인천광역시 북서부에 위치한 강화군은 한국에서 다섯 번째로 큰 섬인 강화도가 있다. 사면이 바다로 둘러싸인 섬으로 그곳에 위치한 우성한우농장을 방문하여 강화도의 바닷바람으로 키우고 있는 박종덕 대표의 한우들을 보고 왔다.

In this experiment, gene action were analyzed for seven silkworm varieties in order to obtain basic information on their genetic improvement by diallel crosses. The results obtained were summarized as follows : In F1 generation, over-dominance was shown by Vr-Wr graphic analysis in four characters such as cocoon length in female, bave weight, cocoon weight and boiling off ratio in both male and female, and partial dominance in four characters such as fifth instar period, cocoon layer weight, cocoon layer ratio and bave length. In F2 generation, the partial dominance in all characters were obtained. Components of genetic variance analyzed for five characters such as fifth instar period, cocoon width, cocoon layer weight, cocoon layer ratio and fibroin contents in F1 generation, and for four characters such as cocoon width, cocoon layer weight, cocoon layer ratio and frbroin contents in F2 generation showed that addition effects were higher than dominant effects.

This study was conducted to know how cold tolerance of rice varieties is inherited. Several crosses were made between cold tolerant varieties and susceptible varieties, and their progenies were morphologically and physiologically evaluated each characters at cold water and natural conditions. The segregation modes of leaf discoloration by cold treatment in F$_2$ generations are agreed to simple inheritance ratio of R3 : Sl in four crosses among total seven cross combinations. In F$_1$ and F$_2$ generations, tall one was dominance in culm and panicle length and less reduction in culm and panicle length by cold treatment was overdominance or partial dominance, while more number of panicles per plant was dominance and more increasing of panicle numbers by cold water irrigation was overdominance. Heritability and heterosis in most characters showed high values, and heterosis in remote crosses was especially larger under the cold water treatment condition compare with that under natural condition.

This experiment was conducted to characterize the inheritance of petal color, flower-eye color, flower shape, leaf variegation pattern, and leaf-end shape in Cyclamen persicum. The segregation of $F_2$ and backcross populations from crosses between inbred lines was tested for Mendelian inheritance mode. From four different combinations of crosses, it was found that the petal color was controlled by a single incomplete dominant gene. The other characters, flower-eye color, flower shape, leaf variegation pattern and leaf-end shape were confirmed to be controlled by single complete dominant genes.

Degree of heterosis and gene distributions of several agronomic characters of rice were studied with F$_1$ and F$_2$ generations of 9-parent partial diallel cross in 1983-1984. Degree of heterosis was greater in F$_1$ hybrids than F$_2$ hybrids for culm length, panicle length and number of panicle and the heterobeltiosis could be observed in culm length and number of panicle from several crosses. Incomplete dominance was exhibited by culm length, panicle length and number of panicle in F$_1$ and F$_2$ generations.

In order to elucidate the relationship between the rainfastness of fungicides and their water solubilities, the fungicide residues on the leaf surface of hot pepper was assessed and compared after the drop-wise applications of fungicide solutions on leaf surface followed by artificial raining. As the raining was progressed after application of aqueous acetone solution of fungicides, the residue levels of fungicides were drop rapid at the early stage of raining, but the decreasing rates of residue level were slowed down thereafter. The initial rainfastness was reversely proportional to the water solubilities of the fungicides. Whole amount of dimethomorph residue, which water solubility is 18 mg/L, was washed off by 2.5 mm of raining. Although WP formulations of fungicides showed remarkable decreases of rainfastness compared to the aqueous acetone formulations, the fungicides having low water solubility showed better rainfastness. Chlorothalonil and mepanipyrim suspension concentrates was better in rainfastness than their WP formulation, and the rainfastness of mepanipyrim suspension was reversely proportional to the median diameter of suspension particles in the range of 1 to 4 ${\mu}m$. In brief, the rainfastness of 5 fungicides tested on the pepper leaf was, in the early stage of raining, closely related to water solubility. But, as the raining is progressed, the effect of the unknown factor, which is related with the particle size of fungicides, becomes serious.

The experiment was conducted to get basic information for cotton breeding program through four-variety diallel cross population. Additive, dominant, maternal, and reciprocal effect were observed significantly for days to maturity. Based on the Vr-Wr graphical analysis, the characters, number of bolls per plant, boll weight, seed and lint weight per boll, lint weight per boll, width of seed, 100-seed weight, days to flowering, and days to maturity were found to inherit incomplete dominance, and the characters of number of bolls per plant, width of seed, number of seeds per boll, and length of seed were assumed to inherit over dominance. The component of genetic variance analysis for boll weight, seed and lint weight per boll, lint weight per boll, number of seeds per boll, length of seed, and days to flowering showed that additive effects were higher than dominant effects. The narrow-sense heritability(h$_2$N) for boll weight, seed and lint weight per boll, lint weight per boll, days to flowering, and days to maturity showed high values as more than 43.19%. The estimate of broad-sense heritability(h$_2$B) value was higher than that of h$_2$N because of the low importance of dominance effects.

Although feather-sexing using sex-linked genes related to feather development is a widely used chick sexing method in the poultry industry, the feather-sexing method has yet to be used for Korean native chickens (KNCs). The purpose of this study was to construct a KNC feather-sexing line using early-feathering (EF) and late-feathering (LF) genes for industrial application. Using 557 reddish-brown KNCs as the basal flock, frequencies of the EF (k) and LF (K) genes were estimated to be 0.814 and 0.186, respectively. This indicating that it would be feasible to construct a feather-sexing line using this chicken group, and we accordingly constructed EF paternal and LF maternal lines. On the basis of test-cross for the selection of LF homozygous (KK) males in the maternal line, we confirmed that three of 40 chickens were homozygous males. The survival rate, body weight, days at first egg-laying, hen-day egg production, and egg weight were analyzed to compare the production performance of EF and LF chickens. The results revealed that EF chickens were characterized by a superior survival rate, whereas LF chickens were superior in terms of egg production rate. However, no differences between LF and EF chickens were detected with respect to other production performance parameters. In addition, assessment of the fitness of sexed chicks produced in the established KNC feather-sexing lines revealed that the accuracy of sexing was 98.6%. Collectively, these findings indicate the feasibility of constructing effective KNC feather-sexing lines with potential industrial application.
