The effect of extracting conditions on the content of inorganic compounds of red ginseng extract was studied with respect to the change in ethanolic concentration ranges of $0{\sim}90%$ and temperature of $70{\sim}100^{\circ}C$ during $1{\sim}5$ times of extraction. Each extraction time was taken 8 hours at given temperature. Little effect of temperature on inorganic compounds was observed, while higher ethanol concentrations, particularly higher than 70%, were resulted a significant decreased in their contents. The yield of inorganic compounds in water was shown 80% over after 3rd extraction, while content of crude ash was observed similar tendency and their contents were significant increased in water than in 70% ethanolic concentration. In the process of extraction with water, 1.55% of the potassium content was the highest value, and the smallest was 11ppm of the copper. But in the extraction ratio to raw mateirls, the highest ratio was 91.4% of the calcium, and smallest was 30.4.% of the magnesium.
In this study, the carbon electrodes using activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were prepared for the capacitive deionization process. The Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) was used as the binder and the mixed ACFs with proper solvent was cast on the commercial graphite sheets to prepare the carbon electrodes. At this moment, the different particle sizes of ACFs were applied and the mixing ratio of solvent, PVDF and ACFs, 80 : 2 : 18 and 80 : 5 : 15, were used for the electrode preparation. Then their salt removal efficiencies were characterized under the various operating conditions, adsorption potential and time, desorption potential and time, concentration of feed NaCl solution and flow rate as well. Typically, the salt removal efficiency of 53.6% were obtained at the particle size below $32{\mu}m$, mixing ratio 80 : 2 : 18, adsorption 1.2 V and 3 min, desorption -0.1V and 1 min, and 15 mL/min flow rate of NaCl 100 mg/L.
Enzymatic acylations catalyzed by hydrolytic enzymes, along with enzymatic hydrolysis, are established reactions in the synthesis of fine chemicals such as chiral intermediates and polymerizations in the industry. Those reactions have been carried out mostly in organic media due to the thermodynamic limitations. Recently, there have been reports on enzymatic acylations in aqueous media. They have dealt with the elucidation of reaction mechanisms of hydrolases and acyl transferases based on their X-ray structures, homology comparison of the two kinds of enzymes, substrate engineering of acyl donors and computational design of acyl transferases for enzymatic acylations in aqueous media. Enzymatic acylations play an important role in the combinatorial synthesis of natural products such as polyketides and nonribosomal peptides. In this review, the historic developments of enzymatic acylations and industrial examples are described briefly. In addition, recent developments of enzymatic acylations in the modification of natural products and their prospects will be discussed.
Taxol which is recognized as a powerful anticancer reagent was extracted from yew extract and separated by NP-HPLC (Normal-PhaseHigh Performance Liquid Chromatography). The experiments were performed in the isocratic mode with $5{\mu}l$ to $100{\mu}l$ injection volume and 1ml/min mobile phase flow rate. The major mobile phase was hexane and small amounts of ethanol, methanol, 1-propanol and isopropanol were added to change the retention behavior. Prior to a real sample, the artificial mixture of taxol, cephalomannine and 10-deacetyltaxol was tested. They are hard to be separated because of similar chemical structures. The experimental results showed that the proper composition of mobile phase for separating the three components was found 96% hexane and 4% ethanol(vol.%) or 96% hexane, 2% 1-propanol and 2% methanol(vol.%). Compared to the run time of 80 minutes for the binary system, the mixture was separated within 50 minutes with the less amount of mobile phase for the ternary system. Finally, $1{\mu}g$ of taxol was separated from yew tree extracts under the optimum operating conditions.
Samples (10 mg/mL) of wild Grifola frondosa aqueous extract and solvent fractions were examined for fibrinolytic, thrombin inhibitory, acetylcholinesterase inhibitory, and antioxidative activities to determine the biological activities. The fibrinolytic activity of the aqueous extract and solvent fractions was 0.93 and 0.73 plasmin units/mL, respectively. The thrombin inhibitory activity of the butanol extract was 79.60%. The chloroform fraction had high acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity (85.88%). The aqueous extract had low antioxidative activity (39.81%). The aqueous fraction hydrolyzed Bβ subunits of human fibrinogen but did not show any reactivity for the γ form of the human fibrinogen. The findings indicate the potential of wild Grifola frondosa for the development of drugs and bio-functional foods to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
This paper compared selectivities and mass transfer rates of valuable aromatics (naphthalene group: carbon number 10-12) in the light cycle oil obtained from solvent extraction (SE) with those obtained from liquid membrane permeation (LMP). An aqueous solution of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and an aqueous solution of saporrin and DMSO were used as extraction solvent of SE and the membrane phase of LMP, respectivdy. Selectivities of naphthalene group in reference to n-nonane obtained from SE runs were rapidly increased with decreasing the operating temperature, whereas, those obtained from LMP runs were remained constant throughout the operating temperature. At room temperature, selectivities of naphthalene group obtained from SE were greater than those from SE. Furthermore, mass transfer rates of naphthalene group by SE and LMP were measured in a baffled batch stirred vessel. It was found that the extraction rates of SE were faster by about 280 times than the permeation rates of LMP.
The rate constants of hydrolysis of phenyl-N-benzoylchlorothioformimidates were determined by UV spectrophotometry in 30% (v/v) aqueous dioxane at $25^{\circ}C$. On the basis of rate equation, general base catalysis, solvent effect, substituent effect, thermodynamic parameters, frontier orbital interaction and hydrolysis product analysis, it may be concluded that the hydrolysis of phenyl-N-benzoylchlorothioformimidates proceeds through $S_N1$ mechanism via azocarbocation intermidiate below pH 10.0, while above pH 10.00 the hydrolysis proceeds through nucleophilic addition-elimination ($Ad_{N-E}$) mechanism. In the range of pH from 10.0 to 11.0 these two reaction occur competitively.
A modified method of urea adduct formation, in which water and organic solvent were used as the wetting agent and the reaction medium. respectively, is suggested to obviate methanolysis and to ease recovery in the separation of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) from fish oil. With the new method the fraction in which the total content of EPA. DHA and their precursors is more than 80% could be obtained. Although the total content of precursors in the concentrate was hardly affected by the kind of the wetting agent or the organic solvent, the content of EPA and DHA varied significantly depending on the organic solvent. This finding made it possible to selectively enrich the desired components. After DHA-enriched fraction (I)HA is 50%) was obtained by using pentane, EPA-enriched fraction ( EPA is 53%)) could be obtained from the residue of DHA-enriched fraction by using heptane.

A Kinetics pathway of oxidation of Cefpodoxime Proxetil by permanganate in alkaline medium at a constant ionic strength has been studied spectrophotometrically. The reaction showed first order kinetics in permanganate ion concentration and an order less than unity in cefpodoxime acid and alkali concentrations. Increasing ionic strength of the medium increase the rate. The oxidation reaction proceeds via an alkali-permanganate species which forms a complex with cefpodoxime acid. The latter decomposes slowly, followed by a fast reaction between a free radical of cefpodoxime acid and another molecule of permanganate to give the products. Investigations of the reaction at different temperatures allowed the determination of activation parameters with respect to the slow step of proposed mechanism and fallows first order kinetics. The proposed mechanism and the derived rate laws are consistent with the observed kinetics.

Methanolysis rates of benzylbenzenesulfonates, substituted both on the substrate (Y) and on the leaving group (Z), were determined in MeOH-MeCN mixtures. The results showed that the reaction proceeds via the dissociative $S_N2$ mechanism, in which bond breaking proceeds in greater degree compared to bond formation at the transition state(TS). Multiple Hammett correlation analysis showed that the cross term, ${\rho}_{YZ}$, is very small and hence the cross interaction of two substituents, Y and Z, at the TS is not important, supporting the dissociative $S_N2 $ type mechanism. While transition state variations predicted by the quantum mechanical model is shown to agree in general with the experimental results, those predicted by the potential energy surface model failed to account for the leaving group effect properly.
