A Study of History of Korean Wedding Styling (한국 웨딩스타일링의 변천사 연구)

  • This study investigated the history of Korean wedding styling, which has been the basis for today's wedding styling and analyzed wedding styling trends and characteristics. This study sought to explain how Korean wedding styling has evolved under the circumstances that wedding styling, which contains personal propensity, personality and identity, draws great attention from the world as well as from single women and is perceived as a fashion item The study results found the following: For nearly four decades since the 1960s, there have been specific changes in Korean wedding styles such as silhouette and color. Depending on customer personality, preferred styles clearly varied. In addition, favorite makeup, hairstyle and accessories have also changed over time. This study has verified changes in different wedding styling trends over time. Wedding styling has created a particular mood suitable to a bride's appearance or offered significant characteristics over time.

  • This study classifies images according to changes in wedding hair and equipment and approaches and presents creative designs using pearls and crystals to preserve the subtle and soft gloss of pearls. In addition, in modern times, it is intended to help women as a new part of hair art design art expression by expanding their choices with unique designs and decorative means that give women a special sense of humor by expressing them in various materials and forms in creating complementary and individualistic hairstyles. A total of three works were produced and analyzed to shape images according to changes in wedding hair jewelry, which can create designs by harmonizing the subtle and soft gloss of pearls with the splendor of crystals, so that they could be provided as new motifs for real-life marketability in creative and original hair art. The work was produced by the design intention and method, design development, production intention, production process, and work completion. It was possible to derive a unique up-style decoration that reveals one's personality while having both practicality and decoration. It is expected that the research on colored hair art design will continue as a motif for the development of hair art works and the commercialization of real life.

Hair Up-styling Techniques by Wedding Dress Image (웨딩드레스 이미지에 따른 헤어 업스타일 연구)

  • This study investigated up-styling techniques as related to wedding dress image. To find up-styles that fit well with a wedding dress, a questionnaire survey was conducted targeting hairdressers in the beauty industry, and new styles were created and suggested based on the survey results. For this, hair was slicked back without parting and combed upward. Then, using braiding techniques needed to produce a top point, styles were created to create attractive images. For up-styles that go with an elegant wedding dress, hair was parted in a ratio of 3 : 7. In addition, a roll technique was applied based on natural points by keeping the ears half-covered to create elegance. For up-styles that are perfect for a classic wedding dress, hair was parted in a ratio of 2 : 8, keeping the ears half-covered. Based on the back point, a twisting technique was applied to create classic images. It is anticipated that the study results would provide basic data needed for creating and understanding up-styles that go with various wedding dress images and make a contribution to their development.

A Comparison of Woman's Wedding Coordination between the End of 20th and the Beginning of 21st Century (20세기말과 21세기초에 나타난 여성 웨딩코디네이션 비교)

  • The aim of this study was to compare and contrast the changes in wedding coordination between the end of 20th and the beginning 21st centuries. one wedding magazine was selected and used to supply data. four hundred and thirty one wedding photos were examined from a popular wedding magazine called "My Wedding", issued between 1993 and 2007. the results are described below. First, changes in make-up and hair style: from the end of 20th to the beginning of 21 st centuries, the style of make-up changed from being exaggerated with strong colors which made the typical brides make-up to utilizing the minimal color selection which made natural-looking. the hair style has also changed from up style to natural hair style. Second, changes in wedding gowns: the style of wedding gowns changed from the shapes of X line which was to cover the body figure of bride to simple shapes such as an strapless and fish-tail style of gowns. Third, changes in wedding jewelry and accessories: hair pieces consisted of large flower crowns and hair bands with flowers in the end of 20th century. the various sizes and colors of tiaras and crowns were popular in the beginning of 21 st century. for wedding accessories, large shapes of earrings and necklaces were popular at the end of 20th century, whereas various size and styles were more fashionable later on. in conclusion, brides in the beginning of 21 st century prefer to wear sexy or alluring dresses with natural hair styles and make-up, in contrast to the classic or traditional wedding outfits that were more popular at the end of 20th century.

A Study on Image Perception according to Wedding Headdress, Hairstyle, and Neckline (웨딩헤드드레스, 헤어스타일, 네크라인에 따른 이미지 지각 연구)

  • The objectives of this study were to analyze the design elements of hairstyles, wedding headdresses, and necklines in wedding magazine pictures by using content analysis method and to investigate the differences in image perception according to hairstyle, wedding headdress, and neckline. A quasi-experimental method by questionnaire was used. The experimental design was a $2{\times}5{\times}4$(hairstyles${\times}$wedding headdresses${\times}$necklines) factorial design by 3 independent variables. The subjects consisted of 378 female college students. The results are as follow. First, the most popular among hairstyles, headdresses, and neckline forms were the updo hairstyle, dark brown hair color, the crown headdress, white flowers, and the horizontal bared top. Second, the elements determined to be most elegant and attractive were the medium-up hairstyle and the crown with a veil. However the wedding hat was perceived to be high in individuality and tenderness, while the flower and the wedding hat were perceived to be very pretty. The halter neckline was perceived to be higher in individuality and attractiveness than the other neckline types. Third, the medium-up hairstyle when wearing a crown with veil was perceived to be the most elegant. Placing a flower in the long-wave hairstyle was evaluated as looking most pretty. Fourth, the medium-up hairstyle was higher in preference than the long-wave style. Among wedding headdresses, there was greatest preference for a crown.

A Comparative Study on Bridal Wedding Styles Appeared in Korean and Chinese SNS (한국과 중국 SNS에 나타난 신부웨딩스타일 비교연구)

  • This study compares and analyzes bridal wedding styles in Korean and Chinese SNS. For this, 715 photos (362 in Korea and 353 in China) collected on social media (Instagram and Xiaohongshu) were used for analysis. The bridal wedding style was divided by item into wedding dress, makeup, and hairstyle, and detailed characteristics of images and designs were examined through content analysis and statistical analysis. First, in the case of Korea, many wedding dresses showed ball gowns and mermaid silhouettes, white colors, and no details and trimmings. As for the makeup, transparent and natural skin expression, straight eyebrows, and pink and peach lip colors were highlighted; and as for hairstyles, many long hair with half-covered ears appeared. Second, in China, a ball gown, mermaid silhouette, and white color are often seen in wedding dresses, and point colors and use of various details and trimmings are noted. The makeup showed a lot of bright skin expression, brown and black eyebrows, and red and brown lip colors. As for hairstyle, a lot of long hair with completely exposed ears appeared. Third, the comparison of bridal wedding styles between Korea and China indicated that China used relatively more details and trimmings in wedding dresses. As for makeup, Korea has a natural image, and China has a classic image. As for the hairstyle, there were many styles in which Koreans had half the ears covered, and Chinese had no bangs and completely exposed ears.
