A Study on the Analysis of Driver Behavior in Traffic Accidents using Driving Video Recorder (차량용 영상기록장치를 통한 운전자 행태에 따른 교통사고분석에 관한 연구)

  • 우리나라의 자동차 역사는 주요 선진국에 비해 60년 정도 짧지만 자동차와 일어나는 교통사고의 발생률이나 심각도를 고려한다면 교통사고를 줄이기 위한 여러 가지 원인을 분석해 보는 것이 중요하다. 본 연구는 방송프로그램에 방송한 차량용 영상기록장치(VDR) 제보영상을 통해 다양한 교통사고의 원인을 수집하여 운전자의 행태를 분석하여 교통사고를 발생을 감소 시킬 수 있는 방안을 제시하는 연구목적이다. 방송된 차량용 영상 전체 1,262건에 대해 운전자 행태 분석을 실시하여 DB를 구축하고 이를 교통사고 분석 시스템 TAAS 통계를 비교 분석 결과 전체 1,262건 중 노면상태가 건조 할 때가 1,153건, 기상상태가 맑을 때 1,176건, 주야별 운전시 주간이 1,0,13건으로 높게 분석되었다. 또한 사고유형으로는 차대차 860건이 68.1%로 높게 분석 되었다. 따라서 운전에 장애가 되는 요소가 없는 경우 운전자 개인이 과속과 전방주시 태만이 발생할 가능성이 높으므로 운전자들에 대한 교육을 통해 의식개혁이 필요하다.

Effect of uncertain information on drivers' decision making (Application of Prospect Theory) (불확실한 정보에 대한 운전자의 의사결정행태 연구)

  • This paper explores the way and the extent to which drivers' route choice was influenced by uncertain information. In particular, this paper investigates the effect of qualitative information on route choice when drivers face a choice with different degrees of uncertain information. The SP survey was conducted and route choice legit models were estimated. We also applied Prospect Theory to the analysis of drivers' decision making under uncertain information. The main findings are firstly, drivers tend to prefer a route with information than(to) one without information. This indicated that providing charge information encouraged drivers to choose the routes for which information is provided in preference to those for which it is not provided. Secondly, drivers also prefer a route with a certain and precise information over one with uncertain and imprecise information. Thirdly, when the information is given as a range, the size of the range of the information influenced route choice slightly and as the range of the charge increases, the route becomes slightly less unattractive. Fourthly, when the information is given as a range, drivers' route choices are influenced more by the median value of the ranges than by the size of the overall ranges of the information. Application of Prospect Theory to the results explains the way drivers may be interpreting the choice situation and how they make a route choice in response to uncertain information. The results of this paper implicate that drivers' decision making under uncertainty seem to be very complicated and flexible, depending on the way drivers interpret the choice situation. Therefore, it is recommended to apply wider related theories to the analysis of the drivers' behaviour.

An Investigation for Driving Behavior on the Exit-ramp Terminal in Urban Underground Roads Using a Driving Simulator (주행 시뮬레이터를 활용한 도심 지하도로 유출연결로 접속부 주행행태 분석)

  • Even though driving behaviors in underground roads can be significantly different from ground roads, existing underground roads follow the design guidelines of ground roads. In this context, this study investigates the driving behaviors of the exit-ramp terminal of urban underground roads using a driving simulator. Virtual driving experiments were performed by analyzing scenarios between the underground and ground road environments. The experiments' driving behavior data for each geometry section are compared and validated through a statistical significance test. This test showed that the speed in the underground road environment is relatively low, and the LPM tends to move away from the adjacent tunnel wall. Based on these findings, this study suggests implications and feasible solutions for improving driver's safety in the exit-ramp terminal of the underground roads.

  • 첨단 교통 체계(Intelligent Transport Systems)의 중요한 요소인 첨단 교통 관리 체계(Advanced Traffic Management Systems)의 성공 여부는 교통정보를 어떻게 제공하고 통제하는데 의존하다. 즉, 정보 제공 방식과 이데 대한 운전자의 반응을 정확하게 파악하고 예측하여야 ITS를 성공적으로 구축할 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 동적 차량 길잡이 장치의 효용성을 평가하기 위한 확률적 통행배정모형을 개발하는 것이다. 개발된 통행배정모형은 운전자의 동적행태조정(Dynamic Behavioural Adjustment)을 명백하게 확솔 과정(Stochastic Process)으로 표현하여 기존의 모형에 비해 통해자들의 행태를 더욱 실제적으로 반영한다. 특히, 각 통행자들에게 K개의 최소경로시간을 제공해줌으로 인하여 통행자의 노선선택에 대한 선택폭을 증가시켜준다. 통행경로의 선택폭의 증가는 쟁점으로 대두되는 문제(교통항제소에서는 차량 길잡이 보유 운전자에게 체계최적(System Optimum)와 이용자최적(User Equilibrium)중 어떠한 원칙하에 교통정보를 제공하여야 하는가에 대한 해결 방안이다. 왜냐하면 만약 교통급제소에서 운전자에게 통행정보를 체계 최상을 하기 위해 정보를 제공하고자 하면, 길잡이 장착 운전자는 더 이상 제공된 정보를 따르지 않고 자기 스스로의 경에 의해 이용자 최상을 달성하고자 할 것이다. 이 논문의 목적은 이러한 복잡한 통행자의 경로선택행위를 반영하는 확률적 평형 통행 배정 모형을 여러가지 통계기법을 도입하여 개발하는 것이다.

The Effect Analysis of Safe Driving Education for High-Risk Driver Groups in Sudden Pedestrian Crossing Situation Using a Driving Simulator (주행시뮬레이터를 활용한 보행자 돌발 횡단 상황에서의 고위험 운전자 유형별 안전운전 교육 효과분석)

  • Pedestrian deaths in Korea due to traffic accidents are 40 percent of the fatalities in traffic accidents, which is about twice the average of OECD member countries. To reduce severe pedestrian accidents, it is necessary to apply the accident reduction measures to high-risk drivers (novice, elderly, and commercial vehicle drivers) who are more likely to cause traffic accidents than general drivers. Therefore, this study analyzed the effect of safe driving education on high-risk drivers' behavior. Here, the safe driving education is chosen as the measure to reduce traffic accidents. As part of the study, sudden pedestrian crossing situations were implemented in the driving simulator, and the vehicle trajectory data were collected to compare the driving behavior before and after the education. Most surrogate safety measures showed no improvement in the driving behavior of novice and elderly drivers, and the effect of safe driving education was found to be significant only in the group of commercial vehicle drivers. The results implied that additional measures such as pedestrian safety infrastructure and driver assistance systems, apart from the safe driving education, may be needed for novice and elderly drivers to reduce pedestrian accidents caused by them. With the findings mentioned above, this study is expected to provide a foundation to establish a plan to reduce pedestrian accidents caused by high-risk drivers.

Lane Change Behavior of Manual Vehicles in Automated Vehicle Platooning Environments (군집주행 환경에서 비자율차의 차로변경행태 분석)

  • Analysis of the interaction between the automated vehicles and manual vehicles is very important in analyzing the performance of automated cooperative driving environments. In particular, the automated vehicle platooning can affect the driving behavior of adjacent manual vehicles. The purpose of this study is to analyze the lane change behavior of the manual vehicles in automated vehicle platonning environment and to conduct the experiment and questionnaire surveys in three stages. In the first stage, a video questionnaire survey was conducted, and responsive behaviors of manual vehicles were investigated. In second stage, the driving simulator experiments were conducted to investigate the lane change behaviors of in automated vehicle platonning environments. To analyze the lane change behavior of the manual vehicles, lane change durations and acceleration noise, which are indicators of traffic flow stability, were used. The driving behavior of manual vehicles were compared across different market penetration rates (MPR) of automated vehicles and human factors. Lastly, NASA-TLX (NASA Task Load Index) was used to evaluate the workload of the manual vehicle drivers. As a result of the analysis, it was identified that manual vehicle drivers had psychological burdens while driving in automated vehicle platonning environments. Lane change durations were longer when the MPR of the automated vehicles increased, and acceleration noise were increased in the case of 30-40 years old or female drivers. The results from this study can be used as a fundamental for more realistic traffic simulations reflecting the interaction between the automated vehicles and manual vehicles. It is also expected to effectively support the establishment of valuable transportation management strategy in automated vehicle environments.

A Study on Providing Real-Time Route Guidance Information by Variable Massage Signs with Driver Behavior (운전자 행태를 고려한 VMS의 실시간 경로안내 정보제공에 관한 연구)

  • The ATIS(Advance Traveler Information System), as one part of ITS, is a system aiming to disperse traffic volume on transportation networks by providing traffic information to transportation users on pre-trip and en-route trips. One of tools in ATIS is usage of VMS(Variable Message Signs). It provides to the drivers with direct information about state of processing direction. which is considered as the most effective method in ATIS. The purposes of providing VMS information are classified two categories. One is to provide simple information to drivers for their convenience. The other is to manage traffic demand to improve transportation network performance. However, for more effective and reliable VMS information, several strategies should be taken into account. The main VMS management strategy is "Traffic Diversion Strategy for minimum delay" when traffic congestion or incident are occurred. For effective operation. firstly. reasonable diversion traffic volume is determined by network traffic condition Secondly, it is necessary to make providing information strategy which reflects driver response behavior for controling diversion traffic volume. This paper focuses on the providing real-time route guidance information by VMS when congestion is occurred by the incidents. This sturdy estimates time-dependent system optimal diversion rate that inflects travel time and queue lengths using traffic flow simulation model on base Cellular Automata. In addition, route choice behavior models are developed using binary logit model for traffic information variable by traffic system controller. Finally, this study provides time-dependent VMS massage contents and degree of providing information in order to optimize the traffic flow.

An Analysis of Pedestrian Behavior at Crosswalks of Signalized Intersections (신호교차로 횡단보도 위치에 따른 보행자의 행태분석)

  • 일반적으로 교차로에서의 보행자 사고는 대부분이 횡단보도에서나 횡단보도 주변에서 발생하는 것이 많다. 이것은 운전자의 안전의식부족뿐만 아니라 보행자들이 교통법규를 지키지 않기 때문이다. 교통사고는 운전자나 보행자를 막론하고 안전의식 수준 및 안전시설의 질적 수준과 밀접한 관련이 있다. 특히 횡단보도 위치와 관련한 정지선에 대한 기준이 없어서 횡단보도 전후에 정지선이 2개가 설치된 곳이 많아 차량간의 사고를 유발하고, 보행자는 보행동선을 단축하기 위해 횡단보도 주변횡단이라는 위험한 행태를 유발하지만 이에 대한 연구나 대안제시가 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본 연구는 요인분석법이란 다변량 통계기법을 통해서 사고기록과 형태자료를 분석하였다. 사고기록은 정지선이 2개에서 1개로 변경된 25개 교차로에 대한 보행자와 차량의 유형별, 위치별, 피해정도별 사고기록을 조사 분석하고 행태분석은 현재 정지선이 2개인 곳과 기하구조가 유사한 정지선 1개인 곳을 하나의 쌍으로 해서 모두 8쌍(16개의 교차로 횡단보도)를 조사 분석하였으며, 마지막으로 설문조사를 통해서 보행자의 교통법규 준수와 인식정도에 대한 조사를 통해 보행자들의 인식과 행태조사를 통한 교통법규 준수 정도를 알아보았다. 사고자료의 분석을 통해서 첫째, 정지선이 2개인 교차로는 교차로내 차량사고, 접근부의 후면 추돌사고, 횡단보도에서 보행자사고가, 둘째, 정지선이 1개인 교차로는 유출부 차량사고가 많은 것으로 나타났으며, 행태자료의 분석을 통해서는 첫째, 정지선이 2개인 곳은 횡단보도를 이탈 또는 진입하면서 횡단하는 보행자, 점멸신호에 횡단 시작하는 보행자의 행태와 보행자 신호에 횡단보도를 통과하는 차량, 둘째, 정지선이 1개일 때는 횡단보도를 침범해서 정지하는 차량, 도로에 내려서서 기다리는 보행자가 많은 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 설문조사와 행태조사를 종합하면, 보행자들의 인식으로는 약 71%의 응답자와 점멸신호의 의미를 알고, 전체 응답자의 약 58%가 점멸신호에 건너지 않고 기다린다는 응답(교통법규준수)을 했으며, 실제 행태에서는 약 12.4%가 위반하는 것(87.6% 법규준수)으로 나타났다. 보행자들이 응답한 것보다 실제 행태에서는 더 많은 보행자가 교통법규를 준수하는 것으로 나타났으며, 횡단보도를 이용하는데 있어서 횡단보도를 침범하는 차량과 신호시간이 적다는 의견이 많았다.

Development of the Reliability Traffic Assignment Model based on the Travel Time Variation (통행시간변화를 고려하는 신뢰도통행배정모형 개발)

  • This paper defines the reliable based route choice Principle and formulates the reliability based equilibrium traffic assignment using the Principle. The reliability is defined as the difference of travel demand and capacity using the interference theory of the system engineering. An efficient solution a1gorithm based on Frank-Wo1fe algolithm is Presented to calculate and compare the reliability based traffic assignment with conventional travel time based assignment using small and large scaled road networks. The results show that reliability based traffic assignment converges to equilibrium solution in a reasonable computing time. The equilibrium link flows between reliability and travel time based traffic assignment differ each other in the sense that reliability based assignment is assigned based on the maximum difference of travel demand and link capacity whilst travel time based is assigned on the shortest travel time.

A Study on Driver Behavior and Dilemma Zone during Yellow Interval at Signalized Intersections (신호교차로 황색현시에서의 운전자 형태 및 딜레마 구간 연구방안)

  • Objective of this research is to analyze drivers' behaviors at signalized intersection during yellow interval. For this, deceleration rate of stopping, PRT(Perception-Response Time), and the relationship between dilemma zone and deceleration rate of stopping were surveyed at two signalized intersections located at urban area(Songtan and Suwon) and local area(Yongin) As a result, the deceleration rate of stopping at signalized intersections and a range of dilemma zone were estimated. It was found that the deceleration rate of stopping and PRT were 1.6m/sec$^2$ and 1.27sec, respectively. These values are bigger than ITE's values which have been used in our country. Accordingly, it is considered that these values should be used as a new design criteria for the traffic signal control.
