  • This study sought to measure the absorption of commercially available urinary incontinence panty by applying a method of measuring the maximum saline amount of adult diapers in an international standard. The subject was 15 products from 3 brands on the market, and the SPSS 27.0 program was used for analysis. As a result of measuring the maximum absorption of commercial incontinence panty, it was found that the maximum absorption of product B was the highest and the maximum absorption of product C was the lowest. Even though the product was marked with the same absorption amount, it showed differences in the same product of the same brand, and it also showed differences depending on the brand. The reflux amount of the injected physiological saline and the urinary incontinence panty showed a positive (+) correlation, and as the amount of the injected physiological saline increased, the reflux amount of the urinary incontinence panty increased. It was analyzed that the time when the leakage begins and the amount of leakage have a negative (-) correlation. In future research, it is believed that the development of functional pads that can increase absorption and reduce reflux and leakage should be carried out.

  • The purpose of this study was to help the women with stress urinary incontinence lead more comfortable life, by letting them to do pelvic muscle exercise and to learn by direct experience the effect that urinary incontinence is controlled. The research design was a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 16 middle-aged women(over 38) with stress urinary incontinence. The study was conducted from August 1, to October 11, 1999. Women trained themselves for muscular strength and endurance, every the other day for each exercise for six weeks at home(that means each exercise for more than three days a week) in the pelvic muscle exercise program which was developed by Dougherty et al., and filled out exercise participation card every week. They visited laboratory once a week to get visual feedback, by means of Perineometer, of how the pelvic muscle exercise was going on. Stress Urinary Incontinence Scale that Lee, Young-Sook revised and supplemented Hendrickson's original scale was used for measuring the frequency and situation scores of urinary incontinence, "30 minute pad test" was carried out for measuring the amount of urinary incontinence, and Perineometer was used for measuring maximum vaginal contraction pressure. Percentage, mean, standard deviation and Wilcoxon signed ranks test were used for data analysis by means of SPSS/PC+ WIN 9.0 program. The results were summarized as follows : The hypothesis 1 that after carrying out pelvic muscle exercise program on women with stress urinary incontinence, the weekly degree of urinary incontinence would reduce compared to before the exercise was supported. The hypothesis 1-1 that after carrying out pelvic muscle exercise program on women with stress urinary incontinence, the weekly frequency of urinary incontinence would reduce compared to before the exercise was supported (p=.003). The hypothesis 1-2 that after carrying out pelvic muscle exercise program on women with stress urinary incontinence, the situation scores of urinary incontinence would reduce compared to before the exercise was supported(p=.044). The hypothesis 2 that after carrying out pelvic muscle exercise program on women with stress urinary incontinence, the amount of urinary incontinence would reduce compared to before the exercise was supported(p=.001). The hypothesis 3 that after carrying out pelvic muscle exercise program on women with stress urinary incontinence, the maximum vaginal contraction pressure would increase compared to before the exercise was supported (p=.012). These results suggest that pelvic muscle exercise program has an effect on women with stress urinary incontinence in the degree and amount of urinary incontinence and maximum vaginal contraction pressure. So it is judged that training women with stress urinary incontinence for pelvic muscle exercise is an effective nursing intervention strategy in order to care urinary incontinence.

  • This study aimed to investigate factors affecting frailty by urinary incontinence groups among the vulnerable elderly woman in Korea. In this secondary analysis, data were collected from records for 3,251 elders registered in the Visiting Health Management program of Public Health Centers in 2012. body mass index, waist circumference, timed up & go, depression, self rated helath, walking exercise, flexibility exercise, strengh exercise and frailty were assessed. Data were analyzed using $x^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and stepwise regression to determine the associated factors of frailty by urinary incontinence. Depression, walking exercise, timed up & go and age were found to be factors significantly associated with frailty among the elders with incontinence(F=38.321, p<.001). Age, depression, walking exercise, self rated health and tined up & go were found to be factors associated with frailty in the elders without incontinence(F=265.666 p<.001). The findings show that frailty of elders and associated factors were different by urinary incontinence, and common factors affecting frailty were depression, walking exercise, timed up & go, age. Thus, these factors should be considered in the development of intervention program for care and prevention of frailty and program should be modified according to urinary incontinence.

  • This study attempted to compare the pattern with the absorption layer by analyzing the pattern of commercially available urinary incontinence panty products. Through this, it tried to obtain basic data necessary for the development of functional urinary incontinence panty for active seniors. Twelve commercially available products were decomposed to analyze size and patterns, and appearance and clothing pressure were evaluated through 3D simulation. As a result of comparing the size and pattern of urinary incontinence panty, it was analyzed that the size difference between parts was large even though the product was called the same. Products from the same brand also showed a big difference depending on design and absorption. As a result of the appearance evaluation for the 3D simulation, it was found that there were significant differences between products in all items such as the front, side, and back. Product No. 9 was analyzed to be the best except for the waist fit on the side. In the evaluation of clothing pressure, most of them were marked in red except for products 1, 2, and 8 due to the nature of the panty product. In the future, it is thought that actual wearing experiments and size standardization studies on urinary incontinence pants should be conducted.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to find out the frequency of urinary incontinence among the rural elderly people and its related factors. Methods: Informations have been obtained through interviews from the 464 rural residents of advanced age over 65 years on September 1st through November 30th, 2007, in Chungnam Province. Results: As for the rate of experiencing urinary incontinence, the group with the experience rate of 「every day」 were 9.5% and 「occasionally」 35.5%, with the total of 45.0%. The higher rates of urinary incontinence were in the elderly women(58.5%) than in the elderly men (29.8%), in the more advanced in age, in the higher educated, and in the groups with higher monthly income. Based on life styles, the rate of experiencing urinary incontinence was significantly higher in smoking groups and non-drinking groups. Based on subjective senses of health, it was more highly associated with the groups who reported that they were not healthy, that they concerned themselves about health, that they had physical disability, that they had forgetfulness, and they needed assistance in terms of activity of daily living(ADL) and instrumental activity of daily living(IADL) than their respective counterparts. By the result of multiple logistic regression, sex, age, smoking status, anxiety, physical disability, amnesia, and IADL was indicated the affecting factors to the prevalence of urinary incontinence. Conclusions: The above results reveal that the rate of urinary incontinence was higher in the elderly women than the elderly men, and in more advanced age. Moreover, its rate increases in the groups with undesirable life styles or lower senses of subjective and physical health conditions. It is highly suggested that efforts to manage urinary incontinence of the elderly need to be narrowed to the more advanced, especially those with lower standards of health conditions.

  • Purpose: This prospective study was designed to investigate the prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI), voided volume, post void residual volume (PVRV), daytime frequency and nocturia in women over 40 years. Methods: The sample comprised of 302 women over 40 years. The study lasted from February 2008 to November 2009. Data about daytime frequency and nocturia were gathered from 48 hour bladder diary. Further, a PVRV was assessed through a bladder ultrasonography. Data were analyzed using the t-test, Mann Whitney test, Kruskal Wallis test and multiple regression. Results: Although the prevalence of UI among the women was as high as 70.5%, the perception rate of UI was as low as 10.8%.Single voided volume of women without or with UI was 223 mL or 198 mL (p<.001), respectively; PVRV, 25.8 mL or 23.6 mL (p=.055); daytime frequency, 5.89 or 6.96 (p<.001); nocturia, 0.99 or 1.23 (p=.040). Age (${\beta}$=0.19, p=.001), single voided volume (${\beta}$=-0.16, p=.006), and nocturia (${\beta}$=0.12, p=.034) were associated with UI. Conclusion: The prevalence of UI was found to be 70.5% among the participants. The assessment of single urinary volume and nocturia through a bladder diary lends support to identifying UI for women over 40 years.

  • The rheological properties of dough made with 0% 1 % 2% or 3% Corni fructus flour were investigated Rapid Visco Analyzer (RVA) analysis showed that the initial pasting temperature increased with increasing Corni fructusflour content, while the peak viscosity decreased. The water absorption, stability, development time, elasticity and valorimeter value of the dough, as determined using a farinograph and alveograph, decreased with increasing amounts of Corni fructusflour, while weakness increased. The extensibility, fermented volume and consistency of the dough increased gradually with increasing Corni fructus flour content. These results indicate that the addition of Corni fructus flour affects the rheological properties of bread.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of total body water and it's influencing factors in community elderly. In this descriptive study, data were collected from 135 elderly at senior citizen center, from October 4 2016 to February 28 2017. Surveys using questionnaire and anthropometric measurements for BMI and total body water were done for data collection. The results of the study showed that while most of the subjects of the study showed total body water within the appropriate range, some elderly especially elderly women show a degraded total body water. Total body water showed significant difference according to sex, body mass index, number of chronic illness, number of medication and urinary incontinence levels. Significant influencing factors were BMI(${\beta}=-0.51$, p=<.001), sex(${\beta}=-0.47$, p=<.001) and this regression model explained 51% of the variance in total body water. In the future, attention needs to be paid to the total body water of the elderly in the local community, especially to the elderly women with risk factors.
