In the design guideline about the existing elderly housing, the equipment related to bathroom are the most important in the secure and functional aspect. On the other hand, the present elderly housing is being designed according to foreign design guideline or common housing form instead of reflecting living and physical qualities of the Korean elderly. Therefore, in this study based on the guideline of the existing literature, we made Mockup furnished with the equipments of bathroom and conducted an experiment in finding proper position and height for Korean elderly enough to use the bathroom conveniently and independently. The equipments of bathroom consist of different height wash bowls, toilet stools, grab bars, and a bathtub. As a result, suitable height of wash bowl is 760 mm $\pm{\alpha}$. We can realized that elderly feel comfortable to grab perpendicular bars of toilet stools more than horizontal ones. So it is necessary for elderly to grip perpendicular of grab bars added to prevention slipping and made shape easy to hold. Most of elderly told us that 500 mm of the bathtub setting is suitable. But many other people feel high. So height of the bathtub must be established lower than 500 mm for safety in the bathroom and for convenience.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the actual usefulness of bathrooms and to clarify the preference of bathroom plans by college students in Jeonju City. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires and 315 college students were used for this study. The major results are as follows. The bathroom types were mostly unit bathrooms and were not suited with using bathrooms of college students. The college students usually used unit bathrooms individually for stool and showering. The unit type of bathroom was not comfortable for them and, therefore, most of them were not satisfied with their bathrooms. They wanted a separate space for different facilities such as a bathtub and toilet, a dressing room, and a fixed clothes chest. Generally the college students did not prefer unit bathrooms, but the bathroom plan with separate rooms for the bathroom and toilet, with space for dressing. This study suggests that further studies be conducted on college students in other big, small and medium-sized cities. Also, it is necessary to offer bathroom plans which take the size of houses and bathrooms, and the number of bathrooms into account and to survey housing consumers' satisfaction of those bathroom plans.

The interior designs and architectures are definitely important to the disabled because it could improve their independence considerably. Although the design is meaningless if for each disabled's symptom is not considering, the research on design to support detail symptom of each disabled is insufficient. This paper studies the bathroom in house for the disabled of hemiplegia after a stroke. The bathrooms is important space that cause many unnecessary activities and accidents without carefulness. Study method makes framework through principle of universal design and feature of hemiplegia after a stroke. We visit three places where the disabled live in and used qualitative analysis. After checking the present condition of the bathroom, a request and necessity of the disabled through observation and semi-structured interview. According to the result of this study, the obstruction factors were increased when the disabled try to use both hands or to reach and pick up objects, to move and to assist the severe disabled in the bathroom. Finally this study suggests design guidelines based on principle of universal design and factors for better bathroom design for the disabled.

The purpose of this study is to get a grasp on the current trend of apartment facilities by analyzing the bathroom facilities of the brand apartments, which are currently being sold in the metropolitan area. Twenty eight apartment complexes from top seven brand apartment, ranked by its construction ability in 2007, were selected as the subject of the study. Research was conducted by studying bathroom facilities of each complexes through e-catalogues in their web-site. The results of the analysis are as follows. Functional improvements as well as digital equipments were added to the basic facilities. Also in order to upgrade the quality of bathrooms, various and high-quality facilities and finishing materials were used as well as glass partitions for separation of dry and wet area, sunlight windows and so on. The conclusion reached to the fact that those various bathroom facilities need to be considered in the aspect of providing high quality living environment, not just supplying various bathroom to the future customer.

The purpose of this study is to find the characteristics of bathroom through the latest apartment model house, and to investigate the types of design element in bathroom space, that is equipment material, measurement, and shape. Also, this study compare the changes in bathroom investigated through the theoretical study and understand the general design characteristics of modern bathroom. Design characteristics of bathrooms of 19 apartment model houses that are 30pyong to 60pyong model in the south area of the Han river and new city area, Boon-dang were analyzed based on previous studies. The result of the study is as follows. 1) The most remarkable change of bathroom can be found in equipment. The type of bathroom equipment, materials, forms, size have been changing diversely. 2) In addition, the function of bathroom has been changing. Bathroom is not only sanitary place but also place for rest, health-care, beauty-care, storage, and it is possible to add health improving function. 3) On the other hand, $\ulcorner$washstand ＋ toilet ＋ shower booth$\lrcorner$ type is common for family-bathroom, and separate type of $\ulcorner$washstand ＋ toilet ＋ bathtub ＋ shower booth ＋ Powder room ＋ dress room$\lrcorner$type is most common for master-bathroom.

본 연구는 유니버설디자인의 개념을 활용하여 고령자, 장애인, 일반인 등에 이르기까지 다양한 사용자의 요구 및 적정 환경에 맞춘 유연한 환경을 구성할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다. 이는 대상별 분석에 따른 최적의 크기, 색상 등을 도출함으로써 사용자에게 알맞은 세부적인 모듈별 디자인 플랫폼을 구축함으로 보다 편리한 환경을 구현하고자 연구의 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 유니버설디자인의 이해와 욕실 현황을 살펴보았으며, 다양한 사용자별 분석으로 디자인 전개를 진행하였다. 결과물을 통해 가상환경을 조성하여 일반인과 장애인등의 다양한 사용자들에게 1,2 차에 걸쳐 사용성 평가를 실시하였다. 이에 평균 90점 대 이상의 우수한 평가를 얻었으며 이는, 기존 욕실과 비교하여 차별성을 나타내는 결과로 볼 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 다양한 사용자들에게 새로운 경험을 제공할 수 있는 모듈별 디자인 플랫폼 개발로 주거공간에서 욕실의 패러다임을 변화시키며 보다 안전하고 편안한 가정환경 조성 및 건강한 삶의 질 향상으로 이어지리라 판단한다. 향후 이러한 모듈 시스템들이 욕실 내에서만 머무르지 않으며 사람이 머무를 수 있는 다양한 주거 공간에서도 지속적으로 연구되기를 기대한다.
