The Crystal Structure of an Iondine Sorption Complex of Dehydrated Calcium and Silver Exchanged Zeolite A ($Ag^+$이온과 $Ca^{2+}$이온으로 치환한 제올라이트 A를 탈수한 후 요오드를 흡착한 결정구조)

  • The crystal structure of an iodine sorption complex of vacumm-dehydrated Ag+ and Ca2+ exchanged zeolite A(a=12.174(3)Å) has been determined at 21℃ by single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques in the cubic space group Pm3m. The crystal was prepared by flow method for three days using exchange solution in solution in which mole ratio of AgNO3 and Ca(NO3)2 was 1:150 with total concentration of 0.05 M. The complex was prepared by dehydration at 360℃ and 2×10-6 Torr for 2 days, followed by exposure to about 14.3 Torr of iodine vaporat 80℃ for 24 hours. Full-matrix least-squares refinement converged to the final error indices of R1=0.082, R2=0.068 using 122 reflections for which I > 3σ(I). Two Ag+ ions, 1.1 Ag+ ions, and 4.45 Ca2+ ions per unit cell are located on three different three-fold axes associated with 6-ring oxygens. Two Ag+ ions per unit cell are in the large cavity, 1.399(4)Å from the (111) plane of three oxygens. Another 1.1 Ag+ ions are found at opposite sites. Six iodine molecules are sorbed per unit cell. Each I2 molecule approaches a framework oxide ion axially (O-I=3.43(2)Å, I-I=2.92Å, I-I-O;166.1(3)°), by a charge transfer complex interaction. Two Ag+ ions make a close approach to the iodine molecules (Ag-I ; 2.73(2)Å).

Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction after Radioactive Iodine Therapy for Thyroid Cancer (갑상선암에서 방사성 요오드 치료 후 발생한 코눈물길 폐쇄)

  • Purpose: To investigate the clinical manifestation of nasolacrimal duct obstruction after radioactive iodine therapy for thyroid cancer. Methods: The authors examined 622 patients who were treated with radioactive iodine therapy after the operation for thyroid cancer from January 2009 to December 2011. Fourteen patients (18 eyes) were diagnosed nasolacrimal duct obstruction based on the lacrimal irrigation test, lacrimal probing test and dacryocystography in our oculoplastic clinic. We analyzed the dose of radioactive iodine therapy, number of treatments, clinical manifestation and treatment type by retrospectively reviewing the patients' medical records. Results: The mean radioactive iodine dose ($215.7{\pm}23.1mCi$, p = 0.01) and the mean number of treatments ($1.36{\pm}0.50$, p < 0.001) were significantly greater in 14 patients who had nasolacrimal duct obstruction than in patients who did not. The average onset of tearing symptoms occurred 10.2 months after radioactive iodine therapy. The mean time between correct diagnosis and therapy was 18.4 months. Three patients (3 eyes) had occlusion at the common cannaliculus and 11 patients (15 eyes) had occlusion at the nasolacrimal duct. Ten patients (13 eyes) underwent endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy for complete obstruction and 4 patients (5 eyes) underwent silicone tube intubation for partial obstruction. Conclusions: Nasolacrimal duct obstruction is a rare complication associated with radioactive iodine therapy for thyroid cancer, thus, clinicians should be aware of this complication and refer patients with symptoms of epiphora to the oculoplastic department for specialized evaluation and treatment.

  • The systems of aromatic amines such as aniline, N,N-dimethylaniline and N,N-diethylaniline with iodine or iodine monochloride in carbon tetrachloride have been examined spectrophotometrically. The results indicate the formation of one to one molecular complexes. The equilibrium constants obtained at room temperature for formation of the complexes are as follows: $C_6H_5NH_2{\cdot}I_2\;2.05$, $C_6H_5N(CH_3)_2{\cdot}I_2\;15.2$, $C_6H_5N(C_2H_5)_2{\cdot}I_2\;35.5$, $C_6H_5NH_2{\cdot}ICl\;18.5$, $C_6H_5N(CH_3)_2{\cdot}ICl\;25.6$, and $C_6H_5N(C_2H_5)_2\;42.0$ l $mole^{-1}$.

  • The interactions of iodobenzene with iodine, iodine monobromide, iodine monochloride and chlorine in carbon tetrachloride solution have been investigated by means of ultraviolet spectrophotometric measurements. The results reveal the formation of one to one molecular complexes, $C_6H_5I{\cdot}I_2$, $C_6H_5I{\cdot}IBr$, $C_6H_5I{\cdot}ICl$, and $C_6H_5I{\cdot}Cl_2$, in solution. The equilibrium constants obtained at room temperature (about $21^{\circ}C$) for the formation of these four complexes are 0.23, 0.73, 1.2 and 0.070 l $mole^{-1}$, respectively. Comparison of these results with those reported in the literature on other complexes of similar type indicates that the relative stabilities of these complexes decrease in the following orders: ICl>IBr>$I_2$>$Br_2$>$Cl_2$ $C_6H_5I$>$C_6H_6$>$C_6H_5Br$>$C_6H_5Cl$>$C_6H_5F$.

  • To elucidate the relationship between physical and chemical properties of frying vegetable oils, soybean oil and cottonseed oil were heated in air temperatures from $160^{\circ}C\;to\;220^{\circ}C$ for 60 hours. Acid value, carbonyl value, iodine value, viscosity and content of polymer were remarkably changed as higher heating temperature and/or longer heating time. Correlation coefficient of viscosity to acid value was 0.9843 for soybean oil and 0.9819 for cottonseed oil. In case of viscosity and carbonyl value, viscosity also showed good relationship to carbonyl value as 0.9779 for soybean oil and 0.9797 for cottonseed oil. And correlation coefficient of viscosity to iodine value of soybean oil was 0.9852 and cottonseed oil was 0.9948.

  • Product distribution and consumption in the military is difficult due to unique contracts and supply systems. It is difficult to change suppliers immediately when quality problem is encountered. Due to these special circumstances, the quality of products must be thoroughly controlled. Sesame oil is used to increase the taste and nutrition of food, but it is more expensive than other cooking oils. Oil producers may blend other cooking oils with sesame oil to make higher profits, so it has become important to identify good and bad products. In this study, pure sesame oil and blend oils were compared by analyzing their smell, taste, chemical components, and near infra-red spectra to determine quality differences between them.

  • This article describes a study of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of copper thin films on TiN substrates using (HFAC)Cu(DMB) as a precursor. The surface morphology and conformality of the Cu films as functions of substrate temperature and the presence or absence of iodine have been investigated. The surface roughness was increased significantly along with decrement of the step coverage by increasing the deposition temperature. The highest conformal films with the lowest surface roughness were obtained using the process of copper CVD, where iodine vapor were discretely introduced into the reactor during the growth of copper.
