Evaluation of Acceleration Effect of Ancillary Services on Cavitation and Fatigue of a Water Turbine in Pumped-Storage Plants (부수적 서비스 제공에 따른 양수발전소 수차의 캐비테이션 및 피로에 대한 가속효과 평가)

  • Several maintenance issues related to cavitation erosion and fatigue cracks in the water turbine subcomponents of pumped-storage plants, such as a runner and a draft tube, have been reported in the past. Generally, the pumped-storage plants provide ancillary services, such as black-start and system stabilization. The ancillary services are responsible for cyclic low opening operation of the guide vanes. It has been empirically established that this low opening operation further damages the water turbine subcomponents. In this study, the acceleration effect of the low opening operation on the cavitation erosion and fatigue of the water turbine is quantitatively assessed through finite element flow analysis, finite element stress analysis, and fatigue analysis. As a result of the assessment, it is identified that the cavitation potential increases and the turbine efficiency decreases with a decrease in the opening of the guide vane. Also, the low opening operation has an insignificant effect on the fatigue even though it increases the maximum stress values at the runner blade roots.

The Effect of Autonomous Driving Vehicle Positive Notification on Situation Awareness and Take-over Performance (자율주행 차량의 안전한 상태 알림이 제어권 전환 시 상황 인식과 운전 수행에 미치는 영향)

  • Drivers have willing to do secondary tasks in situations deemed safe autonomous driving. I studied that positive notifications for secure areas could improve situation awareness and driving performance after TOR(Take over request) in autonomous driving. Comparing TOR alert only and monitoring alert conditions, participants in the positive notification condition showed higher situation awareness and driving performance. Also, in emotional assessment, the positive notification condition showed higher positive evaluation than other conditions. Due to Covid-19, I designed experiments separate online with driving videos in experiment 1 and offline using a driving simulator in experiment 2. This study has implications that presented a different perspective on autonomous driving notification design.

  • 용수 다소비 산업으로 분류되는 제지공업의 특성 상, 용수사용의 억제 및 용수의 무방류화에 대한 압력이 증가되고 있는 반면, 초지환경은 날로 열악해지고 있는 실정이다. 한 예로써, 용지의 재활용율 및 재사용 비율이 증가함에 따라 원료의 저급화가 심 각한 수준에 이르고 있으며, 이러한 초지환경의 변화는 각질화되고 극도로 미세화된 다량의 미세섬유 발생 및 잡고지로부터 유입되는 점착성 이물질과 무기 충진제의 도입 등을 유발함으로서 제품의 물리적 성질 저하, 탈수부하 증가로 인한 생산성 저하, 약품사용량 증가 등을 초래하여, 결과적으로는 폐수처리장의 부하를 증대시킴과 동시에 청수사용량 및 폐수방류량을 증가시키는 악순환을 되풀이하게 된다. 국내 제지산업이 국제적 경쟁력을 갖추기 위해서는 제품의 증대가 필수적이나, 원료와 설비의존도를 감안할 때, 제품특성과 공정 분을 결정하는 습부공정을 정확히 파악하여 최적 운전조건을 확립하는 것이 가장 경제적이고 용이한 방법일 뿐만 아니라 전체 제지공정의 정정화에도 기여할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 일정규모이상의 종이를 생산하는 제지공장은 거의 대부분 컴퓨터로 처리되는 온라인 공정조절 시스템(On-line process control system)을 구비하고 료의 도입에서부터 설비운전 및 제품의 기본적인 품질관리까지 실시간의 자동화되고 안정적인 운전과 관리시스템을 유지하고 있다. 그러나 전체 제지공정 중, 제품 물성과 운전조건의 대부분을 결정하는 습부공정만큼은 아직도 주기적인 분석이 행해지고 있지 않을 뿐만 아니라, 슬러리의 농도나 보류도 정도를 제이하면 분석항목 조차도 변변히 확립되어 있지 않을 실정이다. 이는 다량의 물 속에 존재하게 되는 용전물질(Dissolved solids, DS), 부유물질(Suspended solids, SS), 섬 유(Fibers), 무기 미 세분(Inorganic f fines), 그리고 투입되는 약품간에 발생하는 계면동전현상 및 이러한 현상과 최종 지제 품의 물성간의 상관관계에 대한 이해 정도나 경험 부족에서 기인하는 것으로 생각된다. 1 1983년 미국제지기술연합회(T APpI)의 제지용 첨가제 분과위원회(Papermaking A Additive Committee)에서는 습부공정의 적절한 조절을 위해 어떤 항목들이 필요하며 그 중요도는 어떠한가를 조사하였으며, 그 결과로 전하밀도, 제타전위, 보류도 및 여수 도, 무기 미세분 함량 등이 중요하다고 보고하였다. 그러나 지료의 전기적 특성을 실시 간으로 측정하는 기자재류가 최근에 이르러서야 도입되고 있는 실정이기 때문에 충분 한 현장적용 사례가 보고되지 못하고 있으며, 결과적으로 얻어진 정보와 최종 지제품의 물성 및 초지기 운전조건과의 상관관계를 확립하는 작업결과는 더욱 찾아보기 어렵다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는, 라이너지 제조공장의 습부공정에 투입되는 약품이 지료 의 전기적 성질, 즉 전하밀도와 제타전위에 미치는 영향을 모니터링함으로서 지료의 전기적 성질들과 습부 공정상태와의 상관관계를 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 다음과 같은 순서로 진행하였다.

Public Attitude Survey on Traffic Fine Policy (교통과태료제도에 대한 국민의식조사 분석)

  • Traffic safety has been dramatically enhanced thanks to recent improvements in traffic environment. Nonetheless, many traffic accidents occur due to unchanging driving practices. Therefore, this study addresses the issues of traffic fine and penalty fine policies, and seek appropriate levels of traffic fines through a public attitude survey. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 905 adult drivers over 20 years of age from 15 provinces and metropolitan cities. Analysis results are as follows. First, traffic environment in South Korea is generally not safe. Respondents perceive violation of traffic laws such as reckless driving, speeding and drunk and driving as an important cause. Second, 61.6% of respondents experienced over one speeding annually, but only 15.2% of respondents were caught in the last three years. Third, opposition to levels of traffic fines has decreased over the past, and responses were more positive when more information was provided. Fourth, to deter moral hazard of paying traffic fines to avoid traffic penalty points, traffic fines should be at least 50,000~70,000 won higher than penalty fines. Fifth, there was less opposition to implementation of accumulated penalty policy compared to income-based differential fine levels. Sixth, traffic fines for different types of traffic violations need to be reorganized. In conclusion, this study suggests the following policy improvements for the current traffic fine and penalty fine policies for violation of traffic laws. First, enough understanding and consensus must be developed for policy improvements. Second, administrative sanctions such as giving penalty points should be considered rather than financial sanctions. Third, there should be policy improvement for accumulative penalty. Current acts of traffic law violation should be reorganized.

The Hazardous Expressway Sections for Drowsy Driving Using Digital Tachograph in Truck (화물차 DTG 데이터를 활용한 고속도로 졸음운전 위험구간 분석)

  • In the past 10 years, the accidents caused by drowsy driving have occupied about 23% of all traffic accidents in Korea expressway network and this rate is the highest one among all accident causes. Unlike other types of accidents caused by speeding and distraction to the road, the accidents by drowsy driving should be managed differently because the drowsiness might not be controlled by human's will. To reduce the number of accidents caused by drowsy driving, researchers previously focused on the spot based analysis. However, what we actually need is a segment (link) and occurring time based analysis, rather than spot based analysis. Hence, this research performs initial effort by adapting link concept in terms of drowsy driving on highway. First of all, we analyze the accidents caused by drowsy in historical accident data along with their road environments. Then, links associate with driving time are analyzed using digital tachograph (DTG) data. To carry this out, negative binomial regression models, which are broadly used in the field, including highway safety manual, are used to define the relationship between the number of traffic accidents on expressway and drivers' behavior derived from DTG. From the results, empirical Bayes (EB) and potential for safety improvement (PSI) analysis are performed for potential risk segments of accident caused by drowsy driving on the future. As the result of traffic accidents caused by drowsy driving, the number of the traffic accidents increases with increase in annual average daily traffic (AADT), the proportion of trucks, the amount of DTG data, the average proportion of speeding over 20km/h, the average proportion of deceleration, and the average proportion of sudden lane-changing.

  • The spent fuel transportation casks have used as one of the most essential component in the nuclear industry. And, the number of the cask has been significantly increased in recent years. While the bulk amount of spent fuel in the world is still kept in the storage pool, the number of countries which have chosen the advantages of dual purpose cask for transportation and storage is rapidly increasing. The technical experience in the area of spent fuel transportation cask operation and maintenance for long period is also available and will be well utilized also in storage casks. The increasing use of casks for dual and multiple purposes raises an issue of long term consideration by international standardization. Accordingly IAEA is providing a regulatory requirements and guidelines as an effort for this standardization.

Driving Behaviors of the Korean People: A Cultural Psychological Perspective (한국사회의 교통문화)

  • The present authors had conducted several researches(parking violation, traffic signal violation, speed violation, drunk-driving) on driving behaviors of the Korean people focused on cultural psychological perspective. This paper was designed to summarize these previous results. Although each research had dealt with different violation behaviors on driving, there were lots of similarities on the basis of violation. The results reveal the following rationale for incurring violation behaviors. First, most people reported that they violated the rule to pursuit short-term benefit. Second, the violators' psychological characteristics are described in terms of self-centered and self-justification. In addition, the respondents have justified their violated behaviors since the outcome is disadvantageous for the drivers. Furthermore, the violators' are found to possess a permissive attitude toward the other violators'. Finally, the implications of these studies were proposed. All of these findings were discussed in relation to the Korean culture.

  • The cavitation in the turbopump inducer progresses from the inception to the critical point, and finally develops to a breakdown which sharply declined in head. In this paper, we evaluated characteristics and predicted empirical equations about the cavitation inception of a turbopump inducer. The empirical equation of the cavitation inception for the elliptical plate was relatively well predicted to the turbopump inducer. However, in case of the marine propeller, it showed a big difference due to Reynolds number under the operating point.

  • 조사후 시험시설(Post Irradiated Examination Facility, PIEF)은 내진범주 1 급 구조물로서 현재 각종 실험 및 연구가 진행중인 원자력 안전관련시설물 이다. 한편 이 건물로부터 30m - 120m 정도 떨어져 있는 다목적연구로 (Korea Multipurpose Research Reactor, KMRR) 및 조사재시험시설 (Irradiation Material Examination Facility, IMEF)의 건조사업을 위하여 기 초암반의 굴착작업을 수행할 경우 발파작업에 따른 그 진동 및 폭풍압영향 이 염려되어, 그 안전성 평가를 위하여 시험발파를 수행해야 할 필요가 제기 되었다. 우선 운전중인 원자력안전 시설물에서의 발파에 따른 진동허용 기준 을 설정하고, 둘째로 거리에 따른 폭발량을 경험식에 따라 잠정 결정한 후, 세째로 시험발파에 의한 진동 측정을 수행하여 그 영향을 평가하고, 끝으로 이에 따라 거리별 제한 폭발량을 결정한후 실제 본발파에 적용하고자 한다. 이로써 운전중인 원자력 안전관련시설물인 PIEF의 안전 운전을 도모하고 KMRR및 IMEF 시설의 건조를 원만하게 이룰 수 있을 것이다.

Driving Satisfaction and Safety Assessment for Roundabout (회전교차로 주행 만족도 및 안전성 평가)

  • This study empirically analyzes the relationships among the road and traffic experts' personal characteristics, the driving behavior and factors being expected to have an effect on the satisfaction about roundabout operation. The factors are drawn and grouped through the principle component analysis to clarify driving environment satisfaction on roundabout operation. Each group is named as personal attribute, driving behavior attribute, and satisfaction. After the variables are refined by confirmatory factor analysis, satisfaction model is developed with personal attribute and driving behavior attributes as exogenous variables and roundabout driving awareness and emotion attributes as endogenous variables. As a result, driving satisfaction of roundabout operation is directly influenced by delay reduction, safety improvement, capacity increase, sight improvement, severity accident reduction, and bicycle convenience and indirectly gender, age, driving time, and driving experience. Law obeyance, driving concession, traffic sign obeyance, and interposition do not statistically shows significant on satisfaction. As a result of Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), the turning radius of geometry and the driving behavior are important elements for roundabout safety.
