy for web servers. The proposed strategy collects only the statistics of the requested file, for example the popularity, when a request arrives. At a point of time, only files with higher forecasted popularity are cached all together. Forecasted popularity based lazy caching (FPLC) strategy uses exponential smoothing method for forecast popularity of web files. And, FPLC strategy shows that the cache hit ratio and the cache transfer ratio are better than those produced by other caching strategy. Furthermore, the experiment that is performed with real log files built from web servers shows our study on forecast method for popularity of web files improves cache efficiency.

  • 인터넷 사용의 급격한 증가로 인해 웹 정보의 양적 팽창과 더불어 네트워크 병목현상과 웹 서버의 과부하 문제가 증가함에 따라 사용자의 접근 지연시간도 증가하게 되었다. 이러한 접근 지연 시간을 줄이는 방안으로 프록시 캐싱(Proxy Caching)이 사용되었고, 효율적인 프록시 서버 캐시 운영을 위한 캐시 교체정책에 관한 연구가 많이 진행되어 지고 있다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 서버의 오버헤드를 줄이면서, 캐시에 저장되어 있는 오브젝트를 요청한 클라이언트에게 짧은 지연시간에 전달하고자 하는 개선된 교체 정책 알고리즘을 제안하고 실험을 통해 성능을 평가한다.

  • In this paper, We offer a new web caching technique for a performance improvement of a multimedia object process. The proposed method is based on a heterogeneity of Web object. And it increases performance of a caching system as increasing the caching efficiency of a multimedia object. In the experiment, We verified performance improvement through performance analysis of a proposed system.

  • 현재의 캐싱 시스템은 멀티미디어와 같은 방대한 자료를 처리하기에는 대역폭과 지연 문제가 발생한다. 그러므로 이 문제를 해결하기 위해서 본 논문은 분산 환경에서 멀티미디어 응용에 적합한 객체 지향적인 캐싱 시스템을 설계 및 구현하였다. 본 객체지향 캐싱 시스템은 세가지 특징을 가진다. 첫째는 CORBA 명명 서비슬르 이용함으로써 URN(Uniform Resource Name)기반의 객체에 대한 투명성을 제공한다. 둘째는 자바 애플릿을 이용함으로써 웹과 CORBA의 통합 환경을 제공한다. 그리고 첫째는 서버들간의 부하분담(load balancing)을 지원한다.

  • 웹 프락시 통신량 특성은 캐싱, 용량 설계 및 모의 실험 연구에 영향을 미치는 매개 변수를 인식하는데 도움을 준다. 본 논문에서는 프락시 서버에 나타나는 통신량을 추적하여 사용자의 액세스 패턴을 분석하고 그에 따른 캐싱 모델을 수립하였다. 적중률과 가중치 적중률을 평가한 결과 캐싱의 유용성을 개선하였다.

  • This paper proposes a new access method which is to considered the high variability in World Wide Web and manage the web cache space. Instead of using a single cache, we divide a cache and store all documents according to their file types. Proposed method was compares with current cache management policies using LFU, LRU and SIZE base algorithm. Using two different workload, we show the improvement hitting ratio and byte hitting ratio through simulating on the file type caching.

Web Caching Strategy based on Documents Popularity (선호도 기반 웹 캐싱 전략)

  • In this paper, we propose a new caching strategy for web servers. The proposed algorithm collects on]y the statistics of the requested file, for example the popularity, when a request arrives. And, at times, only files with higher popularity are cached all together. Because the cache remains unchanged until the cache is made newly, web server can use very efficient data structure for cache to determine whether a file is in the cache or not. This increases greatly tile efficiency of cache manipulation. Furthermore, the experiment that is performed with real log files built by web servers shows that the cache hit ratio and the cache hit ratio are better than those produced by LRU. The proposed algorithm has a drawback such that the cache hit ratio may decrease when the popularity of files that is not in the cache explodes instantaneously. But in our opinion, such explosion happens infrequently, and it is easy to implement the web servers to adapt them to such unusual cases.

  • As the number of World Wide Web (Web) users grows, Web traffic continues to increase at an exponential rate. Currently, Web traffic is one of the major components of Internet traffic. Also, high bandwodth usage due to Web traffic is observed during peak periods while leaving bandwidth usage idle during off-peak periods. One of the solutions to reduce Web traffic and speed up Web access is through the use of Web caching. Unfortunately, Web caching has limitations for reducing network bandwidth usage during peak periods. In this paper, we focus our attention on the use of a prefetching algorithm for reducing bandwidth during peak periods by using off-peak period bandwidth. We propose a statistical, batch, proxy-side prefetching scheme that improves cache hit rate while only requiring a small amount of storage. Web objects that were accessed many times in previous 24 hours but would be expired in the next 24 hours, are selected and prefetched in our scheme. We present simulation results based on Web proxy and show that this prefetching algorithm can reduce peak time bandwidth using off-peak bandwidth.
