This paper considers the effects of propellant mixture ratio and loading errors on the performance of a liquid rocket. Propellant residuals generated by error sources are analyzed for a launch vehicle model whose first stage consists of a cluster rocket of four 75-tonf class engines using a statistical Monte-Carlo approach and then the optimal fuel biases minimizing residuals are computed. The results are validated through comparison with analytic method using approximate formula, which have been applied for other space launch vehicles.

In this work, the high-altitude environment simulation study was carried out at an altitude of 65 km exceeding Mach number of 6 after the launch of Korean Space Launch Vehicle using a shock tunnel. To minimize the flow disturbance due to the strut support of test model as much as possible, a few different types of strut configurations were considered. Using the configuration with minimum disturbance, the high-altitude environment simulation experiment including a propulsion system with a single-plume, was conducted. From the thruster test through flow visualization, not only a shockwave pattern, but a general flow-field pattern from the mutual interaction between the exhaust plume and the free-stream undisturbed flow, was experimentally observed. The comparison with the computation fluid dynamic(CFD) results, showed a good agreement in the forebody whereas in the afterbody and the nozzle the disagreement was about ${\pm}7%$ due to unwanted shockwave formation emanated from the nozzle-exit.

Of srategic importance nowdays is the development of high performance spacecraft bus. In this study, optimization for spacecraft structure is performed under the framework of coupled load analysis which is a branch of component mode synthesis with constrained mode and modal transient analysis. unlike the traditional method which uses the quasi-static table supplied by launch vehicle contractor, the present method adots the load results of previous coupled load analysis. It if shown that the proposed method can serve as a effective tool for the optimization spacecraft structure in the early stage of design and weight reduction by numerical example.
In this paper, prediction of separation trajectory for Two-stage-To-Orbit space launch vehicle has been numerically simulated by using an aerodynamic database based on steady state analysis. Aerodynamic database were obtained for matrix of longitudinal and vertical positions. The steady flow simulations around the launch vehicle have been made by using a 3-D RANS flow solver based on unstructured meshes. For this purpose, a vertex-centered finite-volume method was adopted to discretize inviscid and viscous fluxes. Roe's finite difference splitting was utilized to discretize the inviscid fluxes, and the viscous fluxes were computed based on central differencing. To validate this flow solver, calculations were made for the wind-tunnel experiment model of the LGBB TSTO vehicle configuration on steady state conditions. Aerodynamic database was constructed by using flow simulations based on test matrix from the wind-tunnel experiment. ANN(Artificial Neural Network) was applied to construct interpolation function among aerodynamic variables. Separation trajectory for TSTO launch vehicle was predicted from 6-DOF equation of motion based on the interpolated function. The result of present separation trajectory calculation was compared with the trajectory using experimental database. The predicted results for the separation trajectory shows fair agreement with reference[4] solution.

Large number of SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellites, one type of earth observation satellite, have been developed as they have the advantage of not being affected by surrounding environment during the earth image acquisition. In order to gain high image quality, SAR antenna should have large diameter. However, internal space of satellite launch vehicle is limited and this leads SAR antenna to be designed deployable so that it can be folded in launch vehicle and unfolded in space. In this research, values of various design factors of deployable satellite antenna were chosen considering satellite's target mission. Configuration of deployable satellite antenna was designed by applying the chosen values of design factors, and variation in deployable satellite antenna during satellite maneuver was observed through simulation.

The GNSS receiver for KSLV(Korea Space Launch Vehicle)-II provides real-time navigation data as well as precise time and time interval. The precise time signals provided by the GNSS receiver that can be used for the time synchronization between onboard systems, and between the onboard systems and ground stations have the forms of the 1PPS(One Pulse Per Second) and IRIG-B(Inter-Range Instrumentation Group Time Code B) which are synchronized with UTC(Coordinated Universal Time). A signal for timing faults also informs whether the time synchronization signals are available or not. This paper describes the time synchronization signals of the GNSS receiver for KSLV-II and their performance assessment.
Mission opportunities and trajectory characteristics for the future Korean Mars mission have designed and analyzed using KSIV-III(Korea Space Launch Vehicle-III). Korea's first space center, 'NARO space center' is selected as a launch site. For launch opportunities, year 2033 is investigated under considering the date of space center's completion with KSLV series development status. Optimal magnitude of various maneuvers, Trans Mars Injection (TMI) maneuver, Trajectory Correction Maneuver (TCM), Mars Orbit Insertion (MOI) maneuver and Orbit Trim Maneuver(OTM), which are required during the every Mars mission phases are computed with the formulation of nonlinear optimization problems using NPSOL software. Finally, mass budgets for upper stage (launcher for KSIV-III and spacecraft are derived using various optimized maneuver magnitudes. For results, daily launch window from NARO space center for successful Korean Mars mission is avaliable for next 27 minutes starting from Apr. 16. 2033. 12:17:26 (UTC). Maximum spacecraft gross mass which can delivered to Mars is about 206kg, with propellant mass of 109kg and structure mass of 97kg, when on board spacecraft thruster's Isp is assumed to have 290 sec. For upper stage, having structure ratio of 0.15 and Isp value of 280 sec, gross mass is about 1293kg with propellant mass of 1099kg and structure mass of 194kg. However, including 10% margins to computed optimal maneuver values, spacecraft gross mass is reduced to about 148kg with upper stage's mass of 1352kg. This work will give various insights, requiring performances to developing of KSIV-III and spacecraft design for future Korean Mars missions.

The position indicator for cryogenic valves used in space launch vehicle should have high reliability and accuracy. Because the valves operate in cryogenic environment, the position indicator has to measure the valve status independently of the environmental factor, such as moisture and external contamination. We have developed the position indicator using a permanent magnet and reed switches to satisfy these requirements. We analyzed the characteristics of a permanent magnet and reed switches, then selected the appropriate components for cryogenic temperature. The shape and position of components were also considered to measure the open/close information of valve accurately Finally, the position indicator was applied to the valve prototype model, and verified the feasibility of design parameters.

A vent relief valve for oxidizer tank has been designed for liquid propellant feeding system of the space launch vehicle. The vent relief valve ensures oxidizer tank ventilation during filling and its protection from overpressure after filling. Tank ventilation during filling is ensured by vent valve and tank protection is ensured by combined operation of relief valve and vent valve. Numerical analysis predicted that pneumatic behavior and dynamic characteristics met the valve requirements. After manufacturing the prototype model, we have been conducting the tests to evaluate the performance of the vent relief valve.

The ground oxidizer supply system in the launch site of NARO space center had operated 9 times from the start of tests with ILV on May, 2009 to the 2nd flight test of the NARO vehicle. This system operated successfully for twice launches of the NARO vehicle. To judge the successful operation of the ground facility, it should have reproducibility and reliability. In this report, we have analyzed the liquid oxygen consumption of the system to judge of its reproducibility and it can be a reference for using this system for the next generation of KSLV system.
