This study investigated the psychological effects of using a serious game with young learners in the English classroom compared with those of a dictionary application. A tablet PC-based serious game was created for the training of English phoneme discrimination for Korean 6th graders, and its psychological effects were measured using a paper-based survey and face-to-face interviews. The overall results revealed that the serious game had more positive psychological effects on young learners than the dictionary app. These findings provide supporting empirical evidence for using serious games in English classrooms.

본 논문에서는 웹기반의 TOEIC 문법 문제 자동 생성 시스템을 제안한다. 본 시스템은 웹에서 문서를 가져온 후, 문서의 각 문장이 데이터베이스에 저장된 문제 패턴에 일치하는 지를 검사하여 문제를 생성한다. 본 시스템을 통해서 생성되는 문법 문제를 영어 전문가를 통해서 검중한 결과, 대부분의 문제가 TOEIC 실전 문제로 사용하기에 충분한 것이었다. 우리의 조사에 의하면, TOEIC 문법 문제의 자동 생성에 관한 기존 연구는 거의 발표되고 있지 않다.

세계 해운시장에서 영어를 모국어로 사용하지 않는 해기사의 수가 증가하는 실정이며, 문화 및 언어적 차이를 가진 관제사와 항해사가 영어를 공통 의사소통의 도구로 사용함으로써, 주어진 상황을 가장 정확하고 간결하게 전달하고 이를 상호 이해하는 능력의 필요성이 점차 중요해 지고 있다. IALA에서는 이러한 시대적 흐름에 부응하여, 영어를 모국어로 사용하는 원어민과 영어를 외국어로 사용하는 비원어민이 효과적인 방식으로 의사소통하여, 상호 명확한 이해를 목표로 하는 해상 교신이 이루어 질 수 있도록, 다양한 핵심 관제 커뮤니케이션 전략을 수립하고, 이를 VTS 관제 커뮤니케이션 가이드라인으로 제정하는 것을 논의 중에 있다. 현재 VTS 기술위원회를 중심으로 이루어지는 본 가이드라인의 주요 내용을 중간 전파하고, 이에 대한 아국 관제사들의 향후 대응을 공동 논의하고자 한다.

The purpose of this study was to investigate ways to improve the effect of English-medium instruction (EMI) in Korean universities by comparing EMI lectures in two Korean universities with those in a Japanese university. Some universities run all courses in English while others do so for only part of them. This study comparatively investigated how EMI courses were run by these two groups of universities. For the purpose of this study, in-depth interviews were conducted with EMI instructors and students to find out what merits and problems that such EMI programs had in EFL environment of Korea and Japan. Another important goal was to correct problems and improve the Korean programs. The result showed that the most important issue of EMI programs in Korean universities was students' low English proficiency. It also demonstrated that English for Academic Purposes (EAP) was necessary to overcome this problem. It is a key to the success of MI programs. Hopefully, this study will stimulate continuous discussions on limitations and ways to improve EMI in Korean universities in various aspects.

As the world develops into a global society, more and more people want to speak foreign languages fluently. To speak fluently, you must have sufficient training in speaking, which requires a dialogue partner. Recently, it is expected that the development of voice recognition information technology will enable the development of a system for conducting foreign language speaking training without human beings from the other party. In this study, a test bed system for foreign language speaking training was developed and applied to elementary school classes. Elementary school students were asked to present their English conversation situation and conduct speaking training. Then, satisfaction with the system and potential for continuous utilization were surveyed. The system developed in this study has been identified as helpful for the training of learning to speak a foreign language.

In the past, Korean English language learners focused on knowledge of grammatical structures. Thus Korean trained instructors, who focused on explaining the grammar structures, were seen as being preferable for teaching in EFL (English as a foreign language) classrooms. However, with the focus changed to speaking capability Koreans now desire 'fluent' English more than 'accuracy' seeing if possible (Mottos, 1997). Current study has been concerned about the issue of how non-native learners of English perceive the difference between native teachers (NTs) and non-native teachers (non-NTs) of English in the context of ELT classroom. The study explores the issues and problems the followed and how non-NTs can enhance teaching practice of speaking and listening lessons through multimedia application.

Motivated by the mixed results in the previous studies on the relationship between speech production and perception, the current study aims to investigate the relationship between production and perception in depth through a case study on how Korean EFL university students produce and perceive American English vowels. To this end, 19 Korean students at a university located in the Seoul-metropolitan area participated in the production and perception tests on American English vowels to elucidate the precedence relationship and the correlation between production and perception. Results showed that precedence of neither perception nor production was found in the overall result. However, either precedence of perception or production was found for the vowels [ɛ], [α], [ɔ], [u], which implies that the precedence relationship between production and perception varies depending on individual vowels. As for the correlation between production and perception, no correlation was attested between production and perception, suggesting that production and perception skills are not closely linked for these participants. Given that mastering language requires to coordinate two distinct production and perception skills and that L2 learners' preception and production skills become more closely connected as the learners' L2 experience and proficiency increases, no correlation between production and perception attested by the current EFL students implies that the correlation between production and perception varies during the course of foreign language/L2 acquisition in such a way that production and perception skills become increasingly related. Implications of the findings were further discussed and pedagogical suggestions were provided.

In the case of Korean, the possibility of development is lower than that of English if tagging is done through the word tokenization like English. Although the form of tokenizing the corpus by separating it into morpheme units via KoNLPy is represented as a graph database, full separation of voice files and verification of practicality is required when converting the module from graph database to corpus. In this paper, morphology representation using STT API is shown in Raspberry Pi. The voice file converted to Corpus is analyzed to KoNLPy and tagged. The analyzed results are represented by graph databases and can be divided into tokens divided by morpheme, and it is judged that data mining extraction with specific purpose is possible by determining practicality and degree of separation.

The purpose of this study is to introduce Korean teachers and researchers ESL standards for TESOL students developed by TESOL association in 1997. The standards were designed to be useful for teachers and other educators who want to incorporate them in their educational programs for ESOL students in mainly the USA. These standards are important because they articulate the English language development needs of ESL learners and provide directions to educators on how to fulfill the needs of ESL students. Also. they emphasize the major role of language in the attainment of other content area standards. In this paper the author introduced not only the theoretical backgrounds. construct. meaning of the standards, and the ways of implementation but also their lessons to our Korean situation.

최근 국가적 차원에서 영어교육에 대한 많은 투자가 이루어지고 있으나 기존의 주입식, 암기식 영어 교육은 회화 실력 향상에 큰 도움을 주지 못하였다. 컴퓨터를 이용한 영어교육 또한 많은 관심을 얻고 있으나 실제 의사소통을 위한 회화 학습에 대한 고려는 깊지 않으며, 주어진 흐름의 대본을 따라 단순히 읽고 반복하는 수준의 시스템만 존재하고 있다. 이러한 학습형태는 흥미 유발 동기가 약하여 사용자로 하여금 장기간 꾸준히 학습하게 만들지 못한다는 문제가 있다. 이러한 문제점에 대하여 제2언어 습득 이론에 바탕을 둔 자연어 처리 기반 몰입 환경 영어 교육 시스템을 제안한다. 이는 도메인 확장성이 뛰어난 예제 기반 대화 시스템을 3 차원 가상공간과 결합한 시스템으로 자연스러운 대화를 통한 외국어 회화 연습을 하는 과정에서 학습자의 발화 오류를 분석하고 교육적 피드백을 제공한다. 또한 현실과 비슷한 몰입 환경에서 체험형 기술을 통해 자발적인 학습을 유도하고 집중력, 기억력을 획기적으로 높이고자 한다. 본 논문에서는 영어교육 시스템의 이론적 배경, 예제 기반 대화관리, 시스템 구성요소와 동작에 대하여 중점적으로 기술하였다.
